[14:06] My phone is connected to my computer, but adb devices shows nothing. [14:15] It mounts on my 14.04 desktop, and I see a directory named Nexus 4 that has the phone's files. [14:15] I'm trying to figure out how to get GPS data from the phone. [14:16] I want to work on an app that will require that. [14:16] Unfortunately, I can't get passed square one :-( [14:37] jelkner: Yeah, via System Settings [14:39] Laney: so I set a 4 digit access key and switch to developer mode, yes? [14:40] jelkner: Something like that [14:40] I don't have a device handy to check exactly what it is [14:40] Laney: np, thanks! [14:42] Laney: that did it. it can see my device now. [14:43] Nice work [17:24] Any one ported ubuntu touch on Android one devices http://www.android.com/one/india/? What's the kind of general state of things with Ubuntu Touch? [19:57] steffan_, it will go on sale preinstalled before end of the year [19:58] ogra_: Allright, that will probably be good for the amount of apps. What about the ports? [19:59] up to the porters ... most of them didnt see any movement after their initial port to an today obsolete version though [20:00] ogra_: So anything that isn't actively maintained might as well be restarted from scratch? [20:00] yeah [20:01] ogra_: Do you by any chance have an idea of how hard it would be to port touch to the Galaxy S2? [20:01] you can surely base on the old stuff though, but apart from the nexus5 and nexus7 "deb" port i dont know of any actively maintained ones [20:02] ogra_: I have a device and a few weeks of free time, so if it's doable I might get into it [20:02] not too hard [20:02] I wouldn't say actively maintained as much as "it didn't break yet" :/ [20:02] yeah, well, the two functional ports rather :) [20:03] Tassadar: So how stable it the base then? [20:03] *is [20:03] what do you mean by stable [20:03] what do you mean by base ? [20:04] Well I'm guessing there is some code that is universal to getting ubuntu touch to work on a device. Is that right? [20:05] Or is it more like messing about in the particular kernel until you get it working? [20:05] the system consists of a normal ubuntu install (like on any PC for example) and an lxc container in which a minimal android runs to provide the android HAL [20:06] (binary blobs and the minimal amount daemons to use them ... to access sensors, graphics modem etc) [20:06] I'm not really using ubuntu touch very much, but they feel confident enough to start seling phones with it, so it might be at least somewhat stable) [20:06] the whole ubuntu part is generic [20:07] what you need to port is the content of the lxc container which is based of your android git tree (massively cut down thoug, to the level of some HW bits) [20:07] ogra_: Tassadar: So just some background, I don't know a lot about phones, but I am a developer and computer science student and I know my way around Linux [20:09] I'm guessing I should go read the porting guide? :) [20:09] well, since we (have to) use the android binaryy blobs that is the part you need knowledge about [20:09] the guide is sadly havily outdated [20:10] (as the ports are ... nobody has time to update it atm until the first phones go on sale ) [20:10] Yeah I figured that, which is why I came straight here [20:10] Hmmm. Here right away [20:10] My Dutch is bleeding through a bit [20:11] heh [20:11] So is there documentation somewhere that you would might be relevant? [20:12] generally you should start by getting a kitkat tree for your device ... the basics of the old porting guide still applies ... cut it down to the minimum ... [20:13] get libhybris to work in it (that is the communication layer used to have the two systems work together) [20:13] that should be a good start (and keep you busy for a while) [20:14] for the S2 there is an xda forums thread somewhere for the old port [20:14] !devices [20:14] You can find the full list of devices, official images, community images, and works in progress at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Devices [20:14] should be linked somewhere from a subpage of that wikipage [20:14] * ogra_ needs to go ... [20:15] you will best get answers during european and US office times here [20:15] Alright. Seems like a good way to start. Thanks :) [20:15] good luck :) [20:15] (i helped a bit with the old S2 port and would be interested to see a working new one ) [20:16] (i just dont have any spare time to look into it myself) [20:16] ogra_: If I get anything working I'll let you know :) [20:17] Or I'll try to [20:41] Tassadar: btw, i was able to see upgrades after i returned home and got back on my wifi. just wasn't working on 3g. weird. :-/ [20:42] i wonder if the "auto download" setting has something to do with that [21:13] dobey: might be my server is blocked by your carier for some reason [21:15] Tassadar: i'm pretty sure i've installed an update on 3g before though. and the blacklist file was downloaded ok with the system-image-cli command. [21:16] Tassadar: anyway, i'll have to look at it later if i want to figure out why it wasn't working === diddledan_ is now known as diddledan
