[00:47] :) [00:47] hi [00:48] if I am installing lubuntu on T61 Lenovo 2 GB ram is it better to install 32 bit version? [00:48] or 62 [00:48] *64 [00:48] which one is faster? [00:49] you playing games or doing video editing ggg ? [00:49] no [00:49] then it doesn't really matter [00:49] oki [00:49] however, i would argue that 64bit is a little more "common" [00:50] also it seems screen refresh rate is lower in ubuntu or something [00:50] If you have a fair amount of RAM and your computer supports it, 64bit. [00:50] eyes get tired :D [00:50] in win its ok [00:50] Unit193: although, that's really not often achieved outside of computationally intensive programs [00:50] ggg: you can change that of course [00:50] there's been talk in the ubuntu community about getting rid of 32 bit images [00:50] from what i can tell this is not ready to happen, but it may be a harbinger of what's to come [00:51] excellent :) [00:52] wx1 lol I wonder what in lubuntu makes screen to harsh on eyes [00:52] diff drivers? [00:52] possibly [00:52] depends on whether or not your chip has an open source driver [00:52] if so, it's probably the same [00:52] i dont think it have [00:53] screen looks a bit like robotron lol [00:55] lol [00:56] oki time to sleep [00:56] screen really mad [00:56] :D [01:48] Hey, how does one move the control bar thing down on screen? [02:53] acecipher you can drag window with alt +mouse [02:54] did you move panel? [02:57] no [02:57] Elyssa needs it [03:54] the panel? === LarrySteeze is now known as LarrySteeze|Away [06:32] There is any way to personalize the Keybord under Lubuntu or ubuntu ? My keyboard is Spanish and i use to right in Portuguese, so i not able to put the ~ up on the A or the O !Some tip to help me ?There is any way to personalize the Keybord under Lubuntu or ubuntu ? [06:34] There is some way to run a website that need Microsfot Silverlight to run under ubuntu or lubuntu ? [06:34] like this one http://irisonline.pt/ [06:53] ok, here's the question for the advanced support: how do you set your own compose sequences? having import "%L" plus definitions in ~/.XCompose does not seem to be enough [06:54] anjo-aladiah: I don't think there's any other way than using WINE these days [06:55] silverlight? i think the mono guys made something along those lines. [06:55] but afaik silverlight's on its way out [06:55] i am no able to install moonlight on console [06:55] Why i cant install linux microsoft silver light alternativa ? http://paste.ubuntu.com/9067112/ [06:55] There is some Lubuntu or ubuntu alternative to Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator 1.4 [06:56] i need to personalizes my Spanish Keyboard because iam Portuguese. In the Key i have ¨ and ' and { , i need ~, but this one iam not able to put it up on the A or the O letter . [06:57] you mean you want à and Õ [06:57] !pt [06:57] Por favor, use #ubuntu-br para ajuda em português. Para entrar no canal por favor faça "/join #ubuntu-br" sem as aspas. Para a comunidade local portuguêsa, use #ubuntu-pt. Obrigada. [06:58] afaik moonlight is dead and buried [06:58] running Firefox or IE in wine is probably a less painful solution [06:58] rmadison moonlight-plugin-mozilla is sure taking its sweet time :) [06:59] oh ic why [06:59] available only for lucid [06:59] that's why anjo-aladiah -- development died [06:59] !info moonlight-plugin-mozilla lucid [06:59] moonlight-plugin-mozilla (source: moon): Free Software clone of Silverlight 2.0 - Xulrunner 1.9 plugin. [07:02] latest commit over a year ago [07:02] http://www.irisonline.pt [07:02] you could built it yourself https://github.com/mono/moon [07:02] anjo-aladiah: it may be easier to help you in portugese. try #ubuntu-br or #ubuntu-pt [07:03] Why not just use Wine, that way the silverlight stain is contained even more [07:03] hahaha [07:04] I prefere English room, its more internationalized and better help [07:04] more people [07:04] more ideas [07:05] anjo-aladiah: well, in that case, either use firefox in wine or compile moon yourself. [07:05] ok [07:05] anjo-aladiah: although i bet you the guys that speak your language probably have more direct experience with dealing with the keyboard. [07:06] no they dont. [07:06] well more than i do :) [07:06] Portuguese people use to buy portuguese