tootheI am having dragon player crash at startup06:21
tootheit doesn't end up starting up.06:21
valorietoothe: you might try starting it from the commandline, and see if there is some useful output06:28
valorieor, does dr konqui pop up?06:29
toothei fixed it...06:31
toothewell, rather I just rebooted06:31
toothe(the universal solution)06:31
toothei noticed that several programs startup when I boot up -firefox, pidgin, thunderbird06:32
tootheI didn't set them to do that anywhere and am not able to find where they are specified to startup in their settings06:32
tootheis that a KDE thing?06:32
valorieyou can set that stuff up in systemsettings06:33

valorie"autostart" is what that section is called06:36
tootheyeah, its not there...06:37
toothepidgin, thunderbird, firefox...they're not there.06:37

tootheperhaps...06:39
valorieand if you don't shut down applications before you log out or shut down06:39

valorieif you usually do that, which is not a good idea, by the way, you can ask instead for an empty session06:40

smoof_can anyone here easily clone an entire linux into an ISO so that all the installed software, and of course configvurations, are loaded when i re"install" the clone?09:51
smoof_No idea on cloning. my tuxboot and clonezilla attempt only rendered a useless grub file, which I couldn't figure out how to access!09:52
valoriesmoof_: there is clonezilla, although I've not tried it09:52

smoof_naw it didn't make an iso.09:53
smoof_that was strange coz that was what I asked tuxboot to do...09:53

