NexiaHi , I'm getting a "[Errno 28]No space left on device" error in the Kubuntu 14.10 installer. I'm re-installing kubuntu in a dual boot for the record, and everything looks fine in he manual disk setup, but I get this error :/13:23
Nexiaafter that installer also crashes. (and onto of that getting a  "error: file '/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod' not found. error, so I can't access win 7 either)13:24
BluesKajNexia, are you using auto partitioning, if so I suggest you try manual to make sure the OS installs to the correct partition13:32
NexiaNo, I'm using manual13:32
BluesKajNexia, so you're choosing the ext file partition and choosing change then ext4 and then / as the mountpoint?13:34
NexiaBluesKaj: I just deleted all of them (except swap) into free space and re-created the first time13:34
Nexiathe second time, I did what you said, just re-using each partion and setting filesystem and mountpoint13:35
BluesKajNexia, deleted all of ?13:35
Nexiaall the existing ext4 partions like /, /home, /boot13:36
BluesKajNexia, all you need is to install to / , there's no need for boot parrtition, and all you had to do with /home ios reset the mountpoint13:38
Nexiaok, I'll skip /boot, thx13:39
NexiaBluesKaj: should it be primary or logical ?13:41
BluesKaj  / is always primary13:41
Nexiaoh ok13:42
Nexiai mean in the create a new partition menu13:42
BluesKajNexia, how many primaries do have on the HDD?13:45
NexiaBluesKaj: 1?13:47
* Nexia does not know13:47
BluesKajNexia, check the partition properties13:50
Nexiaah, I thought you were talking about both my windows and these new linux partions13:51
BluesKajyes  I am13:52
Nexiacan't check that in the installer ..13:52
Nexiathere's no "partition properties" as far as I can see.13:52
Nexiaonly these "add change, delete" buttons..no right click context menu eitherr13:53
ArtooDetooNexia: can you press Ctrl+Alt+F1 or similar to get a shell?13:54
BluesKajyou can assume it's primary if the partition is not extended or logical13:54
Nexiacan't figure how to tell that either from just looking :P13:55
BluesKajtry to install to the partition you used as / , if you still have a /home then just reset the mountpoint and continue13:59
Nexiameh, re-did them again just to be sure14:01
Nexia8 gigs swap first (logical), now 87 GB primary /, and rest /home logical...14:01
BluesKajok14:02
BluesKaj87G for / is bit large , 20G is plrnty ..I ususually use 1514:03
BluesKajerrplenty14:03

BluesKajif your logicals are under an extended then you should be fine14:13
Nexia"The partition tables of the following devices are changed: SCSI1 (0,0,0) (sda)"14:13

SomeguyoutthereKubuntu 14.10 Live system. Attempting to run partitionmanager as root produces a warning message "No usable devices could be found. ", and emits "Error: "/var/tmp/kdecache-kubuntu" is owned by uid 999 instead of uid 0." on StdErr. What's going on, and will it persist if I install?14:37
SomeguyoutthereOh, and of course it doesn't actually run.14:37
yossarianukhave you tried it as sudo Someguyoutthere:14:44
Someguyoutthereyossarianuk: Yes, I ran "sudo partitionmanager".14:45
SomeguyoutthereThere is more lines to StdErr: "Object::connect: No such signal org::freedesktop::UPower::DeviceAdded(QDBusObjectPath)" and "Object::connect: No such signal org::freedesktop::UPower::DeviceRemoved(QDBusObjectPath)".14:46
lordievaderSomeguyoutthere: Is dbus running?14:47
Someguyouttherehm.14:47
SomeguyoutthereBoth "kubuntu" and "root" have a running dbus-daemon14:48
SomeguyoutthereInterestingly, attempting to run Partitionmanager without root privileges will still produce the warning message and the two "Object..." lines, but not the "Error: "/var/tmp/kdecache-kubuntu" is owned by uid 999 instead of uid 0." message on stderr.14:50
SomeguyoutthereI'm not actually familiar enough with KDE/Kubuntu setups to make sense of this though, I'm more of an XFCE guy.14:50
yossarianukcheck there are no processes (ps aux |grep part)14:52
yossarianukthen try again from the kde menu14:53
SomeguyoutthereIt's not running, and it still fails from the KDE menu.14:54
NexiaBluesKaj: so it worked, buuut14:54
Nexiagrub menu not showing up now ;-;14:54
Nexiadirectly boots to Kubuntu.14:55
SomeguyoutthereIte seem to take quite a while of give up though after to shows the error message.14:55
SomeguyoutthereI don't know what's up with that.14:55

