[03:31] <fmarier> well, i have it on 14.04 and if i try to burn a 12.04 stick, I just get "installation failed" in a popup with nothing on the console

[03:33] <ibeardslee> unetbootin is another that people use
[03:34] <fmarier> let's see what "dd if=ubuntu.iso of=/dev/sdg count=2 bs=2G" does

[03:42] <mwhudson> (i needed to format the disk like it expected first)

[03:51] <ibeardslee> fmarier: really?  I thought some fudging of boot sectors and things was needed to convert it from the ISO.

[03:51] <fmarier> those ISOs include whatever you need to boot the ISO up
