[05:35] hi melwik welcome to ubuntu-za [05:35] morning all [06:52] ai! major wind blowing treees against power lines [07:41] hey uncle Kilos , was a good last ten minutes in yesterdays match hey?!! [07:41] wonderful [07:42] very exciting [07:42] and for once we win yay [07:43] they tried for a bonus points and we almost lost, then they tried to win and we got a bonus point >.< [07:43] lol [07:43] I am sure their is a life lesson in there somewhere :) [07:43] yip priorities [07:49] how are you uncle Kilos ? All well in SA? Sure the weather must be much better [07:50] yeah ty nlsthzn im much happier now that its warmer, hows things by you? [07:50] fine thanks , cooling down slowly. [07:50] lol [07:51] are you still playing some games? I see I have many doubles with the humble bundles I have purchased if you are interested in anything... [07:51] this is quite interesting [07:51] http://mybroadband.co.za/news/security/110636-bash-bug-shock-what-should-you-do.html [07:53] i havent lately. been getting a server going here and gertting it to share 3g, also been buying a 1TB drive which the couriers used every excuse for not delivering until my supplier told them to take it back to them and they delivered it to me personally [07:54] then a day and night of trying to install ubuntu on it and eventually win7 made me dig up a seagate seatools cd and find it has bad sectors in critical areas [07:55] so tomorrow back to skype for the supplier [07:55] they must love me and murphy [07:55] hehe [07:56] murphies law, as dit kan breek, sal dit [07:56] yup [07:56] technology, a blessing or a curse [07:57] haha but disappointing with that kind of hassle on a brandy new drive [07:57] last resort was to check the drive [07:58] maybe it was mishandled in transit somewhere [08:00] defects in new stuff is very common sadly [08:00] eish [08:00] and it typically happens when resolving the issue is difficult [08:01] murphy and all ;) [08:01] yip but now ive learned, if any hassles with an install check the drive first [08:02] im so used to old drives and their probs i didnt even think of checking on a new one [08:04] luckily in my learning process i discovered that seatools for dos program must be years back now [08:04] it checks the drive thoroughly and gives an error code if there is a prob [08:07] well at least some learning happened :) [08:10] yeah === StonedAlchemist_ is now known as StonedAlchemist [10:52] good afternoon [10:52] Maaz: coffee on [10:52] * Maaz flips the salt-timer [10:52] hi charl [10:52] hallo Kilos [10:53] how are you doing this fine day [10:53] good ty and you? [10:53] i'm doing great [10:53] im just looking at my facebook stuffs [10:53] very seldom go there but got a bit bored [10:54] just ate a pizza at the vapiano and am now drinking coffee at douwe egberts across rotterdam central station [10:54] ah i refuse to use facebook out of fundamental concerns [10:54] but a lot of my friends and family use it [10:54] fundamental concerns? [10:55] centralisation of personal information and communication on a single service provider [10:55] tools like facebook are not suitable for general use on the internet due to its centralised architecture [10:55] same goes for whatsapp, twitter, linkedin etc [10:56] Coffee's ready for charl! [10:56] ah [10:56] Maaz: danke [10:56] Bitteschön [10:58] oh charl i ran seatools dos thingie on the drive and it has bad blocks in critical areas [10:58] is that the new drive you bought ? [10:58] yip [10:58] whaaaaat, that's horrible [10:58] return it immediately [10:59] thats why i couldnt install on it [10:59] yeah no wonder [10:59] yip skyping the rep tomorrow [10:59] it sounds like a manufacturing problem, or maybe it got damaged in transit but i thought that wasn't possible anymore [10:59] don't they do any testing before they ship new drives [11:00] nope they arrive and go into their storeroom and qwait for orders [11:00] from my time in south africa i got the impression many of these companies are selling throw-out products [11:00] because i had that same experience at mecer, rectron [11:00] in NL i have never bought faulty hardware, ever [11:01] but they had no probs replacing a dvd writer i bought from them so i think all will be ok [11:01] it *can* happen but it's extremely rare [11:01] i think there's a problem in the industry with quality assurance [11:01] must be [11:01] it happened once too many for me to think it is purely coincidental [11:02] next one ill run seatools to check [11:02] yeah you must [11:02] can't trust these people by the looks of it [11:02] actually a nice tool that [11:02] do that first before even trying to install anything on it [11:02] yip will do [11:03] i should actually run smartctl on this hard drive some time again [11:03] even gives you a seagate ref number for warranty issues [11:03] there weren't any problems last time but you never know [11:03] nice ! [11:03] but it's time for me to buy a new laptop in any case, i think [11:03] i've been looking at the various thinkpad options, there are some really nice ones right now [11:04] some light weight laptops for very good battery life [11:04] only problem is they all come standard with hdmi now and my external screen is still an older vga [11:04] i dont like those things [11:04] so i will need a hdmi-to-vga connector [11:04] *converter [11:04] im a desktop person [11:04] i travel around quite a bit (like i'm doing right now) and it's nice to take my laptop with and use free wifi :P [11:05] i also take my laptop with me to work every day [11:05] yes they have advantages [11:05] but yeah it depends on your need at the end of the day [11:05] laptops aren't very flexible [11:05] i used to be a desktop person myself before i started traveling and realised it is just a necessity [11:06] yip when travelling you cant beat a lappy [11:06] i am also looking for a cheap-ish home server right now [11:06] that's why i'm looking at all the various options for single-board computers [11:07] i have an cable modem standing at home that's doing practically nothing most of the day [11:07] want to just host my own stuff at home instead of making use of external providers [11:08] my only problem is that most dynamic ip address ranges have been blacklisted for sending spam due to various malware infections on home computers [11:08] ya ive got a pc here that my server but when i get