Has anyone of you tried the plasma5 daily live image from 10/03/14? [11:24] nope :) [11:25] im using it on my work machine -.- [11:29] soee: you're using 5.0.95 on your work machine? [11:37] Antisound: sure [11:37] soee: how did you get it run? [11:37] if i boot it up kwin crashes everytime [11:38] indifferent if i upgrade from 5.0.2 or try it via live disk [11:42] I have a problem with my desktop that has an nvidia card, laptop upgrade is fine aside from a missing usb devices icon [11:43] sgclark: so you installed it via ppa or live disk? [11:43] both of mine were upgrades via ppa [11:43] damn,... i can't understand why it doesn't work for me [11:43] Antisound: im on Plamsa 5 since 5.0.0, and just doing upgrades [11:44] im using in on my laption with nvidia + optimus [11:44] if got an amd a4 cpu it's an integrated gpu unit [11:44] i can't think thats a problem [11:44] soee: you using nvidia-331 driver? [11:44] sgclark: the recommended one, [11:45] 331.89 [11:45] sgclark: can you tell me what i'm doing wrong? [11:45] interesting. [11:45] Antisound: I have no idea what you did. Sorry : / [11:46] just updated via ppa ;-) [11:46] Antisound: you did fresh install ? [11:46] soee: more than once ;-) [11:46] did you have any held back packages? [11:46] sgclark: if i upgrade via full-upgrade no [11:46] how ? i suggest install 14.10 beta, than add next-ppa [11:47] soee: maybe i should try this again [11:47] i upgraded from the live image 01/10/14 i think [11:47] soee: can you tell me if you have lightdm installed [11:47] soee: but you mean the 14.10 plasma5 beta [11:48] soee: or the "usual" 14.10 [11:48] sgclark: this is default [11:48] Antisound: i did normal 14.10 install [11:49] than added plasma-next ppa and did full upgrade [11:49] soee: but the normal 14.10 is with kde 4 or? [11:49] sgclark: i tried several times sddm but it alwasy fails [11:49] Antisound: yes [11:49] soee: so i try this [11:49] soee: ok that is my problem. thanks [11:51] soee: can you tell me where the difference between apt-get dist-upgrade and apt full-upgrade is? [11:52] Hiyas all [11:52] BluesKaj: hi! [11:53] hey Antisound [11:53] hiyas [11:55] well, the plasma 5 seems not too bad so far , no quicklaunch for the panel is disappointing tho [11:56] BluesKaj: quicklaunch ? [11:56] Antisound: not sure :) [11:56] BluesKaj: you're using Plasma 5.1 Beta? [11:56] okay soee ;-) [11:57] soee, there's a quicklaunch widget that one cab use for fav apps rather than the kmenu launcher [11:58] cab=can [11:59] BluesKaj: I am working on kdeplasma-addons, not sure if it is ported yet, but should be soon [11:59] but the favorites in the kmenu will suffice for now [12:00] BluesKaj: won't you reply me ;) [12:00] sgclark, good to hear, thanks [12:00] BluesKaj: you can alwayts pin your fav apps in task manager or icon task [12:01] the quicklaunch uses small icons [12:03] Antisound, using whatever plasma version is in the kubuntu next ppa [12:03] BluesKaj: so you updated via ppa too? [12:03] yrs [12:03] yes rather [12:04] BluesKaj: from which version you updated? [12:04] suddenly very dark in herer , rainclouds passing over [12:05] did you use a daily live image before? [12:06] soee: i'm going to try the method you recommend me ;-) [12:06] ttyl guys [12:40] re [12:40] can you tell me guys, when i'm going to update now, why the package plasma-desktop is held back? [12:45] install kubuntu-plasma5-desktop [12:46] okay [12:47] soee: i do the dist-upgrade now, and afterwards i install kubuntu-plasma5-desktop [12:47] i think it should install it for you [12:47] but if not, install it [12:47] its a meta package i think that should install all required packages [12:47] okay [12:48] we'll c what happens after full-upgrade [12:48] i'll update you ;-) [12:52] i remember that few monthe ago i had to force overwrite some pacjages that caused problems during ugrade [12:52] hope they all work fine now [12:53] brb in a few minute [14:13] so... one last try [14:13] soee: nothing worked... there were extreme dependency errors ;-) [14:14] i try with the plasma 5 beta 2 and update it via ppa [14:14] what errors exacly ? [14:15] Antisound: also are you creating new home/user or keeping old one and tinatlling system [14:16] a specific library [14:16] don't know the name anymore [14:16] libkf5 something,... afaik [14:16] keeping old why? [14:21] as i said i remember i had to do force overwrite when installing it some time ago [14:21] Antisound: i used: sudo apt-get -o Dpkg::Options::="--force-overwrite" install PACKAGE_NAME_HERE [14:24] soee: it wasn't possible for me to install it despite force [14:24] soee: whatever,... this is my last try... for now [14:25] Antisound, are you getting an error with this package, libkf5sysguard5-data_4%3a5.0.95-0ubuntu1~ubuntu14.10~ppa4_amd64.deb ? [14:26] Antisound, id so run, sudo dpkg -i -–force-overwrite /var/cache/apt/archives/libkf5sysguard5-data_4%3a5.0.95-0ubuntu1~ubuntu14.10~ppa4_amd64.deb [14:27] if so [14:27] BluesKaj: you might be right could have been that package [14:28] BluesKaj: but doesn't matter anymore ... installed the beta 2 for 14.10 plasma 5 [14:28] BluesKaj: i try to update this version now [14:28] we'll c if it will boot up [14:31] the update runs fluently till now [14:33] had a problem with it to [14:34] just did force overwrite [14:37] now dist-upgrade [14:40] BluesKaj: now i've got another problem [14:40] /var/cache/apt/archives/qml-module-org-kde-extensionplugin_5.2.0-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb [14:40] E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) [14:42] Antisound, this ppa? https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ppa/+archive/ubuntu/next [14:42] yep [14:42] 4 sure ;-) [14:47] damn is that an error which could kill my system? [14:49] okay i tried it once more with apt-get -f dist-upgrade [14:49] seems to be good [14:51] -f ? [14:51] force [14:52] soee: don't know why, but i think now it's working ;-) [14:52] hope so :) [14:54] hell yeah... updated ended with no errors [14:54] got to reboot [14:54] hope to ttyl ;-) [14:58] and how snow ? [14:58] here i am, back again with 5.0.95 [14:58] :D [14:59] * Antisound is satisfied ;-) [14:59] :D [14:59] pretty interesting,... till kf5 i never have used kde [15:00] but since the new kicker i like it [15:00] hmm looks pretty nice everything [15:00] true [15:01] i think the last times it didn't boot up the problem was because the dist-upgrade didn't worked correctly [15:02] the only thing, correct me if i'm wrong,... the firefox has no native kde look or? [15:07] define native [15:07] gtk apps shoudl use similiar style that qt do [15:13] soee: right [15:13] plasma is qt or? [15:13] and firefox is gtk or? [15:13] isn't it possible to let firefox look like a kde app? [15:20] and how it looks now ? [15:25] it looks like a foreign object ;-) [15:26] Go system Settings - > Application look [15:26] the GTK section and be sure GTK2 have qtcurve set [15:26] hmm, very few widgets actually work [15:27] soee: there was orion choosen [15:27] naah [15:27] use qtcurve :D [15:27] ok [15:27] ;-) [15:27] WAAAAAAAAAAAY better soee ;-) [15:27] thx :) [15:28] oh my gosh,. .it was so ugly before [15:28] soee: tell me why is the default setting this ugly thing :D [15:28] no idea :) [15:29] thisi smy gtk settings: http://wstaw.org/m/2014/10/04/qtcurve_gtk.png [15:29] ok [15:30] Riddell: the qtcurve isn't set by default for gtk2 apps ? [15:30] soee: whats your native language? [15:30] hungarian? [15:30] Antisound: Polish [15:30] ok [15:30] looks simliar ;-) [15:30] a bit :) [15:31] so we're "nearly" neighbours ;-) [15:31] * Antisound is german [15:31] :) [15:31] soee: you made my day with these settings change [15:32] im glad Plasma5 works for you :) [15:33] soee: yeah thx,... everything is fine now, for me too :) [15:33] would have been sad if beta 1 wouldn't have worked for me [15:35] now i can everything suit to my needs [15:37] soee: maybe you can help me with one last information... or anybody else... why doesn't muon discover show packages like wine e.g. [15:38] oh no idea, im not using muon discover [15:38] generally many packages which are installable via apt aren't installable via muon [15:38] BluesKaj: do you know maybe? [15:39] that makes no sence for me,... WHO uses muon... i've often heard for now,.. i'm not using muon [15:39] strange :D [15:40] well im using muon, not muon discover [15:40] muon = muon discover? !? [15:40] i thought... [15:40] nope [15:41] soee: what's muon ? [15:41] gnome hae synaptic, kde have muon [15:41] ok [15:41] unity has this Application Center or how do they call it [15:42] Kubuntu kave Muon Discover [15:42] ahhhhh [15:42] soee: that makes sence ;-) [15:42] so i've got to ask Riddell... [15:44] I think that shadeslayer or apachelogger is responsible for muon discover, but im not 100% sure [15:45] maybe one of these guys will responde if they read ;-) [15:46] You can install the "Muon Package Manager" to have that "all packages" experience. By design, Muon Discover is a end-user (i.e., not an expert user) level application, like an "app store" thing. If what you want is a more direct GUI front-end to apt-get / aptitude-search, then what you want is the Muon Package Manager. Install with: [15:46] thats what i found in an bug reporting ;-) [15:49] :] [15:53] damn [15:53] plasmshell crashed [18:30] omg, quassel is such a shitty software [18:31] not even dcc is provided... [18:31] I'm sure it does Antisound , you just have to look for it [18:31] where? [18:32] dunno i don't use it :) [18:32] hehe [18:32] lmao [18:33] http://bugs.quassel-irc.org/issues/22 [18:33] used once or twice for a few mins, but I didn't like the layout [18:33] what you say now BluesKaj ;-) [18:33] BluesKaj: recommend a better irc client [18:34] konversation [18:34] Antisound, wow , wasn't aware, that's surprising , no dcc [18:34] hehe [18:35] unbelivable since 7 years planed ;-) [18:35] unbelivable since 7 years planed ;-) [18:35] sry lag [18:35] been using konversation so long I can't remember when I started using it [18:35] ok [18:36] i'M trying it [18:38] re with konversation === Antisound_ is now known as Antisound [18:51] +1 for konversation [18:52] konversation +1 http://wstaw.org/m/2014/10/04/plasma-desktopMd2491.png [19:51] Hi. How do I file a bug against the Kubuntu Installer?
