[15:03] link? [15:03] !topic [15:03] aww does that not work here? [15:03] tis' a shame [15:04] and they're live [15:04] hello. [15:04] Guys, get some lower-thirds for your names! [15:04] hi elopio [15:04] sorry, my IRC client timed out, hehe [15:05] heh [15:05] QUESTION: What hardware does a phone and a desktop need to do the convergence? [15:05] for anyone else who wants to join in the live session; https://plus.google.com/hangouts/_/hoaevent/AP36tYcrCbBMHcQIN2y7CrA6CQt4jxQ6_YDjn1Gq570w4m5x5YxmNg [15:06] akiva-thinkpad, that question looks familiar :P [15:06] akiva-thinkpad, can you rephrase that; it's a bit confusing to me [15:06] lol [15:06] akiva-thinkpad, feel free to unmute when needed:-) [15:06] yah I muted myself thanks [15:06] cool [15:06] balloons, I think he means "What hardware does a phone really need to act as a converted device?" [15:07] *converged [15:09] Yah the latest versions of many of the core apps are pretty old in that ppa [15:09] Can the desktop in 14.04 run a click package? [15:10] QUESTION: Does Unity 8 w/mir work with all the virtual machines yet? Which VM software do I need to use if I want to test it this way? [15:11] DS-McGuire, technically yes, but it's disconnected and you don't get apparmor support, etc. So really no :-) [15:11] QUESTION: Will Unity 8 w/mir have a live desktop that you can run off a USB? [15:11] akiva-thinkpad, there is one already [15:11] http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-desktop-next/daily-live/current/ [15:11] seb128, /me is embarrassed! [15:11] I havn't actually installed it yet [15:11] balloons, Oh, that's a shame. I made a web app and uploaded it but I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't run :/ [15:12] DS-McGuire, you should be able to install it as a click on unity8 [15:12] DS-McGuire: well that's why you need to test on the emulator [15:12] I did get it to run on my Nexus 10 so it's all good, just wanted it on my desktop. [15:12] nik90, that's what I am planning to do today :) [15:13] DS-McGuire: the issue with click packages is that, some services like the content-hub is not available on the desktop. So there isn't a straightforward way to run sdk apps on the desktop. [15:15] QUESTION: When are the desktop designs going to start to roll out? [15:16] unity8 on mir works on nouvau - I can confirm that [15:16] Mir alone does work on an AMD chip I've got [15:17] awesome [15:17] I'm trying to bring unity8 up on it with the free driver too [15:17] QUESTION: How does one test Unity8+Mir using a lxc container? Is that even possible? [15:17] Yea I use the open source AMD drivers. I just find them more performant and keeps my processors cooler than fglrx. [15:18] hey guys i need information about kerberos bat in my conuntry don't exist many information about it. [15:18] AlexColombia, might be better to ask in #ubuntu [15:18] wiki page on the container: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Unity8inLXC [15:19] QUESTION when will the "windowing" system land in NEXT? [15:19] ChrisTownsend: cool, thnx [15:19] My plan on the unity8-lxc package is to get a few more bug fixes in and then attempt to get it in trusty-backports. [15:19] nik90: np! [15:20] https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/client-1410-unity8-desktop-iso [15:20] ^ that has some workitems [15:21] ChrisTownsend: A trusty-backports might not be required as long as the PPA is up to date since I remember SRUs take a lot of time to be approved and released. [15:23] nik90: Right, but it would be nice to have it in the archive (it's currently in the archive for Utopic/Vivid). Backports are treated a bit different than SRU's since they are not aimed at security updates. [15:23] nik90: I definitely will keep the PPA up to date though, so meh.:) [15:23] :) [15:26] QUESTION: Pardon my ignorance; is there a convenience app in this image for grabbing system logs? Are the syslogs for mir different than what system log (on unity7) currently uses? [15:26] no convenient app preinstalled, there is a logviewer in the click store [15:27] the system logs are similar to desktop yet [15:27] seb128, interesting. [15:29] here [15:29] o/ [15:30] It should work with Trusty and later. [15:30] If not, it's a bug that I need to fix:) [15:31] bregma: What???? I am professional:) [15:31] sry [15:31] lol [15:31] ChrisTownsend, awesome thanks [15:31] balloons: np! [15:33] QUESTION: how can we the apps from ubuntu store on Ubuntu next desktop/unity 8? [15:33] install [15:34] http://packages.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/327/builds [15:34] girox: you need to use the app scope [15:34] http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/ [15:35] last time i've tried with a 14.10 next image didn't work [15:35] http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/326/builds/83518/testcases [15:35] i'll try 15.04 thanks [15:36] yo mu niggas [15:36] whats popping dawgs? [15:38] QUESTION: how can we record/take screenshots of Ubuntu next/Unity8? [15:39] https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity8-desktop-session [15:39] that is what I mean [15:39] lol [15:40] okay great [15:40] QUESTION: What kind of testing is needed from users? [15:40] girox: phablet-screenshot foo.png [15:41] QUESTION: What basic use cases can Unity8 do now in terms of daily usage? [15:41] girox, I know that willcooke has figured out how to make screen casts and such [15:41] Is screenshotting working on mir yet? [15:41] if you use phablet [15:41] thanks [15:41] command I just typed [15:41] thats what I use for taking screenshots on my phone [15:41] Sys logs [15:42] hit vol up & down simultaneously, you get screenshot too [15:43] cool [15:44] QUESTION: is there a way of running "traditional" desktop apps (from debs) from the unity8 launcher? [15:44] o/ zomtir [15:45] hm.. what is this mirscreencast? https://code.launchpad.net/~afrantzis/mir/mirscreencast-utility [15:46] dkessel, things with a .desktop should be listed in the apps lens, if the desktop includes X-Ubuntu-Touch=true [15:46] dogfoodable? [15:46] lol [15:47] Do questions! [15:47] girox: it's a mir screencasting tool. If you run it against unity-system-compositor, it should work. I doubt i will not work against unity8 though [15:47] yay another unstable parallel installation on my system :D [15:48] so i can record unity8 with mirscreencast? :D [15:48] nice [15:49] girox: possible, not sure if that util is fully functional [15:49] but should be [15:49] cool [15:50] ha [15:50] thanks :> [15:50] okay good to know its coming [15:51] nik90> QUESTION: How does one test Unity8+Mir using a lxc container? Is that even possible? [15:51] QUESTION: Does Unity 8 w/mir work with all the virtual machines yet? Which VM software do I need to use if I want to test it this way? [15:51] akiva-thinkpad: that was answered by ChrisTownsend on irc [15:51] akiva-thinkpad: was referring to my question [15:51] true [15:51] just want to get it on record :) [15:53] As an enthusiastic but non technical user I would gladly run U8 on my everyday box if I could install and use BtSync, Spideroak, or Dropbox. All I use on 3 boxes is Ubuntu so if I knew that my data was still syncing and that I could walk over to one of the other systems if I needed to and continue work I would definitely do that. Are there any cl [15:53] oud syncs that currently work on U8 === ChanServ changed the topic of #ubuntu-uds-users-1 to: Currently no events are active in this room - http://summit.ubuntu.com/uos-1411/users-1/ - http://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2014/11/12/%23ubuntu-uds-users-1.html [15:55] Thank you all!!! [15:55] thanks [15:56] balloons, i'll think about writing a screenshot app, similar to shutter if needed. [15:56] Thanks!!
