lordievaderGood morning.08:46
Mikaelahi08:55
lordievaderHey Mikaela, how are you?08:56
MikaelaI am not sure, and you?08:56
lordievaderMeh, allright I guess. I think I'm going to try and fix a samba issue.08:57
MikaelaI am acting like doing multimedia tasks, I think, while IRCing and having many unrelated tabs and reconnecting Windows PCs to domain09:07
BluesKaj_Hey folks12:43
Mikaelahi12:44
BluesKaj_hey12:45
Mikaelahome finally, bye12:46
BluesKaj_mbalmer, pls check your connection13:54
BluesKaj_err mbruzek1 ^13:54
mbruzek1Sorry BluesKaj_ I am trying to figure out SASL and how it works with pidgin13:54
mbruzek1I registered mbruzek with freenode and I can't figure out how to actually USE the nickname with SASL authentication.13:55
mbruzek1apologies to everyone for the multiple join/part13:55
BluesKaj_pidgin and sasl ... use a real irc client like konverstion or quassel, mbruzek113:55
mbruzek1BluesKaj_: thanks I would love to use quassel, but I can not get the sound working on that one.13:56
mbruzek1have not tried konverstation13:56
mbruzek1ahh both quassel and konversation are for KDE13:57
mbruzek1What about those of us who continue with unity?  All the extra packages!13:57
BluesKaj_err konversation13:57
lordievaderXchat?14:01
lordievaderIrssi :D14:01
mbruzek1all good options to look into.  Again sorry for the multiple join/depart14:01
lordievadermbruzek1: That's quite allright, if people are really bothered by it they can turn it off ;)14:01
mbruzek1BluesKaj_: I honestly tried quassel but the notifications do not play for me at all.  I tried both the KDE and QT client both install fine but both have no sound (and the kde one pulls in a lot of extra packages).  My google-fu has returned no matches for "quassel not playing sound"14:04
BluesKaj_mbruzek1, why do you need sound on an irc client ?14:06
mbruzek1BluesKaj_: Because I want to know when someone needs my attention otherwise I am going to work14:10
BluesKaj_set your client to notify you in the highlight section14:12
mbruzek1BluesKaj_: I did, quassel gives no beep, I let several messages go while I evaluted it.14:13
Mikaelambruzek1: you must set SASL username as the same that you see as accountname in /msg nickserv info mbruzek114:25
Mikaelambruzek1: and in addition to that Pidgin doesn't use SASL without SSL by default. There is also #pidgin which might be able to help you14:25
Mikaelalordievader: xchat really shouldn't be recommended anymore as it's no longer maintained and it doesn't support anything newer than SSLv3 which servers are disabling. HexChat is fork of it that is maintained and has SASL support and is in repositories https://hexchat.github.io/ . HexChat can also take config from XChat which is explained in their FAQ.14:26
Mikaelaoh and the UI hasn't changed from xchat14:27
lordievaderMikaela: Check.14:28
mbruzekMikaela: I could not authenticate to freenode with ssl enabled.  I was able to manually authenticate to NickServ just now, but would like to figure this out so I will take your advice and join #pidigin14:29
BluesKaj_yup hexchat is a good alternative irc client especially on Windows14:29
Mikaela:)14:30
Mikaelaalso on OS X, but it doesn't work on it so well according to what I have heard.14:30
mbruzekthanks for the help I know this wasn't the right room.14:30
MikaelaYou're welcome :)14:32
mbruzekMikaela: I am alone in the #pidgin room14:32
mbruzeknot freenode?14:33
Mikaelait should be at #freenode14:33
MikaelaI am there and see 165 nicks, are you sure that you spelled the name correctly?14:34
mbruzekwrong irc server on my part.14:41
* mbruzek sighs, it is going to be a long day14:41
MikaelaI would suggest you to try HexChat14:42
mbalmerBluesKaj_, what is wrong with my connection?15:02
mbalmerah, that was not me ;)15:02
