hoouseHello all. I have been trying to be able to change workspaces with the mouse. I used to be able to simply slide the mouse and when it hit the edge it went into the next workspace. No longer. I tried changing the setting in Settings - window manager - advanced - second setting. I'm using Xubuntu 14.04.00:04
AgAudo you have more than one workspace enabled?00:05
hoouseAgAu: I do have two enabled.00:06
hoouseAgAu: I can change by clicking the taskbar workspace icon.00:06
hoouseAgAu: ..and by using ctrl-alt arrow.00:07
krytarikhoouse: So enabled "With the mouse pointer", and tried adjusting the "Edge resistance" there, I take it?00:12
hoousekrytarik: Exactly.00:13
chettikandathili am using xubuntu 14.10 in a laptop. and my touchpad is active when i type on the keyboard. is it possible to disable the touchpad when i am typing?01:35
pleia2chettikandathil: Settings > Mouse and Touchpad > switch device to your touchpad01:37
pleia2chettikandathil: that should give you a touchpad tab where you can select "Disable touchpad while typing"01:37
chettikandathilthanks a million. this feature should be turned on by default. i've been living with this for over a month.01:38
pleia2thanks for the feedback, I've never been a fan of it myself01:39
pleia2maybe my hands just stay far enough away frommy touchpad that it's not a problem :)01:40
chettikandathilyeah. depends on the size of the hand. and the touchpad placement on the laptop. also the way people types.01:41

akisbaizon: almost! any idea for my problem?10:45

baizonyou need a new battery?10:45
akisbaizon: no i dont need any. a month ago was working for a 1/2 hour and was pretty convenient in case of sudden power off.10:46
akisbaizon: so you think that the indiacator stopped at 49% because it is absolutely dead and not for any other system malfunction?10:48
baizonakis: yes, thats what i think10:48
baizonakis: so the indicator is even giving false information, because your battery is dead dead10:49
akisbaizon: ok. thank you for your opinion. do you think it is right to be the battery still connected on the board or should in disconnect it or it doesn't matter at all?10:51

dnmzHello, I've recently installed xubuntu 14.10. My computer is a dell latitude d630g, with a nvidia quadro nvs 135m gpu. When I connect my computer to a tv using a VGA cable, the only available resolutions are 640x480 and 320x240. I've tried using xrandr to add other modes, but with no success. I've also tried creating a monitor.conf file in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/, and changing the xorg.conf file all with no success.14:45

