Wlsonjl3is there a way i can use http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/rank-my-computer on xubuntu?00:48
Wlsonjl3says i need Java00:48
DoverMoWlsonjl3: you can install icedtea-7-plugin, which is java for the browser and pulls in openjdk 7 jre00:50
DoverMoWlsonjl3: you can also attempt to use the proprietary java00:50
Wlsonjl3proprietary java?00:51
DoverMoWlsonjl3: the inventor of java copyrighted the language and it basically belongs to oracle00:52
DoverMoWlsonjl3: which is why we have openjdk00:52

sheap_so if I have lightdm --session and gdm-session running at the same time, will that cuase problems? When I try to logout from the system tray it hangs for a really long time, and when I logout from the applications menu it seems to execute a different command (which works sometimes and sometimes not)02:44
sheap_still here :P02:46
DoverMoO:02:48
DoverMosheap_: why are you running gdm02:48
sheap_DoverMo: er woops, I mean xfce4-session02:49
DoverMosheap_: no02:49
sheap_DoverMo: any idea what it could be?02:50
DoverMosheap_: I was hoping you had some ideas O:02:50
sheap_haha dang. Is there a way to see which commands are being called/errors?02:51
sheap_or is that just syslog02:51
DoverMosheap_: did you change anything?02:51
sheap_DoverMo: nope, stock install02:52
DoverMosheap_: do you have vt-d enabled?02:52
sheap_DoverMo: that's a good question, why would that matter?02:53
DoverMocuz it can cause lag02:53
sheap_it lags the logout?02:53
sheap_even if xubuntu is installed on the bare metal /not a vm02:53
DoverMosheap_: what processor?/02:54
sheap_DoverMo: i702:54
DoverMosheap_: do you think vt-d is enabled?02:54
sheap_most likely, but there's a chance it's not. I'll have to check when i ge tback home02:55
DoverMosheap_: that's my best guess. what gpu drivers using?02:57
DoverMosheap_: and maybe, did you change any fstab options?02:57
sheap_DoverMo: nope nothing changed, nvidia drivers (331.38 I believe)02:58
sheap_why would fstab affect logout?02:58
DoverMofstab options can affect speed in huge ways02:59
DoverMobut since you didn't change it, it's not a cocern02:59
sheap_DoverMo: okay, I'll doublecheck soon02:59

LeMikehello. when I lock xfce and unlock again, the keyboard only works again after clicking in a different window. does someone else have this problem or know a fix? I searched the web and found nothing14:54
brainwashLeMike: you could replace light-locker with xscreensaver (or any other screen locker)15:00
brainwashLeMike: this does not seem to be a known issue, but there are various problems which are caused by light-locker as a result of vt switching15:07
brainwashhttp://xubuntu.org/news/screen-locking-in-xubuntu-14-04/15:08
LeMikei used xflock4 but try light-locker now because xscreensaver didn't react after my keyb shortcut brainwash15:08
brainwashxflock4 is a simple script, it checks a list of screen locking apps and tries to launch the first one it finds15:09

alan_oI'm going partially mad with thunderbird.  I can't seem to manage to make it not take up almost 2 CPUs and pound the network.18:11
alan_oand I also can't click https links. ugh18:11
alan_o14.10 bets18:11
alan_obeta18:11
TravisThat's why I am sticking with the LTS.18:12
alan_oyeah, but if nobody tests the beta, the release won't be of quality.18:13
Unit193alan_o: Indeed, thanks for testing.  Do you run package tests?  I can't say for tbirdy myself as I don't use it.18:14
alan_oI've about had it with thunderbird anyway. 12 years and the text rendering still has bugs, the network link is fragile (doesn't handle crappy networks and connect/disconnect), etc.18:14
GridCubealan_o, :) if you are testing the beta please remember to fill the report at iso.qa18:14
alan_oUnit193: Not sure what you mean by package tests.18:15
borw3Hmm, How can I download a file through axel if it's original link is a redirection.18:15
alan_oGridCube: yeah, I need to get some more information about the problem.18:16
alan_oI think it's indexing, but I have that turned off.18:16
alan_oand I have sync turned off.18:16
priuonhello. How can the reuse of xapplications be configured? (example opening a text file can use an opened texteditor with new tab on the workspace globally and even pull the window to current space or switch to the space of the app...)18:16
Unit193borw3: Depends, one way is if you use firefox, start downloading in that then copy the link from the download window.  sf.net links you just trim the '/download' to download it directly.18:19
GridCube!info wmctrl | priuon18:19

