[05:40] hi juned [05:40] welcome to ubuntu-za [05:42] !help [05:42] hehe [08:45] I think my media pc is about to die completely [08:45] oi [08:45] too many eskom-powered restarts [08:45] yip ive always said it ruins drives [08:46] my fault, I should've known to power it off [08:46] and I haven't got 3TB handy to copy everything off to [08:46] whew [10:12] Good morning [10:22] Hi Guys [10:23] morning all [11:43] hi nlsthzn [11:44] alo :) [12:10] hi [12:40] hi theblazehen SmilyBorg [12:48] Hi Kilos [13:22] hey all [13:23] anyone around on this lovely Sunday afternoon to help me fix my graphics (intel HD i3) on 14.10 that I screwed up all by my self? (preferably without a format lol) [13:27] digigram: apt-get reinstall? [13:27] theblazehen, reinstall what? [13:29] hi digigram [13:29] what happened is I had issues with WebGL, so went on a stupid spree and tried to install incompatible drivers [13:29] wow Kilos still around! [13:29] lol always [13:29] was outside in the sun a bit [13:29] problem is, can't remember what I installed, maybe let me look at history | grep install quick [13:31] digigram: should do everything [13:31] Hmm.. [13:31] Switch to arch? A lot easier :p [13:32] lol I should actually try it one day [13:33] Arch its just pacman -S xf86-video-intel [13:33] hi Merl1n [13:33] welcome to ubuntu-za [13:34] hmm... [13:34] I think where my issue came in, was I got the 14.04 intel driver and if I remember correctly, forced it to install [13:34] then just remove it man [13:35] I want to, but not sure how [13:35] find the package name first [13:36] then use aptitude remove or aptitude purge package [13:36] finding the package name is the part I have difficulty in [13:36] why did you use the 14.04 package [13:36] have you got synaptic installed [13:37] no I use apt [13:37] the you can see what stuff is installed [13:39] okay, and how would I know if I'm uninstalling the correct one (that needs to stay) or the wrong one (that needs to go) [13:39] you type in at the top of synaptic ati and it will show all installed packages [13:40] oh intel [13:40] just installing synaptic. Its the first time I run a Debian derivitive without using synaptic lol [13:40] it also has an option to fix broken [13:41] i like synaptic [13:42] also you should have typed in additional in the dash and it will show the correct packages and install them from there too [13:44] additional drivers had nothing, thats why I tried to be "smart" and then make a mess lol [13:45] ah [13:46] synaptic will give the option to completely remove or just remove [13:46] i wonder if there is an intel package like nvidia-current [13:47] doesn't seem like it [13:49] maybe intel-gpu-tools can help [13:50] otherwise just stick with the standard install [13:52] can't figure out how gpu-tools can help [13:52] and intel-linux-graphics-installer will only work up to 11.04 until they release the new driver [13:52] ai! [13:54] guess I'll sit with slow graphics until then lol [13:54] what pc is it? maybe google will find something or a bug report might enlighten us [13:55] Acer i3 laptop. But no, it worked perfectly (sans webGL though) until I messed about [13:56] what is it doing now [13:56] just slow or something broken [13:57] i go fetch sheep [16:40] afternoon peeps. we just did our bit for load shedding [16:47] h iK [16:47] hi Kilos [16:47] lol [16:47] * theblazehen hardly ever gets load shedding :) [16:47] lucky [16:48] last was >6 months ago :) [16:48] weve had 2 hours a day for about a week now [16:48] ouch [16:48] and 4 hours yesterday [16:49] wow.. [16:51] so like [16:51] I got married [16:51] ;p [16:51] congrats Symmetria [16:52] now dont start slacking [16:52] congrats Symmetria! [16:54] https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152696347705528.1073741832.554265527&type=1&l=f8efaaedc0 [16:54] traditional kenyan wedding :) those are the photos [17:02] hmm... [17:02] now storm decides i need more power off time [17:26] o/ [17:30] hi gremble [17:30] You fix ibid? [17:31] Nope. Spent most of the day sleeping or without electricity [17:32] ah [17:32] You? [17:33] not doing much, so no progress [17:41] hmm... [17:42] Kilos: hmm? [17:42] todays power offs killed my elementaryos drive [17:42] read error whan trying to boot [17:43] luckily running boot-repair from kde fixed it again [17:43] grrrr [17:44] power off ones when drives dont get to dock or whatever they call it is not good [17:45] off/on [17:49] hey theblazehen when you going to add your testimonial [17:49] they need to see we getting in new bloods i think [17:49] Kilos: now is a good a time as any I guess, got a link? [17:49] Maaz re-verification [17:49] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ZATeam/ReVerificationApplication2014 [17:51] ty [17:52] ty gremble [17:53] now i got a week to rev magespawn and some of the old hands here too [17:53] nlsthzn we getting there [17:54] How do I add it? Do I need a account? [17:55] um do you see edit at the top left [17:56] if not look in more actions for edit, if nothing get a launchpad account then youll be able to [17:58] ya, will need account [17:58] i think gremble also had to get one yesterday [17:58] i battled for weeks to found out how to edit [17:59] ah [17:59] once your browser remembers you at launchpad then it logs you in automatically when you can edit easy [17:59] ya [18:05] would be awesome if all the peeps that hangout here and use the mailing list made launchpad accounts and joined the ubuntu-za launchpad group - only official number we