havenHi, I have a question about Ubuntu 14.10 torrent downloads and hashmarks.  I have downloaded Ubuntu Studio 14.10 64-bit via BitTorrent twice, and I got the same hashmark both times, but it doesn't match the MD5SUMS listed on the page02:39
havenIt seems odd to me that it would get the same wrong hashmark twice in a row.02:44
coelebshaven: are you sure it's md5suns and not some other hash?02:49
havenGood question.  Yes, it's md5sums02:50
coelebsweird. i thought bittorrent would auto correct file02:51
Unit193It checks hashes, so of course it does.  Where did you get the md5sum exactly and what torrent?02:52
havenWell, let me rephrase that.  On the Properties screen of Transmission, it's listed as a "Hash" and I checked the MD5SUMS.  I looked at the other hashes on the Ubuntu Studio page and they looked completely different.02:52
coelebsyou didnt run md5sums yourself?02:53
Unit193haven: That'd likely be the infohash..02:53
havenHmm...interesting.  Let me try running md5sums and see02:54
havenactually, i'm trying to remember how to run md5sums.  I know i did it with a separate install but don't remember how now.02:56
Unit193md5sum file.iso02:57
havenin terminal mode?02:57
havenit keeps on telling me there's no such file or directory03:05
havenoh wait, I got it.03:07
havenit matches.  Thanks for your help!03:09
Unit193Sure thing. :)03:19
exxxithello everyone! I´m getting an error while updating. The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available. 15 of these messages actually. any help on fixing this please? thanks03:37
holsteindelt: you may need both03:49
holsteindelt: i would expect issues, and workarounds as gtk changes03:49
Unit193exxxit: Did you add any extra repos/ppas?03:49
holstein!ppa03:50

hdUbuntu Studio 14.10 are operating nicely.08:32
delthello18:38
delti think my laptop has a slight problem with localization....18:38
deltat least xfce4-terminal... take a look: http://www.deimos.ca/miscjunk/xfce4-terminal-locale.png18:39
holsteinyou mean, your xfce4-terminal settings? delt ?18:40
holsteini know, one thing i do is use terminator.. i think most folks have a favorite term emulator18:41
deltterminator?18:41
deltxfce's term has always worked great for me.18:41
holsteindelt: ok18:41
deltbut i'm open to trying out others =) of course18:42
holsteindelt: i thought you were demonstrating a point where its actually *not* working well for you18:42
holstein!info terminator18:42
ubottuterminator (source: terminator): multiple GNOME terminals in one window. In component universe, is optional. Version 0.97-4 (utopic), package size 234 kB, installed size 2049 kB18:42
delthaha, you are right as always my friend :D i forgot to mention that slight little detail18:42
holsteinim not sure if you are openting a file there, or typing? or parsing, piping..18:43
deltok, gonna check it out..... i'll be back (get it :D )18:43
holsteinlooks to me like an error message about a file..18:43
deltoh in that screenshot, compiling18:43
holsteincompiling what?18:43
deltxfce stuff18:43
holsteinyou are compiling xfce4-terminal? why?18:44
deltno, not terminal18:44
holsteinanyways, where ever you get the "source" for that will be responsible for the support18:44
holsteinwe dont even directly change anything in the repos..18:44
holsteinall the xfce stuff just comes into studio18:44
holsteinthats the "rub".. if you want to use other software than what is in the repos..18:44
deltsee, i'm currently working on implementing "zoom" (old mac) style window animations to xfce's window manager18:45
holsteinsure..18:45
holsteinexpect issues as you change large parts of the system from the default versions18:45
deltthose little animations that show you where a window is "going to" or "coming from" when you minimize, close, open, etc...18:45
holsteinsure.. i always just use something with compositing.. a "plugin".. or a window manager that just does what i want18:46
deltlike i was telling you a while ago, i installed linux on my parents laptop, because they were sick of windows always crashing.. but sometimes they were confused about where to click to get a window back, or stuff like that.18:46
holsteinsure18:46
holsteinso, try something more like what they had18:46
holsteinmate18:46
holsteinthere would be "training" involved in even a newer version of windows..18:47