Noah____most of my functions return as unauthorized16:18
BluesKaj_Noah____,  which "functions" ?16:21
Noah____BluesKaj: connecting to Wifi, mounting flash drives, etc16:21
Noah____BluesKaj: I think it has to do with the fact that I was trying to upgrade to 14.10 several times but failed.16:22
BluesKaj_Noah____, did you update, upgrade and dist-upgrade the packages before trying to upgrade the OS/16:26
Noah____BluesKaj_: Yes, yes, and no. I was afraid to dist-upgrade because the last time I ran it it said it would remove key packages16:27
BluesKaj_Noah____, it removes old versions no longer required16:28
BluesKaj_and you also have to disable the lts only setting in the update manager16:29
BluesKaj_err LTS only16:29
Noah____BluesKaj_: That last message had me confused. Do I change it bact to LTS once I'm updated?16:30
BluesKaj_no16:31
Noah____BluesKaj_ what did u mean?16:32
=== mano is now known as test12wqewqd
Noah____BluesKaj_ u there?16:34
BluesKaj_you can update, upgrade and dist upgrade with LTS enabled , then turn it off and upgrade to 14.10\16:34
BluesKaj_assuming you are using 14.0416:35
Noah____BluesKaj_ I was already at 14.0416:35
Noah____BluesKaj_ nevermind16:35
Noah____BluesKaj_ but now I can't even connect to wif16:35
Noah____BluesKaj_ but now I can't even connect to wifi16:35
BluesKaj_so what are you using atm , Noah____ ?16:36
Noah____BluesKaj_ What is atm? so how can dist-upgrade download the packages?16:36
BluesKaj_at the moment16:36
Noah____BluesKaj_ I am dual booted so I am using Windows.16:37
BluesKaj_Noah____, sudo apt-get dist upgrade may or may not upgrade your packages depending how recently you used the command16:37
BluesKaj_err dist-upgrade that is16:38
Noah____BluesKaj_ If I could give the plasma shell to use root, then I could maybe connect. I'll try that, and what you said.16:38
Noah____BlueKaj_ ALso, how the update failed was this: it would go through the process. Gave me an error of unverifiable packages. clicked ok. Gave a check then a red x next to getting new packages, then closed itself.16:39
Graf_WesterholtNoah____, root is never a good idea.16:39
BluesKaj_Noah____, then run sudo do-release-upgrade to upgrade to 14.10 with LTS upgrade disabled because 14.10 is not a LTS release16:40
Noah____Graf_Westerholt: unfortunately I am having permission issues with my user so I can't even connect to wifi. I need wifi to download packages that are needed.16:40
Noah____BlueKaj_ after or before dist-upgrade16:41
BluesKaj_after16:41
Graf_WesterholtNoah____, if you have permission problem, I would say you better reinstall Linux.16:41
Graf_WesterholtInstalling Linux takes ten minutes.16:41
BluesKaj_Graf_Westerholt, lets wait til he finishes the commands i gave him first16:42
Graf_WesterholtI think using root in a wrong way could make more trouble.16:43
Graf_WesterholtTen minutes for a new, working Linux.16:43
BluesKaj_Noah____, just use your user permissions not as root16:43
Noah____BluesKaj_ OK Graf_Westerholt: Unfortunately I cannot boot from cd for some reason. :P Gonna do what BluesKaj_ said. BTW: BluesKaj_ you still have a BluesKaj session and tab complete always goes to that.16:44
Graf_WesterholtNoah____, you do not need a CD/DVD, you can boot from flash.16:44
Noah____Graf_Westerholt: same thing16:44
Graf_WesterholtNoah____, are you sure you set your PC to boot from flash?16:45
BluesKaj_yeah , I'm away on my other pc...makes no diff i still see the highlighted nick16:45
Noah____Graf_Westerholt: Yep. I select flashdrive and it just boots to grub16:45
Graf_WesterholtNoah____, buy a new PC. How did you install your OS?16:46
Noah____Graf_Westerholt: I installed kubuntu via cd. And I dont have enough money for a new pc.16:46
BluesKaj_Graf_Westerholt, stop that ..buy a pc16:47
Noah____Graf_Westerholt: I don't have time to get into the boot problems. hopping over to kubuntu now16:47
Graf_WesterholtNoah____, did you do the CD/DVD/flash to boot  from correctly? Not just copy the iso to it?16:47
Noah____Graf_Westerholt: Yes i did. If I hadn't it wouldn't have booted. I have had Kubuntu for months now. hopping over to kubuntu now16:48
BluesKaj_Noah____, use dd to copy the image to usb http://askubuntu.com/questions/59551/how-to-burn-a-iso-to-a-usb-device16:49
Noah___BluesKaj_ I am here on another computer. A new problem arose. I am using this for a while and then I will go back to my other computer.17:11
BluesKaj_Noah___, I assume your other pc is the one you are upgrading to 14.10.17:12
Noah___BluesKaj_ Yep17:12
De8dSh0td17:50
nesciuswhere is Kubuntu plasma5 channel?18:00
nesciusI have installed it to test my issues with uhd screen, they fixed it there already.. but I have a problem now where my cursor disapears untill restart of X server, this happens seldom but KDE is then unusable.18:01
nesciusI guess I need to know which process is responsible for drawing cursors in KDE18:02
mparillonescius: The Kubuntu Developers hang out on #kubuntu-devel, but you may have better luck on #kde or #plasma18:15
