[14:38] I'm trying to enable audio monitoring ( for karaoke purposes ) so that the mic on the external sound card comes outta the same speakers as the karaoke track [14:38] but the settings don't seem to be applied [14:41] Does anyone meet problem that the plasma desktop doesnt show after login? [14:42] I had to enter console and restart kdm and login again to load desktop correctly [14:43] I found a strange thing that kdm loads the graphic desktop on screen #8 first time and failed. [14:44] when I restart kdm it loads the graphic desktop on screen #7, then everything goes back to normal [14:45] Does the problem have some bearing on this? [14:45] I am using kubuntu 14.04 [14:46] I upgraded from previous version [14:46] any hints? [15:02] jubo2: How did you set it up? [15:03] xieyi: kdm? [15:04] * shadeslayer thinks the only fully tested config is lightdm [15:04] yeah I use kdm [15:04] I also tried lightdm [15:05] the same problem occured [15:05] When the plasma desktop is not load correctly [15:05] i entered the console and found no plasma-desktop process running [15:06] I launched it manually and got error that [15:06] QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave. Anyhow do you have paprefs installed? [15:34] I do not knows what is paprefs but hold on, I'll check [15:34] * jubo2 boots the machine to Kubutu14 [15:35] got this netbook to irc [15:37] lordievader: so I 'sudo apt install paprefs' or wut ? [15:39] jubo2: Yes. [15:41] lordievader: done. then what ? [15:43] in KDE Mixer it still says tab "capture devices 2" should be on but there is no apparent setting to link captured signal to the main audio output [15:43] jubo2: alt + f2 -> paprefs -> Multicast/RTP -> Check both receiver and sender. Select mic under sender and tick the loop back audio. [15:43] jubo2: Restart pulse and open pavucontrol. [15:44] lordievader: how do I restart pulse ? [15:45] jubo2: Open a terminal: pulseaudio -k&&pulseaudio --start [15:49] lordievader: no sound from mic, plus all the other sound sources got knocked out too.. [15:49] jubo2: Is pulse running? (ps aux|grep pulse) [15:50] do you have an autostart file starting plasma desktop at ~/.kde/Autostart? [15:50] lordievader: there are 2 pulseaudios running [15:51] just want to make sure I didnt remove something important by chance [15:51] jubo2: 2? Is one grep? [15:51] no.. that's the grep [15:51] jubo2: So there is one instance running? [15:52] no, there are 2 instances running [15:52] I reboot that machine. Maybe that fixes it.. [15:52] could someone have a look at ~/.kde/Autostart? thx === casa is now known as BrUxO_dO_mAL [15:54] also: baloney and machine-peeled garlic cloves in herb oil [15:54] xieyi: Mine is empty except for a custom script. [15:58] jubo2: Open pavucontrol, in my test it only worked when pavucontrol was open. [15:59] lordievader: installing that now [16:02] doeesn't work [16:02] Should I tick something and what was that RTP Multicast installation about ? [16:03] No idea, but it did the trick here though. [16:03] Do I need to multicast if I want signal-in connected to signal-out [16:03] jubo2: Perhaps you need to tick the simultanous output too, last tab in paprefs. [16:11] lordievader: and restart pulseaudio ? [16:11] jubo2: Yes. Oeh, but before you do. How many instances of Pulse are running now? [16:13] restarting pulseaudio I heard something like static charge but the audio still stays off.. reboot tiem ? [16:14] got the machine to my left on a blazing fast SSD disk [16:14] Kubuntu14 boots in 9 seconds from GRUB to graphical login screen [16:14] now I hear noise in the speakers [16:15] that's a very promising sign.. now logging in [16:18] now I can hear the system sounds but like youtube doesn't sound at all [16:18] * jubo2 hopes that that RTP multicast setting he does not exactly know how to undo don't do something nasty [16:19] no sound [16:20] and this RTP thing that I don't understand know what it is [16:21] I do not maybe knows to uncheck every box I should just to get system to the way it was before I started trying to get the monitoring working [16:22] so far I've installed a client-server communications härdel that I don't know what it is is doing if it is doing something [16:23] and broken mah sound setup so that I can't listen to any sounds from youtube [16:25] jubo2: Hmm I thought it was worth a shot. Any how you can simply revert all the changes. [16:26] I managed to get the audio on.. [16:26] It staarted when I started papscontrol [16:33] lordievader: now in 'pavucontrol' I can see in the "Input Devices" the bar moves to noises on my SM58 just like it should but cannot get the connection to bring it to audio monitor [16:34] I need some beer and ice cream now so I'ma hop over to the superette [16:36] Hi, since the last trusty updates my dolphin just create zombies when it tries do do standars things like show file info in popup, show file info in info panel etc. i'm using kde sc 4.14, any hint please ?
