k1l_@mark #ubuntu chillibite tells in pm he only wanted to promote trisquel with his faked technical support questions10:58
ubottuThe operation succeeded.10:58
ubottucfhowlett_ called the ops in #ubuntu (Penny22, spam porn)13:06
DJonesRemoved, no doubt they'll be klined for pornographic spam shortly13:07
phunyguyOur porn bots are back I see13:07
DJonesYep13:07
phunyguyso the ban was working, just working too well13:07
IdleOnenot it wasn't13:11
IdleOnecheck your logs for the past two weeks13:11
tsimpsonPenny22!~Penny21 < it wouldn't have matched *22!*22@* anyway13:14
IdleOnes/not/no/13:14
tsimpsonor *21!*21@*13:14
tsimpsontricky those spammers, ey13:14
IdleOnea Ban on *!*21@* will help temporarily until they change the ident13:14
PiciThat is riduclously wide.13:16
IdleOneit is13:17
IdleOneso I say we either give up and ignore it or bring back idoru which can and usually klines those bots13:17
k1l_where is the problem with iduro?13:18
k1l_*idoru13:19
tsimpsonit's too sensitive, apparently13:19
IdleOnesometimes it klines the wrong person by mistake apparently13:19
tsimpsonthere was a big to-do about false positives in a large channel like #ubuntu13:19
k1l_too bad freenode doesnt support badwords like other networks do13:19
Priceyk1l_: It's currently in testing on your /msg's.13:20
k1l_i like the idea of not letting that spam be started at all than making action after that spam.13:22
IdleOnePricey: really?13:22
* IdleOne tests13:22
PriceyIdleOne: Sorry, wasn't clear. I intended to be silly and suggest to k1l_ that we were specifically monitoring his /msg's while testing badwords. We're not.13:23
IdleOneoh13:23
IdleOnewell I that case I apologize for the very vulgar /msg I sent you :/13:24
PriceyOh the vulgarity.13:24
tsimpsonI imagine filtering every message that passes through the network would seriously impact performance of the network13:26
PriceyI'm not sure why such a badwords would give better results than what we have. It'd no doubt have the same problems whilst degrading existing performance.13:26
phunyguyIdleOne: Sorry, I hadn't noticed any porn links.  Maybe I just don't pay attention enough, or the ops trigger isn't fired off every time.13:28
IdleOneif you sit in -ops-monitor for a while you will notice some extra things going on that are sometimes actually helpful13:29
phunyguyI can't ever get in that channel, lol13:29
phunyguyI used to be able to13:29
IdleOnetry now13:29
phunyguy#ubuntu-ops-monitor: Cannot join channel (+i) - you must be invited13:29
phunyguyyep, in now.13:30
k1l_Pricey: i saw it in some other network a while ago. i just like the idea behind that (especially for our issue now) but dont know about the technical side of that.13:42
k1l_its just we have very similar sentences spammed by changing ips and nicknames and changing idents.13:42
PriceyI'm not sure why such a badwords would give better results than what we have. It'd no doubt have the same problems whilst degrading existing performance.13:45
phunyguyArghh... why the heck is Android IRC highlighting me in everything that is typed that starts with "phu".... stupid thing.14:39
Piciphuts?14:40
Piciwhat other words start with phu?14:40
phunyguyPhuzzy in #ubuntu14:41
Picithats not at word14:41
Picior a14:41
phunyguyk1l is highlighting that person and my phone is freaking out14:41
phunyguy"DOINK" every few seconds  :)14:41
k1l"it wasnt me"14:42
phunyguyno, it was my stupid client14:43
k1lmaybe a wrong word to highlight?14:43
rwwk1l: A short tl;dr of the technical side of badwords: freenode services, right now, do not read in-channel messages at all, which vastly decreases the amount of processing they do and helps make them performant. Modules like badwords (fantasy is the other main one that's disabled for the same reason) would make it read in-channel messages too, which would pretty much completely break it.15:29
rwwexcept I just woke up and badwords is on the ircd, not the services package, but it's the same thing with different nouns15:30
rwwalso, if your ircd starts paying attention to message contents, it opens the door for all sorts of neferious oper activity, and the less temptation Pricey has the better ;)15:31
PriceyAND with not being intelligent, it wouldn't be any better at identifying stuff as we have now.15:37
k1lwell, it doesnt need to read all messages. it only needs to read the messages with badwords in it </trollmode> :)16:09

Unit193knome: You think a banforward for samuraiRM is in order?  I'm thinking it might be good to talk to him, but don't want to jump the gun.21:39

rww(samuraiRM I mean, not hey_joe)21:40