new stuff it has to stand one side while in work here and stay online with old p4 [11:08] so i can't really use it as a mail server unless i get a static ip address routed through or i use a mail proxy [11:08] but other stuff can be hosted without any problems [11:09] ok i'm off again, have to catch the tram [11:09] ciao [11:09] ok [12:20] sigh [12:31] nou wat's nou weer verkeerd? [13:43] lol ek sal die agent more oggend op skype kry en hoor [14:55] bushtech_: you want to gas them?! you should join the nazis [14:56] not very politically correct thing to say these days [14:56] lol [14:56] dont you understand afrikaans charl [14:56] gee hulle gas is give them gears or give them hell [14:57] ah [14:57] i thought you wanted to gas them to death [14:58] no man [14:58] travel tip, if you come to europe, don't use that expression :P [14:58] ok lol [14:58] gassing here has a very negative connotation [14:58] they used to gas the jews in poland [14:58] it is also pronounced same as in ag man [14:59] not a gutteral g [14:59] in dutch we that's the way we would say it too [14:59] like a silence growl [14:59] "je moet ze gas geven" [14:59] silent [14:59] ah [15:00] but yeah it isn't something you want to say :P [15:00] after ww2 it kind-of got a really bad connotation [15:00] in europe maybe not here. its the taal [15:00] lol [15:01] the germans developed deadly mustard gas [15:01] that stuff wasn't good [15:01] ya warfare sucks [15:01] yeah [15:02] even worse things are used today and recent wars [15:02] yeah all these smart bombs [15:02] bombs are never smart, only dumb [15:02] good way of lowering the population though [15:03] yeah especially in a desert where not much lives in any case [15:03] lol [15:03] go kill the little that still breathes [15:03] war is stupid but thats how govts revive the economy [15:05] yeah that's what they say, although i'm not convinced it's really true [15:05] it revives part of the economy but it kills off another part [15:05] ya but after the war there is always progress in leaps and bounds [15:06] wasn't the case in the NL, after ww2 the country hit a major economic downturn [15:06] germany was left divided [15:06] took a long time to build back up what was lost [15:06] the port city of rotterdam i just visited was almost completely destroyed [15:06] but look at how they progressed [15:06] but after many years things do eventually recover [15:07] yeah well you cant rebuild in a couple of years [15:07] i dunno, i guess there are many different ways of looking at it [15:07] stupid it is [15:07] but thats hguman nature hey [15:07] human [15:08] look at the uk and the usa, they are both left heavily indebted after these wars [15:08] wars cost a LOT of money [15:08] there has never been peace, peeps always want what the neighbour has [15:08] government becomes so much in debt they can never pay the money back [15:08] yeah it's simple human greed and the other side is frear [15:08] *fear [15:08] it's always "those people" [15:08] yes but half the time there was no reason for the war [15:09] well there rarely is any real reason for war [15:09] like old sadam with supposed weapons of mass destruction they still havent found [15:10] but they spent mega bucks getting rid of him [15:11] and the uk i dont understand, theyve lost all their colonies but still shove nose in all over [15:13] except in the EU that they rather stay out of entirely [15:13] now i want my new drive man, i got kubuntu 64bit last night for it [15:13] just because that's the only place where they can't call the shots [15:14] and when scotland wanted out they bullied them [15:14] yip they still got the attitude that they ruke the world [15:14] rule [15:14] england wants to be in everywhere but only where they can be the big boss [15:14] they can't stand being outclassed [15:14] yip and make money [15:15] that attitude has been going on for hundreds of years [15:15] everything is about money [15:15] back in the dutch golden age they used to block our trade routes [15:15] just because they couldn't stand us outclassing them in every way [15:15] they wanted control over all the trade route4s [15:15] we never wanted war with them, they just started bullying us [15:16] same with boer wars [15:16] nah those island natives... then i rather side with germany [15:16] at least the germans are progressive, smart and they work hard [15:16] same in canada with the french [15:16] sure they have their mistakes but at least they have culture [15:17] a former colleague of mine was canadian from ukrainian decent [15:17] she told me about how the english used to treat the slavs as untermenschen there in canada [15:17] i admire the nation they came from total destruction to being a world leader in many ways [15:17] and then later they had a lot to say about the germans [15:18] the secret is , dont lose [15:18] yeah :D [15:18] winners always write the history books [15:18] exactly isn't that true [15:18] yup [15:18] the ww2 history is mostly told very one-sidedly [15:18] yip [15:18] never did they say a word about how german u-boats saved many of the survivors from the ships they destroyed [15:18] no it's always "those evil germans" [15:19] politics [15:19] and that there were more than 40 assassination attempts on hitler, mostly by germans [15:19] even his own inner circle [15:19] the lengths to which they went to plot to kill hitler was amazing in many ways [15:19] the one guy even built a cutting edge time bomb which was years ahead of its time [15:20] pun not intended :D [15:20] they are a brilliant nation and not lazy [15:20] yeah i wish the dutch had the work ethic of the germans [15:20] i think people here got lazy after too many years of wealth [15:21] oh well us little guys can just watch [15:21] :D [15:21] yeah ... [15:23] haha have you heard of a brobrella [15:23] just saw an add [15:24] brobrella is a large person that supplies you with shade to keep your beer cool [15:29] whaaaat hahaha :D [18:04] hmm... [18:07] inetpro you here? [18:11] hi smile [18:27] lo [18:27] hi ThatGraemeGuy [18:40] hi smile [18:40] hi ThatGraemeGuy [18:47] see you later, charl and Kilos :) [18:47] and everyone else :) [18:48] ok [18:48] good night :) [18:48] sleep tight [18:56] night all. sleep tight [19:06] I have a procrastination problem :( === SilverCodeZA is now known as SilverCode [20:07] good evening [20:51] yay!
