AA27Hi all06:23
Oh_Yessshey, I'm having issues with ubuntu studio on my probook... the wifi seems to randomly drop off, but other devices are connected just fine... is there a know bug for this?06:24
stochastichey, fresh install of 14.10 here (vanilla Ubuntu) and after downloading the -audio and -audio-plugins metas I tried starting jack with firewire.  No dice - even with sudo, so it's not a permissions issue.  Are there troubles with this release in general or is it something I should just plug away at finding the settings?14:24
stochasticI'll watch the logs if anyone wants to toss an opinion out there.  Gotta reboot a few times to get this running.  Why won't it just work? :(14:32
holsteinstochastic: interesting16:40
holsteinstochastic: i always like to test the upcoming releases with my firewire device, but, i didnt have the chance to with this release16:40
holsteini didnt even get around to any iso testing of any kind for 14.1016:40
holsteinstochastic: do you have access to other machines with firewire? and firewire chipsets?.. not that that is the issue, but, it would be nice for data..16:41
wachinI have a friend from Germany who was using Ubuntu 12.04 on a mini laptop: Asus eeePC, I said that better install be the UbuntuStudio because it is lighter and I said to her that I could install and said yes, and I installed the version 14.04 1, and has already passed some days, and she said that have a problem, can not copy mp3 music to external mp3 player brand "Denver". I checked the mp3 placed on the laptop and nautilus folders appear with an X,18:09
wachinbut I used the command: chmod -R 7777 /Full/Folder/path but get a message that says can not have access to this route. I open gparted and said appear to not correctly mounted. Some of your can help18:09
holsteinwachin: i would not suggest ubuntustudio on any netbook18:10
holstein!12.0418:11
ubottuUbuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) is a currently-supported !LTS release of Ubuntu.  Download http://releases.ubuntu.com/12.04/ - Release Info: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes/120418:11
holsteindesktop support will be ending soon-ish, as well18:11
holsteinthat being said..18:12
wachinoh18:13
wachinok Holstein, thanks18:13
holsteinwachin: it depends on what the unit is..18:13
holsteinwachin: what format is it?18:13
wachinI don't understand "unit"18:14
holsteinwachin: you have a hard drive.. an external mp3 player18:15
holsteinwachin: im referring to that as a "unit"18:15
holsteinwachin: what format is the hard drive?18:15
wachinfat18:16
wachinbut I not see fat32, only see "fat"18:16
wachinthis said on gparted18:16
holsteinwachin: keep in mind, nothing about ubuntu or ubuntustuduio or linux is preventing that device from being mounted18:17
holsteinwachin: if it shows as a "drag and drop" hard drive, then, you can manage it in linux easily18:17
holsteinwachin: if it requires 3rd party software, then, you may not be allowed to manage it18:17
holsteinwachin: i would start with it as a hard  drive.. see if it mounts in the file manager..18:18
wachinyes, is mounted. But In this moment I am not with the laptop, I only remember yerterday18:19
wachinthe mp3 was mounted on nautilus, I can navigate through the folders, but are with a "X" like when a file is blocked, like other user18:22
holsteinits not the mp3 that gets mounted.. its the internal hard drive18:23
holsteinwachin: if its fat, you can not have permission to access the drive18:23
holsteinwachin: i would try moving as sudo18:23
wachinoh18:23
holsteinsudo cp /something/to/the/drive18:24
wachinWhell, I the afternoon I go to her house, I go with my own laptop Inspiron 1750 with Windows 7 and UbuntuStudio 14.04.1 x386 where I'll try that, also I'll try it in windows 7, lest it be corrupted and not work either windows or linux18:27
wachinThanks Holstein for your help, see you later18:27
holsteinwachin: good plan18:30
