justgreghey all, I can't get apt-get or the GUI to upgrade my low latency kernel. I get errors about space in /boot. I emptied my trash and ran apt-get clean already. What's next?04:48
holsteinjustgreg: well, personally, i dont have my production machine online, so, i would just use it without upgrading the kernel, but, what is the deal? are you on btrfs?04:49
holsteinjustgreg: otherwise, http://askubuntu.com/questions/142926/cant-upgrade-due-to-low-disk-space-on-boot looks like what i would do, *if* i indeed have a bunch of kernels installed04:50
justgregholstein, ext4, I think.04:50
holsteinjustgreg: you think?04:50
holsteinjustgreg: anyways.. i would literally just try "sudo apt-get autoremove"04:50
holstein^ that should hurt anything, regarless of what you dont know about your system04:50
justgregI've already done that, and I only have the one kernel installed.04:51
holsteinjustgreg: then, i would be testing my hardware, and seeing if i have something failing04:51
holsteinjustgreg: i would actuallly check /boot and see what is there04:51
holsteinjustgreg: i would try shaing the *exact* error..04:52
holsteinsharing*04:52
justgregholstein, what am I looking for there, and remind me how to get the GUI to prompt me for upgrades?04:53
justgreg*in /boot, I have it open now.04:53
holsteinjustgreg: it literally doesnt matter, gui or no04:53
holsteinjustgreg: i would do this..04:53
holsteinsudo apt-get autoremove04:53
holsteinthen, i would reboot.. then, run "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" and share any errors04:54

justgregdone. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove 3 not upgraded04:54
justgregk, brb04:54
holsteinjustgreg: what is "done" ?04:54
holsteinjustgreg: ok..04:54
justgregholstein, no error messages05:02
holsteinjustgreg: so, you are upgraded, then?05:02
justgregall except those packages around the kernel.05:03
holsteinjustgreg: not sure what that means05:03
holsteinjustgreg: what are the errors when running "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade05:03
justgregNo errors, just: The following packages have been kept back: linux-headers-lowlatency linux-image-lowlatency linux-lowlatency05:04
holsteinjustgreg: i know what i would do05:04
justgregholstein, nvm, dist-upgrade seems to be doing it.05:04
holsteinjustgreg: are you running "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" ?05:04
justgregI guess it didn't run when it was && w/ update a minute ago.05:05
justgregAre kernel upgrades not considered part of LTS?05:06
justgregor is that at all related?05:06
holsteinjustgreg: the lts's are frozen.. the kernel upgrades are patches, basically.. unless something gets backported05:07
holsteinall the releases are frozen like that, actually05:07
holsteinnot rolling releases05:07
justgregSo why do I keep getting told about these upgrades?05:09
justgreg*these = kernel upgrades05:09
holsteinjustgreg: told?05:09
justgregThey show up in my weekly GUI software updater prompts.05:09
holsteinjustgreg: if you ask to upgrade, you get upgrades.. as i said, you get patches05:09
holsteinif there are security patches to the lts kernel, you get them05:09
justgregI'm just not getting the disconnect where I have to run a separate command to get them to run.05:10
holsteinjustgreg: you dont05:10
holsteinjustgreg: or, i dont..05:10
justgreg:p right. That's why I came here. I never had, either.05:10
holsteinjustgreg: not sure whats up.. but, we just made your system upgrade, it seems.. if you have issues, i would try what i suggested "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" which doesnt upgrade the distro05:11
justgregWell, it's looking fixed. I have an astoundingly slow connection so I won't know for sure for another couple minutes.05:12
justgregty05:12
holsteinjustgreg: sure.. anymite05:12
