seb128mterry, hey, do you have any recommendation of workaround to log into unity8 desktop?13:03
seb128mterry, ignore that, works after a reboot (I changed the auth to swipe using u-s-s in an unity7 session)13:03
mterryseb128, aha, good13:04
mterryseb128, the only other way would be a super hacky suggestion of pointing at the mock plugins for authentication, but that would end up mocking more than you wanted13:04
seb128mterry, well, I would have taken a "change that property in some qml"13:05
mterryseb128, note that swipe means your user has no password13:05
seb128but swipe works so at least I can access the session13:05
mterryseb128, ah if we can edit qml then sure  :)  I could find some lines to get rid of it13:05

lullisHi, all. I have a few questions regarding (I think) lightdm customization. Basically, I am working on a system that needs to provide remote authentication. And to do that, the user needs to be able to (1) set up the network connection and (2) be able to also "register" directly on the greeter screen.13:19
=== strycore_ is now known as strycore
lullisI was looking at the current greeters for lightdm, and none offers the possibility of setting up the network. Also by checking the docs, it looks like lightdm offer account/session info, but no integration with network manager.13:22

attente_seb128, hey13:49
seb128attente_, hey13:49
attente_how's it going?13:49
willcookehi attente_13:49
attente_hi willcooke13:49
seb128attente_, good! you?13:49
attente_i'm good :)13:49
attente_seb128, do you have time today to try out the ppa?13:50
seb128attente_, sure can13:51
attente_it's this one here: https://launchpad.net/~fcitx-team/+archive/ubuntu/fcitx-transition13:51
attente_you'll also have to set your framework with 'im-config -n fcitx'13:52
seb128k, so upgrade from the ppa, do the im-config thing ... I guess install fcitx-(something)? then restart session?13:52
seb128should give me an empty im list but I can add some back from ucc?13:53
attente_yeah, you'll need some engines as well like fcitx-sunpinyin13:53
attente_it should hopefully not break any setup you currently have13:53
attente_but then you can go into the region panel and start adding fcitx input sources13:53
seb128attente_, 你好14:05
attente_seb128, 你好 :)14:05
seb128attente_, so, my chinese (pinyin) got off the list, which I guess was expected since it's an ibus one14:06
seb128adding the fcitx one worked, though a bit confusing due to the name which is "sunpinyin"14:06
seb128not "Chinese (pinyin)", so if you search for "Chin" you don't get it listed14:07
seb128I've 2 indicators as well14:07
seb128but otherwise things seem to work14:07
attente_seb128, we're still transitioning for the indicators14:07
seb128k14:07
attente_ideally once we can get the correct changes for the fcitx one, we can hide i-keyboard in the session14:07
seb128right14:08
attente_seb128, the ppa uses the fcitx change that i talked about in the email, using the one from archive makes it easy for gsettings and fcitx to fall out of sync14:08
seb128well, otherwise things seem to work, I can cycle using keyboard and type chinese14:08
seb128k14:09
attente_cool, thanks for trying it seb128!14:10
seb128attente_, yw!14:10
attente_seb128, can we start by merging i-keyboard and u-s-d changes in? it shouldn't affect users while they're using ibus14:12
seb128attente_, yes14:12
seb128let me look at those reviews now14:12
willcookeseb128, attente_ - I was speaking to stephaneverdy yesterday about Pinyin support in the dash.  So as I understand it, it doesnt work atm and we would need the "database" to searchable in Pinyin as well as native Chinese character set. e.g. you type in the first, say, 2 characters in Pinyin and get results.  I /think/ this doesnt work atm, presumably because we'd need everything translated in to Pinyin?14:13
attente_so like typing 'nihao' would also match '你好'?14:14
willcookeyeah, that's what I think they're getting at14:14
seb128willcooke, isn't "pinyin" an input method? e.g a way to get chinese glyphs from typing azerty text?14:14
seb128right, what attente_ said14:14
=== m_conley_away is now known as m_conley