laptops with portuguese keyboard [07:07] I went to Spain buy one with 17 inchs that they dont sell for a faire price in Portugal at all or they dont sell at all [07:07] thats why [07:08] Its easy to find a South american Brazilian with a south american Spanish with this problem [07:09] I don't understand the issue, is it that you can't change layout? [07:09] Even if the physical keyboard is spanish you should be able to change the layout to portugese [07:15] hateball [07:16] That's me [07:16] hateball: i need to personalizes my Spanish Keyboard because iam Portuguese. In the Key i have ¨ and ' and { , i need ~, but this one iam not able to put it up on the A or the O letter . [07:16] like à [07:16] technically compose will take care of it [07:17] There is some Lubuntu or ubuntu alternative to Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator 1.4 ? Someone in Ubuntu room toold me the LXDEkeytool is able to do it [07:17] thanks any way [07:17] yes wxl [07:17] thas it [07:17] iam only able to Ä [07:17] its different doesnit ? [07:18] hard to tell at the font size i'm using :) [07:18] lol [07:18] with the compose key i just alt A ~ [07:18] i have alt set to the compose key [07:18] iam able to tyoe ~ [07:18] but not able to put it up on the consoant [07:19] if you add the following to ~/.config/lxsession/Lubuntu/autostart it will work for you: [07:19] @setxkbmap -option compose:ralt [07:19] note that will make it work for the RIGHT alt [07:20] that to much hacking for me . [07:21] if i put that sentence any where inside that file, ¨ ' { key will i give ~' { for sure ?= [07:23] i can't understand what you're asking [07:24] because ~ doesn exist in this keyboard, i read on internet that if i did Alt gr + 4 key combination( note this key show me 4$ charaters), it will gave me ~, and it did but not the way i want up on the consoants ! [07:24] how are you able to type it then? [07:25] doing Alt gr + 4 key combination( note this key show me 4$ charaters) [07:25] but this ~ is under line [07:25] when i do the combination it appear even before i type any letter! [07:25] lolol [07:25] its hilariant [07:25] <~> = à [07:26] just like <.> <.> = … [07:26] and <|> = ¢ [07:26] and <=> = € [07:26] etc [07:27] ho my friend if i was close to you , i will pay you to do it for me . [07:27] believe me [07:27] * wxl shrugs [07:27] oh [07:27] iam not well prepared to do it [07:27] try using setxkbmap -option compose:ralt in a run window or a terminal [07:28] i will do it now [07:28] ok Ç? [07:28] you help me [07:28] heh [07:28] if you put it with the @ in that autostart file it will be done automatically from here on out [07:28] first of all i put @setxkbmap -option compose:ralt on terminal right ? [07:29] or first i have to open the file [07:30] if you already have that running, then you're good for this session [07:30] if you add that to the autostart file, then it will work next time and there on out [07:32] i need to open and modify the file first doesn it [07:33] "echo @setxkbmap -option compose:ralt > ~/.config/lxsession/Lubuntu/autostart" [07:33] just paste that, done [07:33] um [07:33] misplaced echo? [07:33] s/echo/quote/ [07:33] there is a way to revert if something went wrong ? [07:34] so i will type in console : echo @setxkbmap -option compose:ralt > ~/.config/lxsession/Lubuntu/autostart [07:34] wxl there is a way to revert if something go wrong ? [07:34] anjo-aladiah: quite easy to fix. but you should type the following EXACTLY: [07:35] echo "@setxkbmap -option compose:ralt" >> ~/.config/lxsession/Lubuntu/autostart [07:35] ok i did it [07:35] the console dont answear me nothing . it s normal ? [07:35] yep that's usually a good sign [07:35] wxl: Yes, bit too fast on the trigger. Not enough coffee :) [07:36] hateball: aye yae yae [07:36] äÄ~aæ´wxl + [07:36] hahaha someone's having fun over there XD [07:36] this did nothing [07:37] ñää [07:37] right alt letter tilde [07:37] æ [07:38] that's alt a e [07:38] æ~ [07:38] a then ~ [07:38] i dont have ~ on my keyboard remember ? [07:39] a~ [07:39] then how can you type it??? :) [07:39] Alt Gr + 4 [07:39] oh sheesh [07:39] combination [07:39] and it appear imediatly [07:40] even before a type a or o or anything [07:40] alt gr is "right alt", if anyone is confused here [07:40] wxl what