[18:12] jthan: I am a mutant hampster sent from teh future across the galaxy to impress and confuse you. how am I doing? [18:13] Meh. College is more confusing than people o the internet [18:13] Can be, depends on which course you're referring to [18:14] Well I haven't had time for any fun ones yet :-/ [18:14] I'm taking a geography class now that I really enjoy because it's small and discussion based and revolves around the environmental crisis. [18:16] the world as we know it is back to normal [18:17] the bear is happy :-D [18:31] Well this group seems pretty awesome. Is it mostly Philadelphia area? [18:35] Sadly. [18:35] And I only say that because I know for some in further areas where we are not, it is sometimes tough to attend events. [18:36] lvmer: Where abouts do you reside? [18:36] 10m south of the airport 0.0 [18:36] Oh. So Philly. [18:37] Well then you're in luck. [18:37] coincidentally :) [18:37] Hi. [18:37] Hey lvmer [18:37] lvmer: so we'll see you Saturday the 20th right? [18:38] that's actually probably a good day [18:38] lvmer: the invite has not gone out yet, but there's a linuxy/geeky social thing happening that day. [18:39] I want to go! [18:39] jonathanD: ah cool [18:39] jthan: I'll copy the ML when I send it out. [18:39] I won't actually be home yet. [18:40] jthan: oh :( [18:40] It'll be 11:30 in Blue Bell. We're getting food, probably around $15 a person. [18:40] I know :-/ Sorry. [18:40] JonathanD: ah you run the DE group too xD [18:40] lvmer: I don't run any groups, I just chill with a lot of them :P [18:41] I used to run the calendar for this group. [18:41] jedijf: btw, still have write access, don't know if that's an issue. [18:41] lvmer: I host events that people from various groups go to. [18:41] lvmer: like geeknics, and fosscon. [18:42] ah [18:42] jthan: only issue is nothing to write to calendar :( [18:42] jthan: soon though [18:42] lvmer: and I sorta help with PLUG too. [18:43] lvmer: you should join #plug btw. [18:43] jedijf: Yeah. Mostly did not know if it was a rule that I had to be active to stay on the calendar admin. [18:43] Maybe newb.... what is plug? [18:43] jthan: soon you will write Linux holiday get together in Blue Bell [18:43] On that note, I'll be pretty free for time in December/January beyond next week, so if you need anything on the calendar... :-p [18:45] lvmer: Philadelphia Linux Users Group. [18:46] man, really need to get my google skills back in check. I spent a fair amount of time in ubuntu-server and never thought there would be cool groups like this [18:47] That's how we all felt before we found here. [18:47] lvmer: there's actually a lot in Philadelphia [18:47] and around. [18:48] YES! [18:48] lvmer: join the loco [18:48] launchpad and then grep forums ml etc - get caught up in no time [18:49] lvmer: PLUG meets 3 times a month, there's also hive76, a hackerspace. [18:49] lvmer: start here: http://ubuntupennsylvania.org/ [18:49] recently upgraded to 14.04! ;) [18:50] and 12.10 is here [18:50] jedijf: gotcha [18:50] i need tosend you keys [18:50] pleia2: how was it, about to do the same [18:50] lvmer: read the apache upgrade info, otherwise smooth sailing [18:55] pleia2: gotcha, thanks :) [18:57] the tl;dr version is that sites-available files need to end in .conf now and my modules got a bit mixed up (had some trouble with mod_rewrite) === rmg511 is now known as rmg51 === teddy-dbear1 is now known as teddy-dbear [19:24] any bread making experience here? [19:25] ChinnoDog and I! [19:25] We used to banter about our bread all the time. [19:26] great [19:26] okay so i tried a batch with a good recipie [19:26] but i think the issue was the yeast [19:27] like, it didn't rise really [19:27] So.. both of us mostly use a live sourdough starter and therefore don't really have to "activate" our yeast.. But, yes... If it didn't rise, probably a time or yeast issue. [19:27] Did you keep it warm? [19:27] how? [19:27] how the heck am i supposed to know what 110 degrees is? [19:28] re: i waited an hour, punched it down and waited again for an hour [19:28] didn't really grow at all [19:28] the result was delicious but very dense bread [19:28] Meh, sometimes the second rise isn't as significant. Did it bake okay? was it really dense or what? [19:28] Ooh. [19:28] Yeah.. [19:28] the first one didn't really risee [19:28] Well, did you keep a warm/moist tea towel over the bowl? [19:28] any tips? [19:29] no what's a tea towel? [19:29] << total noob [19:29] Well, just any towel really. Like.. a dish towel [19:30] yeah [19:30] i used only 1/4 oz packet [19:30] Usually I'd knead my stuff, flop it into the bowl or dish, and then cover it with a moist towel or two even [19:30] This helps it hold some heat and moisture [19:30] How much yeast did it call for? [19:30] but it didn't really rise at all, so i think debugging this bread issue it's probably the yeast [19:31] matzo [19:32] 25g/1oz fresh yeast or 2 tsp eastblent (quick-rise) dry yeast [19:32] 2 1/4 tsp == 1/4 oz [19:33] It could just be bad yeast [19:34] i just got it ! [19:34] maybe it's bad... its best if used by 2016 though [19:35] i think it could be a temperature issue [19:35] like not hot enough to activate it [19:35] Just get a sourdough starter [19:35] That's some good stuff [19:37] mutantturkey: radiators in your house? my grandmother used to wrap and put the pizzelle dough on top of the radiator - philly rowhome proofbox [19:37] yes yes i do have thouse [19:37] jedijf: row home FTW [19:37] jthan: i am not crazy about sourdough [19:37] radiator heat for the nose/breathing win [19:38] mutantturkey: if you don't leave it sit as long as recipes call for, it can be pretty mild [19:38] i'm trying a specific swiss recipie my mum makes though [19:38] so [19:39] ....ask mum [19:39] i did [19:39] she says i'm a fool for trying [19:40] jthan: http://www.thefrugalgirl.com/2010/02/wednesday-baking-troubleshooting-yeast-bread/ [19:40] i read on the internet that... [19:40] my dough is too stiff? [19:40] i mean it was pretty stiff i think, the directions says it should be pulling of the bowl when you kneed it [19:40] Yeah, there should be some springiness to it [19:41] I think after you bake it, they mean [19:43] 'to a fairly firm dough whih does no tstick excessively to the hands or the bowl' [20:15] Meaning not so wet that it sticks to everything. [20:17] Wet dough will not only stick to everything but if you try to create a freestanding loaf without a mold it will sag until it is flat. [20:58] i love kneading dough [20:58] its a great way to deal with frustration [20:58] just beat it until it submits [22:12] https://www.eventbrite.com/e/plug-friends-mas-party-tickets-14889070611 [22:12] Party Thingy. [22:24] PACS Saturday :P [22:25] come by afterwards! [22:27] I'm there till 3pm [22:28] then I have to head home to relieve the babysitter [23:35] :* [23:35] :( [23:43] just eyes in the night [23:43] :
