QuixxFor what it's worth, wallpapers for desktop 1 aren't being displayed on desktop 2... or desktop 1.00:04
brainwashQuixx: is it a bug?00:08
brainwashif yes, please report it here https://bugzilla.xfce.org/00:08
QuixxI dun wanna make an account just to report one bug00:11
QuixxAlso why does alt+scroll change zoom now instead of window transparency/00:19
Quixx?00:19
brainwashQuixx: http://git.xfce.org/xfce/xfwm4/commit/?id=e7da725aab39018f54383dc6e8a64eccd879303500:22
Quixxoh nevermind it's middle click+left and right00:24
brainwashalso, I don't know how to help you with the wallpaper issue and you are not willing to report it :/00:24
QuixxWell a report would basically just be posting what I've posted here00:25
QuixxI'd be willing to write out whatever extra info is needed, but I don't feel like creating an account on a site that I'm probably not going to use more than once or twice.00:26
Unit193But in a place devs can referece it and read it.00:26
brainwashthis is a support channel, devs are not reading it00:26
ali1234i'm reading it00:28
knomewell, the developers are sometimes reading this channel, but it's not really a given...00:29
xyzoneso does anybody know where the configuration of per-user dual screens is?00:31
ali1234~/.config/monitors.xml00:31
ali1234also in the displays xfconf channel00:34
QuixxIf someone really cared they could put it in the bug report thing since they used the site somewhat frequently.00:34
ali1234Quixx: we can't do that and here is why00:34
ali1234if i write a bug report saying "wallpapers for desktop 1 aren't being displayed on desktop 2... or desktop 1."00:34
ali1234eric is going to read it and then say "it works for me, how do i reproduce this?"00:35
ali1234and i'm going to say back "i dunno, it works for me too"00:35
ali1234and then we aren't going to fix it00:35
QuixxBut if I write in what the problem is00:35
Quixxand someone says they can't reproduce it00:35
QuixxI'm never going to see it because I'll forget to check the site00:35
ali1234the site will email you00:35
QuixxIn any case the two monitors are rotating images from septate folders, it seems like the setting for monitor 2 are just being forced on monitor 1 for some strange reason. Image cycle timer still works from desk1 settings but desk2 timer counts as well, and images are all based on desk2 settings.00:36
knomeQuixx, pretty please, file a bug00:37
knomeQuixx, you can even file it in on launchpad if you are more comfortable with it00:37
Quixxdo I have to make an account for launchpad?00:38
knomeQuixx, https://login.launchpad.net/+login00:39
xyzoneali1234, there is no such file in xubuntu 14.0400:41
ali1234xyzone: it is created by some monitor config tools00:41
ali1234the xfce one uses xfconf however00:41
ali1234xfconf-query -c displays -l -v00:42
ali1234if you use multiple different monitor config tools they will fight each other and mess everything up. sad but true00:42
ali1234also, if you use nvidia binary driver, probably none of them will work properly and you must use nvidia-settings, which is not per-user at all00:42
xyzoneali1234, I'm using the default dual monitor application that pops up when you connect an external monitor00:43
ali1234Quixx: if you do report a bug, please attach output from xrand and xfconf-query -c xfce4-desktop -l -v00:43
ali1234xrandr sorry00:44
xyzoneOk, the displays are at ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/displays.xml01:37
n-iCeHello guys02:36
ObrienDaveGreetings & Welcome02:39
n-iCeHow are you?02:39
ObrienDavegood, thanks. do you have a support issue?02:40
n-iCeWell, I'm thinking on install xubuntu02:41
ObrienDavewhat are you running currently?02:42
n-iCeno idea which distro I want02:42
n-iCecrunchbang02:42
ObrienDavenever used it. you like functionality or bells and whistles?02:42
n-iCeI like something fast, and small02:43
ObrienDaveI like Xubuntu. it just plain works02:44
ObrienDaveI should say, all 'buntu distros share the same core. just different DE02:44
ObrienDaveI like most XFCE distros02:45
n-iCebut02:46
n-iCeis ubuntu slower than xfce'02:46
n-iCeI mean, does it feel slower?02:46
ObrienDavethat would be a matter of opinion. XFCE is certainly lighter on resources than Unity DE.02:47
ObrienDavebut with 'buntu, you can easily switch DEs02:48
ObrienDaveI have XFCE, fluxbox, enlightenment19, and i3 installed02:48
n-iCewow, why02:49
ObrienDavejust because i can :)02:49
ObrienDaveyou could also. easy enough to install different DEs. Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Unity, Gnome. etc. if you like02:51
ObrienDavewithout reinstalling the core system02:51
n-iCewould not like that02:52
n-iCeI am downloading XFCE right now02:52
ObrienDavecool02:52
n-iCehow to boot from a usb, I think unetbootin does not work?02:52
n-iCewith it'02:52
ObrienDaveunetbootin is recommended for USB stick. i prefer to write ISO to DVD/RW. i've had better luck that way02:53
Unit193!usb02:54
Unit193You can also use dd or one of many other tools.02:54
ubottuFor information about installing Ubuntu from USB flash drives, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick - For a persistent live USB install, see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveUsbPendrivePersistent02:54
n-iCethanks02:54
ObrienDaveor, burn ISO to DVD, use that to install to USB stick. gives you a live, portable system :)02:54
n-iCeI just have a usb02:54
ObrienDaveok, unetbootin or dd commands. i am not familiar with dd02:55
n-iCeok02:55
n-iCethanks02:55
ObrienDavewelcome02:56
n-iCewhere are you from02:56
ObrienDaveOregon02:56
n-iCe4minutes more02:59
ObrienDavedo you have Virtualbox or something like that?03:00
n-iCeno03:00
n-iCewhy03:00
ObrienDaveyou could install it to VM and not mess up your current system, if you don't like Xubuntu03:01
n-iCeI don't care about formatting all03:01
n-iCeindeed,  don't like VM03:01
ObrienDaveok03:01