alan_oAlso, I had to manually turn on arrow buttons for scroll bars. I'm sure people could argue about whether we should have those, but scrolling though a lot of email is near impossible without them if you don't have a scroll wheel.18:21
priuonGridCube the description does not describe wmctrl to do configuration...18:21
GridCubehttp://linux.die.net/man/1/wmctrl18:21
borw3Unit193: Thanks18:23
priuonGridCube: the manpage does not indicate wmctrl to be able to do the job18:28
GridCubewell, its the only tool i know that allows you to manage applications, move them and perform actions over them in a graphical stance18:31
priuonoh. it seems to be a lot of fun to have it...18:31
GridCubetheres a different tool that emulates mouse actions called wodotool but i don't think its on the ubuntu repositories18:31
priuonGridCube: I still need to be able to configure the reusing policys. Is there maybe some *.conf in etc ?18:32

GridCubepriuon, sorry i do not know18:33
GridCubecan you explain better what you need priuon ?18:33
priuongedit and other apps that have tabbing for multiple files will have a new tab in an open window for files I open in thunar18:36
priuonit only uses instances on the same workspace. I remember it pulling instances from other workspaces but this behavior disappeared somehow.18:37
Unit193priuon: Window Manager Tweaks => Focus18:40
priuonUnit193: I missed that ... the reuse does not appear there though18:46
priuonmight dconf be able to do the configuration? someone told me to use it before.19:21

priuonhow about lubuntu. Are the packages {lubuntu, xubuntu, ubuntu, kubuntu}  meant to be installed on a single linux install?20:17
brainwashyes and no20:19
brainwashyou can do that, but you might encounter various problems20:20
priuonI'd like to try the other 3 DEs20:20
priuonfull blown installation seems a bit much effort though20:21
Unit193You can also just install the DEs.20:21
priuonUnit193 thats what I asked. I imagine it beeing errorprone.20:22
drcpriuon:  Or you could just get a usb stick, install the livecd/DVD with persistence enabled and try that.20:24
Unit193Mhmm, that works well too.20:24
priuonI'll try installing icewm for once... I had xubuntu 12.04 running alongside some other wms. Installing the buntu DEs is new for me though20:24
priuonI have some cd and dvd blanks I would use for it. But I don't see any use in having multiple linux installs running in such a manner20:26
priuonit would suffice having seen the thing like that I guess...20:27
priuondrc: i figured i just use the spare usbstick i am carrying around now and then... how is the live stick best set-up?20:32
drcpriuon: Depends on how big it is.20:33
priuondrc:8gig20:34
drcWell, if you're just going to use it just to sample the *buntu's, I'd make a 4 gig partition with gparted and use something like unetbootin to burn the iso to that partition.  Make sure to enable the persistence option so it will save your changes. You could use the whole stick if you want (and make the perseistence really big :)20:36
borw3Guys, why is there no ffprobe in xubuntu 14.04?20:38
drcI don't think (but don't know) you can make multiple partitions and burn the iso from different *buntu to the different partitions and make them all bootable.20:38
Unit193borw3: Try avprobe.20:40
Unit193It comes in libav-tools.20:40
priuonoh btw the Networkmonitor panelitem won't monitor my eth0 .... any ideas what's wrong there?20:41

xanguaThen again, depends of the apps you use21:04

drcpriuon: 1) no idea, never saw that, 2) it's been a while, maybe they've discontinued that option.21:29
