jgornickHey guys, if I clear out my udev 70-persistent-net.rules file and reboot the computer, why isn't the file being automatically repopulated with my devices?02:35
pmatulisjgornick: i think that was a trick only for older releases.  not 100% on that02:57

hariomIs there anyway to test if stunnel4 is working fine?14:37
hariomor is it possible to run in foreground and see whats is going on14:39

adsci have the following packages which have been kept back: linux-generic linux-headers-generic linux-image-generic15:29
adscnow it seems everyone recommends to do a dist-upgrade to install them15:29
tom[]adsc: i apt-get install them15:29
adscbut I don't really want to upgrade to 14.1015:29
adsctom[]: yeah, i've seen that, but it seems to have the side effect that apt marks them as user-installed, and hence they won't be able to be removed by autoremove in the future15:30
tom[]will that be a problem?15:31
adscwell...15:32
adscwhat are they, anyway? The kernels of the 14.10 distribution?15:32
adscdo I really need them?15:33

tom[]i like to keep the kernel updated15:33
adsci'll try a pretend and see what it does15:39

PlizzoHi! I recently upgraded my server from Ubuntu Server 11.10 to 13.10, and ever since my system totally freezes every few days. All tasks hog, it doesn’t respond to SSH and the LCD panel on the front even has time frozen. Any ideas what could causing this? I’ve check dmesg, syslog and kernlog without any traces. Please help me!19:21
lordievaderPlizzo: 13.10 is EOL, please update to 14.04 or 14.10.19:22
sarnoldPlizzo: please note that 13.10 hasn't received any updates for four months. Please consider upgrading to 14.04 LTS, which will be supported until 2019.19:22
Plizzolordievader: How would I go about updating to 14.04 or 14.10? A release upgrade made it into 13.1019:23
sarnoldanother do-release-upgrade  ought to do it19:23
lordievader!eolupgrade19:25
ubottuEnd-Of-Life is the time when security updates and support for an Ubuntu release stop, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases for more information. Looking to upgrade from an EOL release? See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOLUpgrades19:25
Plizzosarnold: Alright, I’ll give that a shot and hope it also resolves the issues19:25
=== jvwjgames_ is now known as jvwjgames
Plizzolordievader: That page doesn’t show 13.1019:31
Plizzolordievader: Do I still need to add the old-releases into my /etc/apt/sources.list?19:31
lordievaderPlizzo: Which page are you reffering to?19:31
Plizzohttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOLUpgrades19:31
sarnoldprobably you don't need to worry about old-releases just yet19:32
PlizzoI’ll just try do-release-upgrade then?19:32
sarnoldyeah19:33
PlizzoThanks, I’ll hook up physically with a keyboard to do that, nothing I want to do over SSH :P19:34
sarnold:)19:35

Plizzosarnold: Worked like a charm, hoping that this also fixes the freezing..20:12
sarnoldPlizzo: I hope so too :) good luck20:12
Plizzosarnold, lordievader: Thanks to you both!20:13

WebdevbHey everyone, can anyone help with mysql errors?22:53
tewardWebdevb: depends on the errors22:57
Webdevbthink it just ran out of memory really teward22:57
Webdevbhttp://paste.ubuntu.com/9289667/22:58
sarnoldcan't allocate 128M? ouch22:59
Webdevbsarnold, what do you mean?23:00
sarnoldWebdevb: 128M is so .. small .. in the grand scheme of things today23:00
sarnoldWebdevb: do you have any errors in dmesg?23:00
Webdevbsarnold, how do I find this... sorry I'm not the best.23:00
sarnoldWebdevb: dmesg | tail -3023:00
tewardsarnold: unless this is a really really small VPS or something... in which case 128M might be the max ram on the system.23:02
Webdevbsarnold, teward: http://paste.ubuntu.com/9289705/23:03
Webdevbfirst time it's happened in over a year.23:03
Webdevbwell it's never happened before.23:03
sarnoldouch, that's the OOM killer..23:03
Webdevbsarnold OOM killer?23:04
sarnoldWebdevb: when you're out of memory, the kernel starts killing processes, using the "OOM killer"23:04
=== jvwjgames_ is now known as jvwjgames
tewardyep, to prevent the system going totally instable23:04
tewardlooks like apache is being killed too23:05
Webdevbarrrr ok, guess we can put this down to black friday23:05
Webdevbit's ok now23:05
tewardWebdevb: website going down repeatedly, I guess?23:05
sarnoldWebdevb: probably something else is wrong on that machine; check top output sorted by memory used23:05
tewardagreed with sarnold, something else is probably going on23:05
Webdevbit seems ok now23:05
sarnoldWebdevb: it might take some apache tuning to prevent it from spawning too many processes23:05
Webdevbsarnold, teward: http://paste.ubuntu.com/9289791/23:07
Webdevbit's only got 1gb of memory and it's been a really really busy day23:09
sarnoldonly one gig? no wonder it's in pain :) heh23:09
Webdevbsarnold does the top look ok...23:10
sarnoldyou might want to limit apache to only five or six children23:10
Webdevbsarnold will that now stop people access the site?23:10
sarnoldWebdevb: well, it's tricky; if it means that your system doesn't swap as much, each individual request -might- be handled more quickly, and your users might get better experience23:11
Webdevbok, or should I just increase the memory...23:11
sarnoldif that's an option, definitely23:12
sarnoldyou've got 2.2 gigabytes of apache processes, .9 gigabytes of mysqld processes, and then there's nova-agent and driveclient23:12
sarnoldfour gigabytes would make that a much happier machine23:12
Webdevbok no problem... it seems ok at the moment, we have had quite a large offer on today so I guess it's just had enough of today...23:13
Webdevbhaha23:13
sarnoldhehe :)23:13
Webdevblike me really23:13
Webdevbit's been a bloody long day.23:15
Webdevbhaha23:15
Webdevbsarnold new setup... 2 servers behind a LB both with 4GB of memory... is that better?23:26
sarnoldWebdevb: much better, though I don't know how well your database will love it. I hope you don't double-sell any inventory..23:29
Webdevbdouble-sell?23:29

PlizzoI have an issue with my server. I upgraded from 11.10 to 13.10 using ”do-release-upgrade”, and started experiencing seemingly random hogging/freezing of my entire machine and system. I then today tried to upgrade to 14.04 LTS to remedy this issue, but to no avail. The upgrade to 14.04 does seem to have had the opposite effect. The first freeze now occured after approx. 2 hours. Any ideas what could be causing this?23:58