have on how many people the loco has in a sense [18:06] ask the list peeps to do that nlsthzn [18:06] ill nag here [18:07] :) I am now taking a quick shower and sleep for training tomorrow, should be home earlier than normal, will look to write a request then :) [18:07] night all [18:08] cool ty nlsthzn [18:09] sleep tight lad [18:13] ha digigram you still here, were you successful [18:14] Will see when I can restart later Kilos [18:14] good luck [18:14] thanx [18:14] if nothing else, I'll just wait for the drivers. Supposed to be released somewhere in Dec [18:15] you on unity hey? [18:15] this december? [18:15] I heard from a little birdy this December lol [18:15] pretty sure this is unity [18:15] maybe reinstall lightdm just for luck [18:16] you got the launcher panel on the left? [18:16] and purple background [18:17] yip. Decided to try it, used Mint with both Cinnamon and Mate for a long time now [18:18] and dont forget to come support us in 9 days time when we apply for revalidation as an official loco [18:18] unity isnt bad , just a bit heavy [18:19] bit lighter that kubuntu thpugh [18:19] but kubuntu is more stable imo [18:19] or stronger [18:21] KDE overall is better for me, but to heavy for my laptop. Next install I might go back to Cinnamon (or just install that here) [18:22] oh ya you can do that and choose on booting [18:26] might do that, but I'm trying to get used to Unity, no sense in dumping good stuff just because it's "different" [18:28] digigram: You're implying unity is good? [18:29] theblazehen, I'm saying I haven't been able to find the good yet, but maybe it's just because I like it to work in another way... [18:29] digigram: I dunno of anyone who has found the good in unity.. [18:29] lol theblazehen I'm sure the dev's like it [18:29] even if it is just them [18:31] "face not even a mother could love" I think that applies here? [18:33] Lolunity [19:04] Kilos, something worked it seems. The lagging is gone and even OpenSCAD loads my models again [19:04] thanx [19:44] unity is nice man [19:45] when it works well its great [19:45] im glad for you digigram [19:45] now dont forget us hey [19:46] especially the meet [19:46] hi gremble [19:46] oh digigram one day look at elementaryos [19:46] based on 12.04 and very fast [19:46] looks like a mac they say [19:47] whats news gremble [19:47] lol Kilos I'll try not to forget you guys :D. Will definitely add my testimony, but with my work schedule, meets are out of the question lol [19:47] at 10pm at night the meet digigram [19:48] we meet here after 9 then go to the official okes [19:48] I've tried elementary. It's nice, but I wanted to come back to basics [19:48] lol [19:48] when is that? [19:48] im learning elementary now [19:48] but still have a drive with unity on and one with kde [19:48] on the 16th [19:49] oh and ive got xubuntu somewhere too [19:49] im not keen on x so much [19:50] oh digigram when that driver comes out use aptitude to install it. [19:51] aptitude tells you if something aint good and gives options [19:51] also removes stuff that isnt needed [19:52] ohi superfly inet [19:52] you can only install the driver with intel's tool. Now that stops you if it's wrong, but if I remember correctly, I did something "smart" to bypass that lol [19:52] ai! [19:52] Maaz seen inetpro [19:52] Kilos: inetpro was last seen 23 hours, 12 minutes and 41 seconds ago in #ubuntu-za on freenode [2014-12-06 12:39:46 PST], and has been offline on freenode since 2014-12-07 06:19:41 PST [19:52] Lol hey Kilos :P [19:52] oh my the govt crashed again [19:52] Nothing much. Learning logic and watching Eddie Izzard [19:53] lol [19:53] I don't like XDE either [19:53] xde? [19:53] what be dis? [19:53] i just watched something on mnet, dunno the name but it was good [19:53] hi Kilos [19:53] xfce [19:53] lol xfce yes [19:53] dstv is probably the largest scam in South Africa [19:53] jelly brains here [19:54] Behind that car pyramid scheme that collapsed [19:54] jack ryan: shadow recruit Kilos? [19:54] we only got old mnet decoder [19:54] ya that [19:55] lemme see if i can find what the pro broke [19:56] superfly please try make it for the re-validation meet [19:57] and if you got 5 mins anytime in the next week look at the page [19:58] kk [19:58] when is the meeting? [19:59] on the 16th superfly at 22.00 [19:59] Maaz re-validation [19:59] Kilos: Huh? [20:00] ai! [20:00] now i forgot again [20:00] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ZATeam/ReVerificationApplication2014 [20:01] loadshedding has got the pro in its cold grip [20:02] the lights just came back on here. [20:02] been out since 8 [20:03] wb inetpro [20:03] bad news [20:04] they said on the news they have enough water and diesel for the next 3 days [20:04] i dont understand that but ya [20:05] shell and bp and all the other refineries have tons of diesel and the dams got spanne water [20:05] good evening [20:06] sorry Kilos, we're load shedding our servers now :-) [20:06] thats strange [20:07] now you big okes here decide on a time for our meet here before going to ubuntu-meeting [20:07] i suggest 21.30 [20:11] hi ThatGraemeGuy late night? [20:14] 'lo [20:14] yes doing an O/S upgrade for a client [20:15] aha [20:16] kilos they use PetroSA diesel.... and they are slooooow [20:18] there is no excuse for running out of diesel [20:18] they should keep at least a weeks supply on hand at anytime [20:19] and water. joe [20:20] sjoe as well [20:22] ok peeps i go crash now. sleep tight. see ya tomorrow [20:30] inetpro: ouch..