i should type now to revert the process [07:40] that may be the problem [07:40] just edit the file and change ralt to lalt [07:40] then run the command in terminal [07:41] how [07:41] ok [07:41] with any file editor you like including leafpad [07:41] tell me [07:41] please [07:41] the command [07:41] open leafpad [07:41] do file open [07:41] navigate to the file [07:41] open it [07:41] change the r to and l [07:41] save the file [07:41] where it is = [07:41] ç? [07:42] your home directory /.config/lxsession/Lubuntu/autostart [07:43] ok i did it [07:43] and save [07:43] now reboot need ? [07:43] good now actually run the command in terminal [07:43] what command ?¿ [07:43] echo @setxkbmap -option compose:ralt > ~/.config/lxsession/Lubuntu/autostart [07:43] setxkbmap -option compose:lalt [07:43] ? [07:43] then do the following: [07:43] done [07:44] [07:44] ~ [07:44] ~ [07:45] nothing happens [07:45] dont work at all [07:45] try restarting [07:45] reboot ? [09:54] wxl [09:55] wxl: iam back . After reboot it doesn t work . Please how can i put things as they were prior to our interventation ? [09:59] wxl: do you remember what we did http://paste.ubuntu.com/9069492/ [10:04] then i chenge RALT TO LALT as you said [17:53] phillw, are you around by chance? [17:56] Since there's a chance that person might be: I was in here two days ago. I've got an Acer Aspire One 725-0826 and I reported that waking up from suspension was not working properly (blank screen). I was experimenting and tried `sudo pm-suspend` and... Well, that worked [17:56] But closing the lid or suspending from shutdown screen still doesn't work [17:56] yeah.. it can be challenging.. on hardware that doesnt support linux well, i usually come up with a workaround. in some cases, just not using or expecting suspend support [17:57] Though I know it's possible on this unit because suspend/resume works fine using regular Ubuntu with Unity [17:59] sure.. just make sure you are comparing the same versions.. like 14.04 ubuntu vs 14.04 lubuntu.. and not, different kernels [18:01] holstein, hmm, nice one [18:01] Now that you mention it... [18:02] I'm not sure that I'm running the same version [18:02] NyanCat: you can probably test with the live iso's.. if you dont need proprietary graphics drivers.. [18:03] Though actually that right there might be the issue [18:03] Just noticed that i'm using stock for everything [18:03] and apparently the os is reporting that my wireless isn't working even though... i'm connected through wireless [18:03] lol [18:03] its a matter of just isolating, and keeping an open mind.. since, you are not promised linux support. it can be challenging, for sure [18:03] well heck holstein if you hadn't have mentioned the word proprietary i wouldn't have checked [18:04] So it's certainly more help than anything (: [18:07] holstein, going to reboot and try again [18:07] looks promising so far [18:08] NyanCat: i wish i could say "it wont hurt" ;) [18:14] holstein, hah [18:14] well, if it does hurt, i'm punching you first [18:15] holstein [18:15] IT WORKED [18:15] i resumed to lock screen [18:15] lol [18:15] NyanCat: cheers.. that was easy [18:16] now i can use an OS that goes easier on my battery! [18:22] NyanCat: I am, but seems problem solved :) [18:22] heck yeah [19:20] holstein, just playing with it here [19:20] it's a bit touchy, but it works to my liking [19:21] sometimes i have to close the lid again and then reopen it [19:27] Hey fellas, is anyone here very familiar with lxle? I just switched from lubuntu to lxle, and I think some configuration settings are left over in my home partition and I'm trying to change them act more like lxle does in a live boot [19:30] aarondabomb: create a new user (maybe with admin-rights) and check this default clean empty one -- then you can compare to all those configurations in your old-home-directory in .config .local .gconf and so on [19:31] testdr: thanks that's a good idea! [23:50] hello [23:50] any ideas how I can get proper video driver for t61 laptop? [23:51] there is some funny stuff goes on [23:51] eyes get tired fast [23:51] like some barely noticeable flickering [23:56] http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1861251 [23:57] Hertz what kind of graphics on the laptop? [23:59] checking
