[20:35] hi [20:35] o/ [20:37] welcome to the future [20:45] Is there any user of Ardour here? [20:45] I have used it, but I doubt I'll be very helpful [20:46] studio-user345: i use ardour [20:48] I am just asking because I've never used it really [20:49] studio-user345: its easy and free to try.. [20:50] What is your opinion about the plugins? [20:50] What is your opinion on the plugins it has? [20:52] studio-user345: let me put it this way [20:52] studio-user345: i invested a *lot* of time migrating from windowsxp/cubase to linux/ardour [20:52] studio-user345: i feel like someone bought me a new studio, and all i changed was the software [20:52] studio-user345: the plugins are as advertised [20:53] they either meet your needs or not [20:53] *all* commercial plugs and software *can* be written for ubuntu/linux.. its all open [20:53] if the tools you need/want are not here, they are not here.. [20:53] its completely free and easy for you to freely and easily use and audition *all* the tools.. with *no* limiations [20:54] there is no "ubuntustudio" or "ardour" companies making sure all your hardware works well together, and all the plugins are supported, etc [20:54] you cannot compare the tools on that level.. [20:56] Thanks, I have completed the installation so I have to reboot. Then I connect again [21:20] hi again holstein. Are you still there? [21:21] user345: yes.. [21:23] Vst plugins can be installed in ardor? [21:23] user345: nothing is preventing *anything* from being installed anywhere [21:23] but, there are some issues with what you are asking [21:23] one.. ardour is the DAW.. so, you dont "install" plugins into it [21:24] if you are taking vst's made for another operating system, and expecting them to work in linux, they may not [21:24] i suggest, just start similarly as you did in windows [21:24] imagine the first day you used windwos [21:24] ok [21:24] you didnt load up a large daw, and add plugins intended for a completely different OS [21:25] try using the default, simple, included tools [21:25] !proaudio [21:25] For information on professional audio tools in Ubuntu, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuStudio/ProAudioIntro [21:30] thanks again, I have to setup first a firewire hardware so I have a work to do [21:30] user345: as a firewire user, i suggst *not* using it at first [21:30] i say, unplug it.. and just use the internal audio [21:30] get used to using jack, and the tools.. dont do so much at once [21:31] again, remember, you didnt install windows, and the first day, runa DAW and an audio subsystem, and learn the os, and install a firewire device, etc [21:34] It's good advice, whatever you do just do one thing at a time [21:34] user345: i actually just installed linux on a laptop, and used it for like a year.. before doing the audio migration [21:34] user345: also, try #opensourcemusicians
