[10:46] yo [10:46] morning popey === zmoylan-1i is now known as zmoylan-pi [11:54] popey: what is the systemd conversion sprint? [11:54] *when [11:54] 16/17 jan i think [11:55] are you going to convert user session packages? [11:55] https://plus.google.com/u/0/107564545827215425270/posts/Fenok4AFeAb [11:55] me personally, no. [11:55] i mean ubuntu in general [11:55] pitti is the best person to ask [11:55] he leads the systemd migration [11:55] is it still planned to use upstart as session init? [11:55] pass [11:55] the reason i ask is because we use upstart in xubuntu and it is really bad [11:55] i have heard mention of replacing that but dont know when [11:56] for example, it starts services multiple times for no reason [11:56] yeah, poke pitti [11:56] i would really like to get away from using it, but we rely on it for the indicator services [11:56] (which also happen to be the same ones it starts multiple times for no reason) [13:58] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wabStOmmzMI === MooDoo is now known as Guest75505 === marxjohn1on is now known as marxjohnson === ali12341 is now known as ali1234 [18:46] evenin everybody [18:47] evenin knightwise [18:48] hey penguin42 , how are you doing today [18:49] not too bad [18:49] evening knightwise [18:49] hey bro [18:50] I got me an old 15 inch TFT display at the trift store , hooked it up to my Pi and am going to use it as my 'main machine' for a couple of days. [18:50] * knightwise is working on an article about running linux on slower machines [18:50] :) [18:51] i first connected my pi to an ancient high end monitor via it's scart connector as i don't have and hdmi monitors :-) [18:51] Cool ! :) Scart ! now thats something I hadn't thought about [18:51] I could have hooked it up to an old Tv here :) [18:51] but .. using it on an older 15 inch TFT is not bad actually [18:52] then you would've never read a single letter [18:52] the smaller screen does give you a lot more 'focus' on what you are working on [18:52] i had a frankencable which was vga one end and hdmi the other and had it work on laptops but the pi doesn't put out enough leccy to make it work so i had to get... creative [18:52] Currently running : Terminator ,split into 3 windows .. [18:52] Links up top (with Slashdot on it) [18:52] wordgrinder bottom right [18:53] and an ssh to my remote Vm running irssi on the left [18:53] it works pretty good actually [18:53] though my geekiest connection is still using a 286 with 640k running dos to connect to internet and browse the web... very very slowly :-) [18:53] zmoylan-pi: I bow down to you, master ! [18:55] ok , i'll be back in a tad, wife just made tea :) [18:55] earl grey .. hot [18:55] (not kidding) [18:56] "Fox orders a Minority Report TV pilot" - ooh-err [18:56] that's only taken them 10 years ish? [18:56] :D [18:57] wow, i'll feel old finding out what year that film came out [18:58] there was this tv show recently [18:58] with the guy who plays mccoy in star trek [18:58] Deforest something or other [18:58] he is a cop with a robot sidekick [18:58] no way :D [18:58] not deforest kelly [18:58] the Reboot-Mccoy [18:58] ooooh [18:58] but that Tv show had a LOT of minority report AND bladerunner winks in them. [18:58] so this is modern? [18:58] Yep [18:59] hrmm where'd you catch it? [18:59] bittorrent [18:59] ill look up the title , hold on , im on the pi remember [18:59] :D [19:01] allmost human [19:01] I highly highly recommend that show [19:02] ty sir! [19:02] for anyone else - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2654580/ [19:04] meesa gonna watch some Tv (read : Netflix) because we don't have any cable anymore .. Watching 'top of the lake' New Zeeland wallpaper porn with a cop story underneath. [19:13] hi all [19:31] gah this plugin is unresponsive [19:31] in ffox ALL the time [19:33] which? [19:46] on my new laptop [19:46] windows 8 i3..all the time flash is unresposnive [19:46] i know its not ubuntu [19:46] no, which plugin :P [19:46] its freaking annoying [19:46] ohh [19:46] flash [19:46] flash is fine on win8 here [19:47] hm [19:47] in ffox? [19:47] yip [19:47] v16 [19:51] delete flash, install chrome. :) [19:59] chrome is not the second coming everyone acts like it is [20:02] film time [20:02] picked up a few dvds from oxfam today myself [20:02] daftykins: maybe not. at least it lets me watch netflix without screwing around with wine and silverlight [20:02] daftykins: My experience is that both Firefox and Chrome go through bad patches, annoyingly sometimes they both go through bad patches at the same time [20:03] that's when you lapse and use opera :-) [20:03] ::spit:: [20:03] m0nkey_: mmm fair enough, but that's your platform choice ;) [20:03] i like opera!!! [20:03] penguin42: indeed :D +1 to that [20:03] i used to love opera but they've jumped the shark recently [20:04] whats wrong wih it now [20:04] now it's a knockoff of chrome [20:04] *with [20:04] yea [20:04] though i think it's fair to say that for a clean profile freshly opened, RAM usage is higher on a Chrome setup [20:04] took out a lot of the neat features [20:04] though i'm only able to comment on Windows there [20:04] opera used to be the swiss army knife of browsers. did a little of everything [20:05] i lways thought it was fast and less resource intensive than others [20:05] and i liked it:) [20:05] i never ran it [20:06] and i still depend on it on mobile as no other browser does half it's bag of tricks [20:07] rss, server side compression, sync bookmarks, don't drive moylan nuts with whizz bang pretty useless features... [20:07] can sync bookmarks on chrome [20:07] login and synch between devices [20:07] but that would involve using... you know... chrome :-) [20:07] ;] [20:08] and completely misses on the don't drive moylan nuts list of requirements. and google killed their rss thingy [20:08] ah ye reder [20:08] i use feedly [20:09] on mobile i use the builtin in rss of opera, at home i use newsbeuter [20:09] on the pi [20:09] you can sync on firefox too but you need a firefox account which has no other purposes [20:09] mapps: sync you say, is that like firefox sync? ;) [20:09] firefox also has built in rss [20:09] (i don't even use it XD) just pretty fair to say they have feature parity these days, for the most part [20:10] but is incredibly slow on android i find, and won't run on dumbphone :-) [20:10] yes, firefox on android is terrible [20:10] i thought about setting up firefox sync on my own host once, but never got around to it [20:10] well [20:10] and isn't too fast on desktop with 1gb of ram [20:10] tou login to your gmal ac basically [20:10] lol desktop with 1GB RAM :P what *is* fast, thoughts coming to mind of being thrown on the scrapheap? :D [20:11] well no modern browser is going to be fast in 1gb [20:11] qupzilla zips along [20:11] midori isn't too shabby either [20:11] /lite/ browsers [20:11] but they are barely browsers [20:12] they work well enough, have adblock, play the occasional java game [20:12] i'm quite chuffed with my latest silly image, for any Battlestar Galactica fans out there - https://www.dropbox.com/s/x808ztxk7b0jsfw/toaster.jpg?dl=0 [21:06] daftykins: i'm a fan, but i'm afraid I dont get the context of your picture [21:10] yeah it was too vague i guess :( "fracking toasters" [21:10] aah [21:10] * knightwise gets it [21:12] :D