DragginHi, good afternoon :) Can anyone tell me if there is still an "alternate installer" available for Kubuntu? From Googling around, I get the impression that there is not...13:31
lordievaderDraggin: No longer, but there is the mini iso and the server iso.13:33
DragginBecause I have quite the mission ahead of me... Going to install Kubuntu 14.10 on quite an old computer. It's BIOS based, not UEFI, but I'll be using an Advanced Format WD drive with GPT, so there's quite a bit of setup required before I even install. My big problem, however, is the fact that the old AGP graphics card in the machine doesn't run the installer very well. It's practically impossible to see anything...13:33
Dragginlordievader - thanks. Any advice about my graphical issue though? I've done an installation with the mangled graphics before and the machine runs perfectly fine afterwards (and after adding the nVidia legacy PPA). Since there are so many new variables on this particular machine though, I don't want to risk messing things up with the mangled display of the installer...13:35
Dragginlordievader - is the mini.iso just a minimal installer that would require Internet connectivity to download the rest of the packages?13:36
lordievaderDraggin: Perhaps the nomodeset kernel parameter works?13:37
BluesKaj_Draggin, what about the onboard graphics as a temporary measure then restore the AGP card after installation13:37
lordievaderDraggin: Yes, an internet connection is required13:37
DragginBluesKaj_ - the machine in question has no onboard graphics... o_O13:37
BluesKaj_aokaaay13:38
Dragginlordievader - Aha! Let me go try that quickly and see what that does for me...13:39
BluesKaj_Draggin, well the mini iso is basically a text install method, no fancy graphicsneeded13:41
=== abc123def456 is now known as organixpear
Dragginlordievader - Alas... Even with nomodeset it still looks exactly the same...13:47
DragginBluesKaj_ - that would be perfect, except for the masses of additional stuff I'd have to download. I'm on an extremely expensive metered connection... :(13:47
lordievaderDraggin: Then try either the mini iso or the server iso.13:47
BluesKaj_Draggin, this might interest you, http://lxle.net/13:52
BluesKaj_it's not kubuntu, but it might fit your needs13:52
yossarianukDraggin: are you installing on am amiga13:54
DragginBluesKaj_ - Thanks :) That looks pretty awesome. I guess I'm just stuck in a bit of a groove though... I know Kubuntu runs perfectly fine on the machine I want to put it on. In fact, I'm running Kubuntu on the machine I'm on right now, and it's even older with worse hardware.13:54
Dragginyossarianuk - Haha! Not quite that bad :P Pentium 4 2.4GHz.13:54
yossarianukyou mentioned AGA...13:54
yossarianukno you didn't sorry13:54
yossarianukwhoops13:54
DragginBluesKaj_ - And I've tried various flavours of Ubuntu thus far and I definitely like Kubuntu the best13:55
Dragginyossarianuk - I'm pretty sure it'd be an interesting experience installing on Amiga though... :)13:55
BluesKaj_Draggin, understandable, I feel the same way :)13:56
DragginBluesKaj_ - Wouldn't LXLE be more or less the same thing as Lubuntu though?13:57
yossarianukDraggin:  its possible to install linux on newer ones powerpc versions...13:57
DragginThat also runs LDE, if I'm not mistaken13:57
BluesKaj_ok , I reallyt didn't look too deeply13:58
Dragginyossarianuk - Wow... I've been messing around with Linux for a couple of years now, but I definitely still consider myself a noob, but I'm constantly amazed by how powerful and versatile it is. I still remember how excited I was when I heard about YellowDog, which allowed you to install Linux on a PS3 :) (and subsequently found a very humourous article called "How to install Linux on a Dead Badger" :P )13:58
lordievaderDraggin: Yes, Lubuntu runs LXDE.14:01
DragginBluesKaj_ - No problem :) Seems I'm just dead set on doing things the hard way...14:01
DragginOops... Sorry about that...14:08
DragginPower outage. The perks of living in rural South Africa... :P14:09
BluesKaj_Draggin, we get them too, a power outage did in my outboard drive14:10
BluesKaj_here in Canada14:10
DragginWe get them at scheduled intervals these days though. The power company can't supply enough power to the entire country, so we kind of have timeshare...14:12
DragginAlthough I'm not sure if that's what's happening right now.14:13
DragginBluesKaj_ - just read up a bit more about LXLE and Lubuntu. Seems LXLE is sort of an enhancement on Lubuntu. Like Lubunte Deluxe :)14:13
BluesKaj_yeah, looks good tho14:14
DragginYup. I have some even *older* machines lying around too. I might try it out on them14:15
EvilRoeyhello all14:16
EvilRoeyBluesKaj_:  hi!!!14:16
EvilRoeyand lordievader, hi too!!14:16
EvilRoeyHad a question from yesterday: Hey all, I have BTRFS subvols mounted for /home, / and others.  How do I reinstall Kubuntu and leave /home as it is, while obliterating / ?14:17
lordievaderHey EvilRoey, how are you?14:17
BluesKaj_apparently it's meant to rescue those who have machines that no longer have windows xp support14:17
lordievaderEvilRoey: Use the manual partition option within the installer.14:17
BluesKaj_Hi EvilRoey14:19
BluesKaj_why btrfs ?14:20
DragginBluesKaj_ - I saw that :)14:21
EvilRoeyBluesKaj_:  because it's the fyootureâ„¢14:23
EvilRoeyBluesKaj_:  because I wanted to be able to backup with send/receive instead of dirvish.14:23
EvilRoeyBluesKaj_:  and a few other reasons14:23
EvilRoeyBluesKaj_:  ok, so with the manual partition option, can I instruct it to reinstall to / (and to wipe /) but leave /home?14:24
EvilRoeybecause they're all subvolumes on that one BTRFS partition.14:24
lordievaderEvilRoey: Yes.14:24
EvilRoeypics or it didn't happen14:24
lordievaderAh, perhaps with btfs it works differently...14:24
lordievaderTry it ;)14:24
EvilRoeylordievader, seeeeeee14:24
lordievaderPerhaps the text installer is able to do it though. For the more complex setups I allways go with the text installer.14:25
yossarianukDraggin: you really want lxqt14:25
lordievaderOr you do a debootstrap install, that'll work ;)14:25
DragginWell, the battery on this laptop is almost gone now too... Guess I'll have to go do some reading or something that doesn't require electricity :P Thanks lordievader and BluesKaj_ for the advice and suggestions. I'll see how far I get and report back. Who knows, next time I log in here might be from the "new" old computer ;)14:26
BluesKaj_Draggin, good luck :)14:27
Dragginyossarianuk - that also looks great... Thanks for the suggestion14:27

nhaHmmm... browsing through the KDE Wiki, I suspect some stuff needs updating. If I understand this correctly, KDE Frameworks 5 is part of the normal Utopic, and it's only Plasma 5 which requires a separate PPA. Is that correct?22:34
nhaIt seems so from the package lists, but that doesn't match what's written on https://community.kde.org/Frameworks/Binary_Packages ...22:35