deltso, after my neighbour asked me to fix stuff on his mac, i was "inspired" to try installing a modified osx on my laptop (didn't work very well) then on my desktop machine18:47
deltso, these nifty little animations in osx reminded me of the good old days where i was a teenager composing music on a mac plus :D :D :D18:48
holsteinsure18:48
deltand i thought... hey, why doesn't xfce have those?18:48
holsteinthere are default distros that just do that18:48
holsteindeepin, etc..18:48
deltyeah, kde, etc etc18:48
holsteindelt: xfce doesnt have them... thats all18:48
deltbut i like xfce18:48
deltuntil now18:48
holsteindelt: if you want to hack at it, you can, and you will likely break it pretty badly, and make it run unstable/slow18:49
delti'm working with the guys in #xfce-dev18:49
holsteini would go to a rolling release with the most current versions of xfce, and go from there18:49
holsteindelt: sure, but you are not working with a distro that has those packages18:49
delti took several (bad) approaches, now i think i'm (mostly) on the right track....18:49
deltit's a good thing for me to work on this project, because my C was kind of rusty (since the college days i hadn't been actively coding)18:50
holsteinthe issue will be, when you change a lot of xubuntu/ubuntu/ubuntustudio around.. you cant get support in the ubuntu community, becasue you are not using ubuntu anymore..a nd you cant get support at xfce, since, you are using the unstable packages..18:51
holsteinnot that thats a big deal for a "power user", who keeps things backed up.. but, giving a system like this to a new linux user could be quite bad.. with an unstable UI..18:51
deltyeah i know18:52
deltbut i'd be really glad if my zoomanim stuff makes it into the next version :D or maybe it will take a bit longer until it's reviewed, alpha/beta tested, and considered stable enough to be part of the main xfce branch18:53
holsteindelt: if its implemented, it will be implemented18:53
holsteindelt: you have many ways to make what you want zoom..18:53
delt....?18:53
delt13:51 < holstein> delt: if its implemented, it will be implemented18:53
holsteindelt: correct18:53
deltdunno if i understand what you meant.18:53
holsteindelt: you want zoom.. and thats *great*.. but, you dont have to wait around on xfce to implement it18:54
holsteinwhen i wanted zoom, i put compiz back on.. and used that18:54
holsteini also, after that, used a few other compositors with zoom18:54
deltbut i want xfce to have zoom, so i started coding18:54
holsteinworked fine.18:54
holsteinsure. the issue is, others dont18:54
deltthat's why i added settings to enable/disable it18:55
deltand they are off by default on a new/default install18:55
deltright now i'm futzing around with having the notify and indicator panel plugin add an Xproperty to the root window, to map icon geometries to WM_CLASS names18:56
deltwithout stepping on each other's toes (ie. overwriting what the other is putting there018:57
delt)18:57
deltwaiting for the main xfce dev/maintainer to add a function to the api... someone else is also (he wants to implement window thumbnails)18:57
delts/api/compositor api/18:58
deltanyway, back to coding... thanks very much for your help/input/opinions19:00
delt(and no, i'm not installing compiz on my parents laptop)19:00

Unit193This should do it: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ChangeTTYResolution20:41
xxaviUnit193: don't work this solution for me20:47
holsteinxxavi: do you have a question that i can help you with?21:21
studio_hy21:24
xxaviholstein: yes; how can I change the TTY resolution ?21:33
holstein!tty21:34
ubottuTo get to the TTY terminals 1-6, use the keystroke ctrl + alt + F1-F6 respectively (Alt+F7 will get you back to your graphical login).  To change the resolution for your TTY, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ChangeTTYResolution21:34
holsteinxxavi: the link Unit193 shared is where i would start..21:34
holsteinif it didnt work, i would share an error, or a message..21:34
xxaviubottu, holstein: simply that solution ( https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ChangeTTYResolution ) don't change the resolution21:36
ubottuxxavi: I am only a bot, please don't think I'm intelligent :)21:36
Unit193Care to share /var/log/boot.log ?21:38
xxaviUnit193: http://pastebin.com/YeH00P0C23:32
