When launching chrome the screen will go black and the system seems to be unresponsive. I have looked and found only questions on this issues. We have a deployment of laptops with this distro on them and need to make sure they are functioning on this platform properly. Disabling Hardware acceleration dose not work. [19:00] Sorry if this has been covered already but I was unable to locate a fix Any help is greatly appreciated [19:00] chrome and cant figure out [19:01] please any input is valuable [19:11] lo0k3r, ok , your gpu driver is most likely the i915, check by doing this command in the terminal, glxinfo | grep OpenGL , the "version string" will show the driver [19:13] lo0k3r, and which chrome version are you running ? [19:14] Blue one moment [19:14] thx [19:15] chrome: Version 40.0.2214.91 [19:16] and the prob may effect 915 and 965 [19:16] setting up on a 915 now to check [19:16] but my question so far focuses on 965 unless incorrect [19:17] lo0k3r, ok that's the most recent chrome version, the 965 chipset includes the gpu which is most likely a 4000 series [19:18] when launched to screen gos black have you heard of this before? [19:19] the 3000 to 5000 series of graphics chips use the i915 driver [19:19] so the wrong driver may be installed nativly [19:20] lo0k3r, sounds to me like a corrupted chrome install [19:20] happens on all systems from diffrent people/sources [19:20] will see if 915driver may help [19:20] but what about the 965 [19:21] lspci shows 965 [19:21] lo0k3r, i doubt the wrong gpu driver is installed , I think it's more likely the browser since you haven't mentioned any other graphics problems [19:22] lspci shows the hardware not the driver [19:22] all sorts of people are experiencing this [19:22] ahh [19:22] thanks [19:22] here is pos bug track for this https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/1404858 [19:22] Launchpad bug 1404858 in Linux Mint "Graphics Crashes to Black Screen (intel gm965 integrated graphics chip)" [Undecided,New] [19:22] yes i know its mint [19:23] ubuntu [19:23] need to solve this bad [19:23] lo for the driver in use: lspci -nnk | grep -i vga -A3 | grep 'in use' , include the quotes [19:23] have asked ubuntu channel with no response about a 50 min wait [19:23] lo0k3r,^ [19:23] yes [19:24] are you running mint ? [19:25] the prob is within mint but because its based on ubuntu im asking everywere [19:25] mint did not answer ether [19:25] did you run the command i posted above ? [19:26] yes mint is the issue sys [19:26] in the process [19:26] as all lots going on [19:26] thx for you quick imput sir [19:27] that command should just output one line [19:28] i915 [19:29] right so it is the correct driver, so the problem must be chrome ...remove chrome then reinstall it after downloading it from the google chrome site [19:30] I have to leave for about 20mins ..BBL [19:32] effected sys is not on site looking to get that cmd ran on the effected machine thx for your help get at me when your back sir === keithzg_ is now known as keithzg === alan_ is now known as Guest14857 === kubuntu is now known as Guest54203 [21:13] So, how do I flush and rebuild Baloo's index? 16GiB is just too much :P [21:14] I find lots of articles on how to disable Baloo, but I don't want to outright disable it, I just want to clear it and re-run the indexing now that I've added some folders to the excluded list.