attente_would that be a libcolumbus thing?14:15
seb128that would be something for the Unity team14:15
seb128not sure, is libcolumbus used in the dash?14:15
attente_or a desktop file indexing thing?14:15
willcookeseb128, well - that's what I thought, but from a bit of reading Pinyin is kinda like another language - like the equivalent roman "word" for a Chinese phrase14:15
seb128or only the hud?14:15
qenghoseb128: I'm closer on the chromium x86/U crashes. Newer release didn't fix it.14:16
seb128qengho, k, do you have any workaround meanwhile?14:16
willcookeseb128, attente_ I'll tidy up the requirements and get back to you14:17
qenghoseb128: Yes! Don't have x86.14:17
seb128willcooke, thanks, but as said, it seems like an unity feature, so for bregma's team rather than ours14:17
qenghoHa ha14:17
willcookeseb128, ack14:17
willcookeseb128, and tbh, that's probably all I need to know for now14:17
seb128willcooke, we handle input methods/configuring those and using them, but the feature there is word matching in the unity dash14:17
willcookebregma, I'll get more infos and we can chat14:17
seb128k14:18
bregmawillcooke, is this the Unity 8 dash or the Unity 7 Dash?14:18
willcookebregma, U7 I reckon.  Sounds like a /lot/ of work14:18
willcookewell, both actually14:19
seb128bregma, speaking of the topic, we are looking at making fcitx default for chinese in Ubuntu, do you know what's the status of the dash with fcitx?14:19
bregmafar as I know, there is an fcitx IM for ibus, it should just work, but I'll ask bschaefer when he gets in14:21
bregmawillcooke, is there any idea what the matter with the existing pinyin IM might be?14:22
willcookebregma, I think the IM works, but that we don't index the content in the right way(?) so that you don't get results if you search in pinyin14:23
willcookebregma, I need to speak to Stephane a bit more are really understand the requirement/problem.14:23
bregmaoh, so nothing to do with the IM, it's the search engine that is lacking proper l10n14:23
willcookeah, actually, JackYu probably could have told us... he might be back14:23
attente_i think seb128 is talking about the candidate window not being placed in the proper position14:23
willcookebregma, ah - yes that sounds more likely14:24
bregmaattente_, OK, I believe that is a known problem, bschaefer will have more info14:24
seb128bregma, attente_, yeah, apparently there is an issue than the dash supports xim only, which means the "candidate" ui doesn't move with the cursor if you use fcitx, happyaron said brandon had a branch to improve things but that never landed14:25
=== cyphermox__ is now known as cyphermox
willcookebe afraid.  I'm cloning stuff from Git and compiling from source.  Expect questions seb128 :D14:41
seb128lol14:41
lullisSorry seb128, had to leave mid-explanation here. My question is: would it be possible to take an existing greeter and customize it to have things like a network applet?14:41
seb128lullis, unity-greeter has nm-applet14:41
seb128but "yes", you can also change a greeter or write your own one14:42
lullisOk, I didn't get to find the nm-applet in the unity greeter.14:42
lullisNext, for the harder part. Would it possible to add a custom applet just by configuration? In my case, I need to have some sort of "register user" applet.14:43
seb128not sure if the unity-greeter supports that14:44
seb128robert_ancell or mterry would be better persons to ask about that one14:44
LaneyHow did the remote desktop thingy work?14:45
LaneyThat added a custom entry to the greeter14:45
mterrylullis, yes...  there's a gsettings key for which indicators to load in the greeter14:45
mterrylullis, you have to set that key for the lightdm user14:46
lullisAh, that is awesome. So if I understand you, I just need to take a look at my existing code and make an indicator applet?14:47
seb128Laney, I seemed to remember that as well, which is why I mentioned mterry :-)14:48
seb128mterry, thanks14:49
mterrylullis, yeah, just make an indicator and set the gsettings value to include your new indicator14:50
lullisAnd this is exclusive to unity-greeter?14:51
seb128kenvandine, hey14:57
