lo0k3rHey guys19:00
lo0k3r   I am currently having trouble with the intel 965 chipset. When launching chrome the screen will go black and the system seems to be unresponsive. I have looked and found only questions on this issues. We have a deployment of laptops with this distro on them and need to make sure they are functioning on this platform properly.   Disabling Hardware acceleration dose not work.19:00
lo0k3r Sorry if this has been covered already but I was unable to locate a fix Any help is greatly appreciated19:00
lo0k3rchrome and cant figure out19:00
lo0k3rplease any input is valuable19:01
BluesKajlo0k3r, ok , your gpu driver is most likely the i915, check by doing this command in the terminal, glxinfo | grep OpenGL , the "version string" will show the driver19:11
BluesKajlo0k3r, and which chrome version are you running ?19:13
lo0k3rBlue one moment19:14
lo0k3rthx19:14
lo0k3rchrome: Version 40.0.2214.9119:15
lo0k3rand the prob may effect 915 and 96519:16
lo0k3rsetting up on a 915 now to check19:16
lo0k3rbut my question so far focuses on 965 unless incorrect19:16
BluesKajlo0k3r, ok that's the most recent chrome version, the 965 chipset includes the gpu which is most likely a 4000 series19:17
lo0k3rwhen launched to screen gos black have you heard of this before?19:18
BluesKajthe 3000 to 5000 series of graphics chips use the i915 driver19:19
lo0k3rso the wrong driver may be installed nativly19:19
BluesKajlo0k3r, sounds to me like a corrupted chrome install19:20
lo0k3rhappens on all systems from diffrent people/sources19:20
lo0k3rwill see if 915driver may help19:20
lo0k3rbut what about the 96519:20
lo0k3rlspci shows 96519:21
BluesKajlo0k3r, i doubt the wrong gpu driver is installed , I think it's more likely the browser since you haven't mentioned any other graphics problems19:21
BluesKajlspci shows the hardware not the driver19:22
lo0k3rall sorts of people are experiencing this19:22
lo0k3rahh19:22
lo0k3r thanks19:22
lo0k3rhere is pos bug track for this https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/140485819:22
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1404858 in Linux Mint "Graphics Crashes to Black Screen (intel gm965 integrated graphics chip)" [Undecided,New]19:22
lo0k3ryes i know its mint19:22
lo0k3rubuntu19:23
lo0k3rneed to solve this bad19:23
BluesKajlo for the driver in use: lspci -nnk | grep -i vga -A3 | grep 'in use' , include the quotes19:23
lo0k3rhave asked ubuntu channel with no response about a 50 min wait19:23
BluesKajlo0k3r,^19:23
lo0k3ryes19:23
BluesKajare you running mint ?19:24
lo0k3rthe prob is within mint but because its based on ubuntu im asking everywere19:25
lo0k3rmint did not answer ether19:25
BluesKajdid you run the command i posted above ?19:25
lo0k3ryes mint is the issue sys19:26
lo0k3rin the process19:26
lo0k3ras all lots going on19:26
lo0k3rthx for you quick imput sir19:26
BluesKajthat command should just output one line19:27
lo0k3ri91519:28
BluesKajright so it is the correct driver, so the problem must be chrome ...remove chrome then reinstall it after downloading it from the google chrome site19:29
BluesKajI have to leave for about 20mins ..BBL19:30
lo0k3reffected sys is not on site looking to get that cmd ran on the effected machine thx for your help get at me when your back sir19:32

keithzgSo, how do I flush and rebuild Baloo's index? 16GiB is just too much :P21:13
keithzgI find lots of articles on how to disable Baloo, but I don't want to outright disable it, I just want to clear it and re-run the indexing now that I've added some folders to the excluded list.21:14
keithzgI had been hoping balooctl would have an equivalent of tracker-control's "--hard-reset", but it doesn't appear to. One of the few times I find myself wishing for a feature that GNOME has!21:16
keithzg(although I've only used tracker-control on my Qt-based smartphones, but that's another story)21:16
