xperiahi all. could it be that ubuntu has some seriuos problem with multi threading on a Intel Dual Core Processor ?11:51
xperiai have installed ubuntu on a Laptop beside Windows7 and i am not able to run multithreaded Programms in Ubuntu anymore in contrary to Windows on the same Laptop Machine. i tryed also to boot Ubuntu with the Boot Options ht=on and acpi=ht but when i do lscpu i dont see more than 1 Thread per CPU even the Processor has HyperThreading and MultiCore Support is enabled in the Bios.11:51
jtaylorhow many cpus does /proc/cpuinfo show?11:53
jtayloralso what exactly does unable to run mean?11:53
xperiajtaylor: just one second i am checking the logs to see if there are some strange problems. got a read error "unable to read, broken pipe"11:55
xperiajtaylor: cpuinfo show two cores and two siblings. unable to run mean when i have a mutlithreaded programm then at maximum two threads are executed instead of say 8 or 1611:58
rbasakxperia: it's up to your program to decide how many threads to use. Sometimes programs look in /proc/cpuinfo (or similar) to come up with a reasonable guess.12:19
rbasakIt doesn't matter if you only have one core. A program can still start as many threads as it wants.12:20
rbasakSo you'll need to look into the program you're running to see what it's detecting and how it decides how many threads to run.12:20
xperiarbasak: the thing is that it use a simple Parallel For Loop and in ubuntu this Parallel For Loop is not executed in parallel like it executed in windows. in windows the Parallel Loop is executed at once multiple times while in ubuntu there is no parallel execution and for my surprise the whole programm just stall. something is very weired with ubuntu for sure. it is not the programm.12:24
xperiai have read that there is some difference between the 64Bit Version of Ubuntu and 32 Bit Version. on my Ubuntu 32Bit Server edition the programms works very well but on my Ubuntu 64Bit Laptop Desktop the Programm does not work like it should.12:26
sacarlsonxperia: I haven't noticed any difference 64 32.  I just upgraded about 5 weeks ago and all seems to work the same12:38
rbasakxperia: written in what language? It may be something to do with the language implementation.13:49
rbasakPresumably the implementation is different between Windows and Linux?13:50
rbasakYou might need to tell it how many threads to use.13:50

NikThHello people.19:27
NikThUpgraded to 15.04 from day one. Today I faced a little problem (proposed repos are enabled-always), with ofono package.19:28
NikThFunny thing here is, I didn't even know the existence of this package. Now I know :)19:29
NikThA .service file is missing and it cannot be installed properly. The weird thing is that NetworkManager does not start properly without ofono. Am I right ?19:30
