=== Muhammad is now known as RichardStallman [03:53] baseball \o/ [03:57] Yay? [03:57] well two southern California teams got eliminated [03:57] hehe [03:57] sorry [03:57] Boo. :P [03:58] I learned that you can still *listen* to games on the AM radio for free [03:58] other option was to go to a bar, which, no [03:58] But noise! Also alcohol. [03:58] I just check Google Now for updates. [03:59] that's what I did before, and listen to street noise :) [03:59] during that 18 inning game a few days ago the street noise was great [04:00] the radio is now having a commercial about bleeding gums [04:00] nice [04:00] (ew) [04:01] If you don't talk to your children about bleeding gums, who will? [04:01] the dentist? [04:03] Of doom. [04:04] redundant [04:04] haha :) [04:09] now I'm hearing prop 46 propaganda [04:09] i haven't looked at my voter guide yet, no idea what that is [04:10] oh gosh, I need to order my ballot [04:10] Medical Malpractice lawsuit cap. [04:10] eww [04:11] there, done [04:12] i'm "permanent vote by mail" and i kinda have to be since i'm a pollworker in the election [04:12] I should probably do that, I don't remember the last time I was in town during an election [04:12] I always voted on my break. Often at the poll I worked at. [04:12] nhaines: that's not allowed here [04:13] In LA County you can cast your vote at any precinct in the county, but you can only vote in local ordinances in the same locality. [04:14] the natives are getting restless [04:14] but, last time i brought my sealed vote by mail envelope to the poll i worked at and had it counted there [04:14] But since I often worked at my assigned precinct, it was often a short trip. [04:15] i am assigned to my home precinct, i looked [04:15] In LA County you can drop off a by-mail ballot at any precinct. [04:15] as i was last time [04:15] They don't open them, just collect and deliver them. [04:15] same in SF [04:16] the ballot in SF this time is 4 or 5 double sided pages, depending on the precinct [04:19] oh brother [04:19] I don't want to read about that much stuff [04:19] even-numbered supervisorial districts vote for the board of supervisors, odd-numbered ones don't [04:23] winnars!! \o/ [04:25] you're in district 6 iirc [04:25] yep [04:25] 7 for me [04:25] longer ballot for me :( [04:25] yes [04:28] when that height limit thing went on the ballot, expected voter turnout was low enough to dictate that my entire precinct be vote by mail only, and i worked a different precinct still in district 7 [04:29] first voter that day was the outgoing supervisor [04:30] in that precinct, i saw on the roster a lot of voters registered as members of the party of george wallace, very conservative neighborhood, and all the voters who ran into each other seemed to know each other [04:32] republicans still outnumbered democrats as far as i could tell, and i saw some instances of households where the husband was a democrat and the wife was republican [04:40] the republicans are the real terrorist of this country [04:40] oops, political talk [04:40] you started it [04:41] yeah, "oops" :) [04:41] [Tue 2014-10-07 09:09:25 PM PDT] now I'm hearing prop 46 propaganda [04:41] so the weather is nice this evening [04:41] it's political weather! [04:42] haha, no no [04:42] I'm in sacto and it really is kinda nice now [04:42] 60ish here [04:43] Politically? [04:43] i go back to sf tomorrow [04:43] supposed to go up to 90 again this weekend :( [04:43] nhaines: no, politics here is worse than sf [04:55] …chat death… === RichardStallman is now known as Coimbra [17:47] jyo: will you be at the Ubuntu Hour tonight? (I have books for release party) [17:48] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0uQBwFMfBk [17:48] Title: [2Pac - Gangsta Party (Official Video) HD1080p - YouTube] [17:48] Aint nothin' but a Gangsta Party :D [17:51] the police only came to one of my ubuntu release parties [22:50] elky: you guys coming out to the ubuntu hour tonight? I miss you <3 [22:50] pleia2: i had dental stuff done yesterday, not up to it sadly. i miss you too :) [22:51] elky: that doesn't sound like fun, hope you feel better [22:51] meanwhile, my boxes finally arrived :D [22:51] \o/ [23:12] pleia2: random but do you have window treatment? We got this Low E window treatment that tints the windows and it drastically reduced heat [23:14] bkerensa: nope, it's against the HOA [23:14] LOL [23:14] wow [23:14] Never ever ever will I live in a place that has a HOA [23:14] our windows can't be tinted and have to have white shades [23:14] :P [23:15] Hah [23:15] it's a highrise, they all have them [23:15] white shades even? [23:15] because someone might notice a difference? [23:15] :P [23:15] we're in a historic district, so HOA rules have to line up with that [23:16] ahh [23:16] Wow, that's pretty severe. [23:17] We have an HOA but it's a super low-key one. [23:17] $25/year fee which goes toward food at the annual picnic. :) [23:17] ours is like $650/mo [23:17] Ouch! [23:17] but, highrise :) [23:18] there's a whole building to take care of, operating budget is over a million [23:18] Seriously $650/mo? That's more than rent in a lot of places. [23:18] sure is! [23:18] rent in this building starts at around $2400/mo for a studio on a low floor :\ [23:18] ah san francisco [23:19] no rent control here and we bought our place, so pay less than a renter would [23:20] here == our building; lots of places in SF do have rent control [23:24] TIL if I move to San Francisco my new home will be a refrigerator box. [23:50] akk: Thats over half my rent [23:50] craziness [23:51] pleia2: now would be a good time to sell even :) I hear hedge funds are concerned about dat tech bubble 2.0 [23:51] if it pops... boy is SF housing values going to hurt
