shay_shayhello04:18
shay_shayi need to build a 3.17-rc7 kernel with one option disabled04:19
shay_shayall the instructions i have found were for the ubuntu git repos, none of them are 3.1704:20
shay_shayhow do i merge all the changes which make an ubuntu kernel a ubuntu kernel to the linux torvolds git repo (which is presumably what i need to do) ?04:20
lordievaderGood morning.06:28

DJonesHow stable is 14.10 Ubuntu at the moment? Having issues with a 14.04 install & may need to reinstall, tempted to try 14.10, normally around now that would normally upgrade anyway16:48
geniiI'm finding it fairly stable here, but I use Kubuntu.16:56
BluesKajDJones kubuntu 14.10 here as well , very stable atm16:57
elfyxubuntu is stable too16:58
geniiYup, i have xubu and lubu 14.10 on my netbook peacefully co existing and running without issues.17:00
shay_shayWindows likes to eat Linux partitions17:27
shay_shayYou don't have to worry about the opposite17:28
shay_shayThis is why I use virtual machine17:28
BluesKajusually windows doesn't recognize ext partitions17:29
shay_shayThere's a setting in windows which will make those partitions invisable to explorer..17:30
shay_shayThat's very important17:30
shay_shayBecause explorer is always encouraging the user to format those unrecognised file systems17:31
shay_shayJeez M$, It doesn't have to support the file system but it should recognize them enough to not tell the user its formatted17:32
shay_shayThat is some shady tactic I bey17:32
shay_shayBet*17:32
shay_shayOne more reason to boycott them17:33
rwwdon't assume malice when stupidity explains it just fine17:34
rwwand while I'm at it,17:34
rww!m$17:34
ubottuPlease don't use silly misspellings to denigrate other operating systems. It makes users of that system feel attacked and hurts Ubuntu advocacy by making the community look unreasonable.17:34
BluesKajMS assumes this because 90% of systems are MS17:34
* genii makes more coffee and cookies17:35
lordievaderActually Windows does warn you that there might be data on there even tough he cannot read it.17:35
rwwI know its disk management tool does (the one that does online NTFS resizing).17:35
BluesKajI use ext2fsd to access linux data and folders on windows so there are methods to access linux from windows17:39
shay_shayRww that's a standard abbreviation ... I only use it because its a defacto standard. The purpose of using it is not an attack it was only so people would know I was talking about microsoft17:49
rwwlol no it isn't17:49
shay_shayI've seen it spelled that way than any other way17:50
DJonesNah, thats just troll speak17:50
shay_shayYou're just twisting my words,  didn't include any kind of attack in that two character acronym17:50
rwwmaybe you should hang out in places that don't encourage assuming "shady tactics" and jumping to boycotts17:51
shay_shayOK I agree17:51
BluesKajyeah, i don't "hate" windows , just prefer kubuntu, that's all17:53
lordievaderI actually use Windows, gasp17:53
* lordievader runs and hides17:54
vitimitihi17:54
shay_shayI use it for Solidworks, but I have a KVM with VGA pass through17:54
BluesKajlordievader, so do I :)17:54
BluesKajwife uses W7 so i keep  w7 partition to "keep up"17:56
shay_shayMy wife uses osx :O but she only uses VLC, transmission, and safari so she could really use anything .. I want to put kububtu on the Mac mini17:58
shay_shayKubuntu17:59
vitimitiMy gf would want an OSX for photoshop >:I18:00
shay_shayMy best friend is a professional at photography and graphic design, he approves of gimp instead of PS, but says he's not happy with the RAW processing suites on linux18:02
shay_shayI can't comment because I can't use that stuff to save my life18:02
vitimitiI have recommended her Gimp, but she would "have to learn everything again and it's a pain in the ass"18:07
BluesKajgwenview and imagemagick are enough formy needs18:08
shay_shayvitimiti: that's nonsense. Once an artist learns the tools its like riding a bicycle. Getting on a different bicycle only takes 'going easy' for a few hours until you learn its quirks18:14
vitimitishay_shay, tell that to her, lol18:16
shay_shayvitimiti: I understand. My wife will freak out ifni change her torrent client18:18
vitimitihaha18:18
rww!ot18:19
ubottu#ubuntu+1 handles support for the development version of Ubuntu.  Please join #ubuntu for all other Ubuntu support.  Chat in #ubuntu-offtopic.18:19
* BluesKaj waits for a ubuntu+1 related question... doesn't seem to be many atm18:22
rwwThere aren't, because utopic is pretty boring. #ubuntu-offtopic is still the best place for off-topic chat ;)18:22
BluesKajwhy are you there ? :)18:24
shay_shay I have a delema related to Utopic. I need to use a 3.17 kernel because earlier kernels don't have support for some of my hardware in them, unfortunately the kernels on the mainline PPA have this option CONFIG_USB_EHCI_HCD built in (not modular ) and I need to remove it. I want to use a kernel which is not completely generic so for all intents and purposes it will behave like a Ubuntu kernel from mainline18:31
shay_shayppa. Not really sure where to start on this. And for the record I have made changes to kernels before but haven't done a lot of back porting or rebasing efforts18:31
shay_shayBut I'm a git noob18:32
shay_shayMost of my experience comes from gentoo which is a much more spoon fed experience18:33
lordievadershay_shay: If you know Gentoo this should pose no problem ;)18:34
shay_shayWell no, gentoo has a ebuild for latest git sources and they get merged with gentoo sources with a script which someone else wrote18:36
shay_shaySo on gentoo all I would need to do is find a starting config and edit that one option18:37
shay_shaySorry rww I don't know how we got off topic18:37
shay_shayThat wasn't my intent lol /me looks at lordievader18:38
lordievadershay_shay: Genkernel user?18:38
shay_shayNo18:39
shay_shayNever used it18:39
lordievadershay_shay: So you compiled/configured it yourself. No problem then :P18:40
shay_shayAnyways, lordievader I flashed coreboot on my chromebook it fixed the problem I was having with syslinux18:40
shay_shayNow it boots anything :D18:40
lordievadershay_shay: Good to hear :)18:41
