BluesKajok , try sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart13:18
alvinBluesKaj: Believe me, I've tried. The worst thing is that nothing in the logs shows anything weird13:19
alvinWireshark shows the DHCP requests leaving13:20
BluesKajok , do you have the correct driver for the chip ...I have to ask :P13:20
alvinI tried 2 drivers. The default, built in. And the newer version from Intel.13:21
BluesKajok13:21
alvinBut yes, it's certainly the e1000e driver.13:21
BluesKajright13:21
alvinThe weird thing is that I do see incoming stuff from wireshark13:22
alvinSome UDP packets from my switch for example.13:22
BluesKajdoes 'ip addr' give you anything?13:23
alvinOnly, eth0 does not want to get an IP. I can give it one, but that still doesn't help. I disabled UFW too.13:23
alvinBluesKaj: Yes, an APIPA address: 169.254.6.228/1613:23
alvinand some inet6 stuff13:23
BluesKajit should just give you the same as ifconfig, now that ip addr replaces it13:25
alvinRight. I've heard some rumours about that. Didn't know what came instead.13:25
alvinWireshark is open and capturing. I see a lot of stuff coming in. UDP, ICMPv6, BROWSER stuff. But somehow it all doesn't count.13:26
BluesKajifconfig is still a valid command, and they give slightly different results13:26
alvinWell, I disabled network-manager earlier and used the 'old' ifconfig way of setting an IP address. Even tried with a cross cable to my notebook. Nothing. I couldn't ping the notebook after setting an address manually.13:27

alvinI also tried an USB stick with the Kubuntu 14.10 installer. Same thing. Live desktop environment: no network.13:53
BluesKajwell, when I was running static IP without NM it had to be removed so it didn't overwrite /etc/resolv.conf and other networks settings13:54
alvinIt has been a while since I've ignored network-manager. It's actually quite handy on my system. But then I've used DNS-settings in /etc/network/interfaces and left network-manager running.13:55