etwarriorHello everyone!15:42
Luyinhi15:43
etwarriorIs there a way to add another query in the sidebar menu of the file manager on xubuntu?16:22
etwarriorFor example: I wanted to add my school folder in that bar for quick-access.16:23
Luyinetwarrior: just drag&drop the folder there16:23
etwarriorLuyin: The folder just goes back to where it came from.16:23
etwarriorI'd like to put it in the "Places" section of the file manager.16:24
drc1) Click and hold on file/folder 2)Hold and drag to sidebar (dropping it in the <Places> section.16:24
Luyinetwarrior: are you sure the folder isn't there already?16:24
etwarriorLuyin: I don't see it...16:25
drcetwarrior: try moving it around in Places as you drag and drop.16:25
etwarriorExcept in the area I stored it.16:25
etwarriordrc: Tried earlier... not seeming to work.16:26
drcStart by trying to drop it at the bottom of the places...it should change from a "square outline" to a "line"16:26
etwarriorHm...16:28
etwarriordrc: It still doesn't seem to be working... Now, it lets me MOVE the file to another "place" from the sidebar.16:28
drcthe icon should also change from just a "hand" to a hand with a red arrow16:28
etwarriorIt changes from a hand to a hand with a whitish arrow16:28
drcok, different icons16:29
etwarriorDrc, can I message you?16:31
drcno16:31
etwarriorAlright.16:31
etwarriorLuyin: How about you?16:31
drcIt  belongs here in the channel so others can see and help/learn16:31
knomeetwarrior, please keep the support questions on the channel.16:31
etwarriorOkay.16:31
etwarriorI was going to ask to go into teamviewer if you were willing.16:32
etwarriorI understand though.16:32
etwarrior"Making a Link" doesn't work either.16:32
Luyinetwarrior: how about a screenshot? I can't imagine this doesn't work.16:32
drcetwarrior: I'm confused, what did you mean by "move"?16:33
etwarriorClicking the file, holding down the left click, and moving it with my mouse.16:33
drcoh...you are trying a FILE...I don't think you can, only a directory.16:34
drcIIRC16:34
etwarriordrc: It's a foler16:34
etwarriorFolder*16:34
drcNo idea then...Works for me (tm) and Luyin (apparently).16:35
drcThe only thing I can think of is the you are not dropping in the right place (it's picky)16:36
etwarriorHm... weird... could it16:36
Luyinetwarrior: files can't be dropped into the sidepane of Thunar16:36
etwarriorcould it be, because everytime I boot up the system I get all these pop up messages?16:36
drcTry moving it just under the trash can...the outling should change to a line.16:36
etwarriorAnd my screen is very shredded at first16:36
etwarriorsaying to report a problem?16:36
etwarriorLet's see...16:36
etwarriorLuyin: But it's a folder.16:37
drcI doubt it (that's looks like a separate problem)...this is strictly a thunar/fiel manaher thing.16:37
etwarriordrc: The file animates back to it's original location16:37
etwarriorafter dragging under the trash icon16:37
drcetwarrior: That only happens to me when I trying dropping somewhere it doesn't want to go.  Like I said, it's picky :)16:38
Luyinetwarrior: go to a terminal, enter "killall thunar", open thunar and try again16:38
drcDoes the box outline change to a line?16:38
etwarriorNot at all.16:38
drcDo you have a NETWORK in the sidbar?16:39
etwarriorYes.16:39
Luyinetwarrior: you might want to ask the question in #xfce too, there are more people in there. perhaps someone else has an idea. but try my terminal command first.16:41
drcThen the next thing I'd try is to zero out the thunar configs and try.  I'm not in Xubuntu at the moment, can someone direct him to the correct config folder in Xubuntu(to rename)?16:41
etwarriorLuyin: Oh, it said process not found...16:41
etwarriorI was using generic names though16:41
etwarriornow nothing popped up16:41
Luyinetwarrior: try again with capital "t" : Thunar16:41
etwarriorYeah it worked16:42
etwarriorlike I said16:42
etwarriornothing popped up after unchecking generic application names16:42
Luyinso problem is solved, you can add your bookmark to the places-pane?16:43
Luyindrc: might be this one: ./.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/thunar.xml ?16:44
Luyinsorry, ./ is ~16:44
drcLuyin: Yeah, I <think> that's the one (like I said, no in Xubuntu atm).   Close thunar, open term and rename that file, start Thunar and test.16:46
drcGot to run (and no, it's not the dog :)16:46
etwarriordrc: Haha! Alright, thanks brother.16:47
Luyinetwarrior: you know how to do that last?16:48
etwarriorLast command?16:48
etwarriorYeah just open the xfce term16:48
etwarriorNow it's telling me no process found again...16:49
LuyinI meant the last thing drc pointed you to, about renaming the file16:49
etwarriorOh?16:49
etwarriorYeah, just goto the folder and rename16:49
etwarriorright?16:49
etwarriorThunar.xml?16:49
Luyinetwarrior: correct, although you might want to learn how to do this in a terminal ;) but your choice16:49
etwarriorAlright, thanks... I'm going to take this in xfce16:50
Luyindrc: question goes on in #xfce now, if you're still interested17:17
drcOK, thanks I saw the log.17:18
InvictusHi, how can I get my laptop volume wheel to work? I am not able to change the volume by using it.19:48
holsteinhttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/LaptopSpecialKeys19:48
drchmmm...doesn't mention "wheel" (that I can see), but google "ubuntu 14.04 volume mouse" gives lots of hits, choose the one you want for the version of *buntu you want.19:55
holsteini was thinking "wheel" was a volume control, and not the mouse wheel.. like, a physical volume control19:56
drcWell, one of use was probably correct :)19:56
drcs/use/us/19:56
Invictusyes, its a physical wheel that reduces volume in one direction and increases in the other19:56
drcholstein: FTW :)19:57
holsteinInvictus: could also be, the wheel is broken. i had an old laptop with a wheel that was just an analog control, and it was broken19:57
Invictusit works in gnome shell :(19:58
holsteinInvictus: cool.. i cant imagine what isnt loading in xfce that you need, but the special keys should help you locate what you need.19:59
holsteini would use a live CD with gnome shell running, and stat killing processes i dont see in xfce/xubuntu19:59
Invictusahh I might have to try that20:00
Invictusholstein: oh I got it working using that article, just added it to keyboard shortcuts and the volume wheel works now. So thanks for that, but the notification doesn't come up, any idea how to get that?20:04
holsteinInvictus: same processs, really.. just identify waht you want, and test that you have it installed and working correctly20:05
Invictuswell, I read that it needs xfce4-volumed installed, which I have, but still no result, which is why I am confused20:07
holsteinInvictus: i konw what i woudl do. but, i actually work to remove those pop-ups20:07
Invictusholstein: everyone has different needs :)20:08
holsteinsure.. go for it!20:08
holsteinyou can add exactly what you like from gnome into xfce, if its supported20:08

Bweeze086to monitor the network?21:58
holsteinBweeze086: for what?21:58
holsteinBweeze086: i mean, for it to be helpful on a security level, you really need to know what you are doing..21:58
holsteinBweeze086: are you trying to monitor for amount? of traffic?21:59

ubottubmon (source: bmon): portable bandwidth monitor and rate estimator. In component universe, is optional. Version 1:3.2-1 (utopic), package size 42 kB, installed size 158 kB22:00
Bweeze086I've seen all those, I dont want to use anything other than whats in the default tool box22:00
holsteinBweeze086: bmon is in teh default repos22:00
Bweeze086I just thought someone in here would know how to use this little applet22:00
holsteinBweeze086: desktop specific distros dont ship, typically, with tools to do that, be default.. so, you should be open to installing something22:01
Bweeze086never mind, I just figured it out22:01
holsteinBweeze086: i use the commandline tools.. never tried that applet22:01
Bweeze086you put the actual divice you want to monitor22:01