ObrienDavek03:06
n-iCehow can I run a ./unetbootin and see what's going on03:07
n-iCebecause did not launch03:07
Unit193Install it from the archive.03:08
n-iCeIm back03:19
n-iCeon xubuntu03:19
n-iCeinstallation does not detect I am connected already to the internet03:19
ObrienDaveno clue on that one03:20
n-iCeanyway03:21
n-iCeIt is installing, and it looks awesome03:21
n-iCeand so fast03:21
ObrienDavecool03:21
n-iCeCan I change the top bar color?03:23
ObrienDaveyou can. easier to change themes. i use clearlooks and crux03:25
n-iCeok03:27
ObrienDavehmm, don;t have clearlooks anymore. sec03:28
ObrienDavemy mistake. under settings, appearance, you'll find crux and clearlooks03:31

james0rwhen removing my AC Plug i'm getting a big drop in screen brightness. not seeing a setting for this in the power manager though.08:43
Mike-Linux-NLgo to the xfce power management settings in your taskbar08:50
Mike-Linux-NLgo to preferences and then look under battery. there u see a tab called monitor where you can set the default percentage in brightness08:50
james0rMike-Linux-NL, i'm on 14.10. I dont have a tab called 'monitor' but i do have one called 'Display'. But there are no settings for default brightness under this tab08:54
Mike-Linux-NL it should say Level at the bottom08:55
Mike-Linux-NLwhere you can set a percentage08:55
james0rMike-Linux-NL, only for "on inactivity reduce to" however this should apply to when i unplug my ac plug (and am active) and just for kicks and giggles i tried it and sure enough it doesn't apply08:58

holsteinarmstrong: i would think of it the other way.. your optical drive either doesnt seem to be supporting linux, or you have not learned to configure it to.. you are unable to get it to read *any* discs? or just DVD's? can the bios see it? can you test it with another operating system that the DVD drive supports officiall?18:46
armstrongthanks holstein18:47
armstrongbios sees it, and its worked on other systems18:47

matrixa1How do I stop the battery from charging above a certain percentage?20:45
brainwashmatrixa1: does your hardware support this feature?20:45
matrixa1Or modify the "charge" and "charged" thresholds separately?20:46
matrixa1brainwash, I don't own a thinkpad, no20:46
matrixa1except, I have an issue where the battery is charging/charged/charging/charged etc. at 93%20:47
matrixa1so one of those threasholds is wrong20:47
brainwashI guess you've already asked google, right?20:48
matrixa1and the issue was not present in 14.04, but is present in 14.1020:48
matrixa1brainwash, i've asked google, and it only has answers for thinkpad models20:48
matrixa1if the solutions was a modprobe it I would've solved it mysel20:48
brainwashyour problem is not xubuntu specific, so I recommend that you also ask in #ubuntu20:49
brainwashit's a hardware specific issue I'd guess20:49
Guest35977does anyone know of a voice chat program that can do ip to ip calling? (no accounts)20:49
matrixa1brainwash, THANKS, AND WILL DO20:50
matrixa1caps apologies20:50
brainwashmatrixa1: hopefully you'll get a better answer :)20:50
matrixa1brainwash, will delve into kernel specific modules that regulate battery charging20:51
matrixa1and see if the #ubuntu swarm knows anything20:51

