germanpianistahello18:52
germanpianistai'm new here, i just installed yesterday ubuntu studio18:52
germanpianistaany help?18:53
seanzgermanpianista: What is the problem you're having?19:16
germanpianistahello can i write you in private?19:17
seanzIf you need to, but I'm not necessarily knowledgeable about Ubuntu studio yet.19:17
germanpianistawell i'm really new to linux in general. i installed linux by dual-boot and now have windows 7 and ubuntu studio19:18
germanpianistai can't get my sound interface to work. it's focusrite saffire 6 USB19:18
seanzgermanpianista: What software are you trying to record with?19:19
germanpianistawell ubuntu studio came with Ardour... but all the OS doesn't seem to even recognize it19:20
germanpianistai can't hear nothing when i play a mp3 on any program19:20
seanzDo you know for sure that your audio hardware is supported in Linux?19:20
germanpianistanot for sure. i did my research and found many people didn't have any problem but a lot of people couldn't make it work either19:21
seanzHm. So the hardware doesn't show up in qjackctl?19:21
germanpianistawell i just opened qjacktl but don't know how to see if it show up there19:22
germanpianistaremember i'm new to linux! i'm just learning how things are done here :S19:22
seanzgermanpianista: You may find more help in #ardour. The ardour creator hangs out there.19:23
seanzNo promises, though.19:23
seanzHe's extremely knowledgeable, but I don't know how busy he is.19:23
seanzNick is "las" (without the quotes).19:23
seanzThere are others there who are quite knowledgeable as well.19:23
germanpianistathanks i'll go there and try to ask19:24
seanzExcellent. Be patient if you don't receive answers right away.19:24
germanpianistathe thing is that i can't work without my sound interface. and if i can't get it to work i'll have to go back to windows and forget about linux forever :( :(19:24
seanzI understand - that's why I directed you to someone who I know would be able to help.19:25
germanpianistathank you for your help!19:25
germanpianistai also wrote on the ubuntu forum. i did my research before but i'm kind of overwhelmed now19:26
seanzYes, I understand that. I'm still learning the JACK audio subsystem and feel much the same way.19:26
seanzgermanpianista: One suggestion is to jump straight to the problem you're having.19:27
seanzDon't ask to ask for help.19:28
germanpianistaoh thanks19:28
seanzgermanpianista: Also, keep focused on the fact that your problem is with getting JACK to recognize your hardware, and then using Ardour with it.19:28
germanpianistai tried updating the kernels, but had a big kernel panic. tried to uninstall them and still had the kernel panic. I had to install everything from scratch last night19:29
