wxlhey folks. i don't know if i'm in the right place but i'm trying to get some help getting my ubuntu.com email working in gmail. any ides?23:14
popeywxl: heya23:18
popeywxl: your @ubuntu account just forwards to whatever is set as your default email address in launchpad23:19
wxlpopey: incoming's not the issue. that works fine. my issue is with outgoing. gmail seems to want smtp settings (i guess you can't send through google like you used to be able to)23:19
popeywxl: you can configure gmail to send "as" your ubuntu.com account easily enough in gmail -> settings -> accounts -> send mail as -> "Add another email address that you own"23:19
popeyno, you dont want that option, you want the above23:20
wxlpopey: and then you put in your email and it asks for smtp settings, autofilling smtp.ubuntu.com23:20
popeynope23:21
wxlwell it does for me XD23:21
wxli'm looking at it now, filling in email address as wxl@ubuntu.com and leaving treat as an aliased checked, then hitting next step23:22
popeyyou sure you're in the right place?23:22
popeyhttps://imgur.com/15goreR23:22
wxland i get Configure your mail to be sent through ubuntu.com SMTP servers23:22
wxlyep i'm there, but hitting next step gives me the above23:23
popeyhm23:23
popeythats different23:23
wxlyeah i've done this befor3e nad never had that issue23:24
wxlif i wanted to set smtp that wasn't google, i had to do it on my own23:24
popeyhow odd.23:24
wxli was hoping to find SOMEONE who uses their gmail to do this :)23:25
popeyi do23:25
popeybut I became a member years ago, and I suspect gmail have changed things since then23:25
popeyhttps://support.google.com/mail/answer/22370?hl=en23:26
popeyimplies you can add smtp.gmail.com ?23:26
popey"Or, you can use Gmail's outbound servers with a different "from" address. If you've already configured the alternate address, your message will be sent from:otheraddress@domain.com, sender:username@gmail.com, regardless of which custom from configuration you chose."23:26
wxlok just gotta figure out the settings :)23:27
popeythey're well publicsised23:27
popeysmtp.gmail.com, TLS23:27
wxlwell it was some sort of issue with my plugins i guess23:40
wxlthat and gmail trying to rid my account of suspicious signins :)23:41