temje Hey folks. I'm running Xubuntu 14.04.1. I recently uninstalled steam with 'sudo apt-get remove steam' and now all I get is a grey screen upon login. I can still run guake though!21:49
temjeany ideas?21:50
brainwashtemje: can you run the app finder? alt + f221:57
temjeI'll find out in a sec!21:58
brainwashor open the application menu via ctrl + esc21:59
temjeapp finder works21:59
temjectrl + esp says: Failed to execute child process "xfce4-popup-whiskermenu" (no such file or directory)22:00
brainwashfrom the appfinder you can start the different Xfce components like "xfce4-panel" and "xfdesktop"22:01
temjenope22:02
temjeno such file or directory22:02
brainwashbut I would suggest that you run "xfce4-settings-manager" and navigate to Session and Startup > Session and clear the session cache22:02
brainwashthen relog22:02
brainwashdid you remove any Xfce related packages?22:02
brainwashalso, try to log into the guest session22:03
temjexfce4-settings-manager worked22:03
temjei cleared the session cache22:04
brainwashif the guest session is not initialized properly, then there might be something missing package wise22:04
brainwashok22:04
temjehow do i logout from terminal?22:05
brainwashxfce4-session-logout --logout22:06
brainwashI think22:06
temjeyep!22:06
temjehmmm now i get the desktop background, still no panel22:07
temjeguest session is the same22:07
brainwashwhat is the terminal output of "apt-cache policy xfce4-panel"?22:07
temjexfce4-panel:22:09
temjeInstalled: (none)22:09
brainwashok22:09
brainwashit is not installed22:09
temjestraaaange22:09
brainwashsudo apt-get install xfce4-panel22:09
temjedone22:10
brainwashmaybe also run "sudo apt-get install --reinstall xubuntu-desktop"22:10
brainwashin case more packages gone missing22:10
temjeoooh yep, 31 newly installed packages22:11
brainwash:)22:11
temjeis there something I have to do to make everything start automatically again?22:12
temjePS Thanks!!!22:12
brainwashclearing the session cache should do the trick22:13
brainwashthe panel is now loaded properly, or?22:14
brainwashjust want to make sure :)22:15
temjejust cleared the cache, now restarting22:15
temjesame thing22:15
temjegrey screen22:16
temjenow i can launch the panel from the app finder though22:16
brainwashwhat about the guest session?22:16
temjeworks perfectly22:17
brainwashnow that's odd22:17
brainwashtry to clear the session cache manually, ~/.cache/sessions22:18
temjeclear it? as in remove everything in it?22:18
brainwashyes22:18
temjeand then login or restart?22:19
brainwashrelog22:19
temjenow desktop background is there, but no panel22:19
brainwashtake a look at ~/.cache/upstart/startxfce4.log22:20
brainwashstarting the panel manually works fine, right?22:21
temjehold on, got it! i cleared the session from the guest account the first time.22:21
temjethe only strange thing now is right-clicking on the desktop does nothing22:21
temjeor dragging22:22
brainwashoh, that does not make much sense :P22:22
brainwashdragging desktop icons?22:22
temjeI don't have any desktop icons (i don't normally) but usually a box appears when you drag22:23
brainwashlooks like xfdesktop is not running either22:23
brainwashstart it manually22:24
temjeyep that worked22:25
brainwashif both components still do not start automatically, you'll have to backup your xfce4 config files and test again22:27
brainwashsimply rename ~/.config/xfce422:27
brainwashand relog22:27
temjesame thing except now my panel is on top22:29
brainwashcan you upload your ~/.cache/upstart/startxfce4.log ?22:30
brainwashrunning out of ideas =S22:30
temjeone sec22:34
temjenothing there22:35
temje!22:35
brainwashnothing at all or nothing related?22:36
temjenothing at all22:36
temjeoh wait22:37
temjenvm22:37
temjethere it is22:37
temjehow do i upload it?22:38
temjehttp://pastebin.com/YmfrS6rd22:40
temjethere it is22:40
brainwashrather confusing log22:43
temjehahha22:44
temjeagreed!22:44
temjebrainwash: sorry, I've gotta get going!22:44
brainwashalso, I'm not sure how uninstalling steam would have caused this22:45
temjethanks soooo much, I'm way further along then I was before22:45
temjemeeeee neither22:45
brainwashyou're welcome :)22:45
brainwashhopefully you'll get it fixed22:45
temjeworst comes to worst, i'll reinstall. Not too hard!22:45
temjethanks!!!!!!22:45
temjehave a good one!22:46
