[13:50] hi [13:50] does someone here know how to boot ubuntu studio live in a mac book pro? [13:52] !mac | melodie [13:52] melodie: For help on installing and using Ubuntu on a Mac, see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MactelSupportTeam/CommunityHelpPages [14:27] thanks cfhowlett [14:27] melodie, happy2help! [14:28] :) [15:26] I have to do a backup of the data, I'll use the live session of ubuntu studio and rsync. Just wondering, the external usb drive is vfat : if I turn it into a Ntfs, is it ok with a Mac OS X system, as far as access is concerned? [15:27] I don't like vfat too much for an external usb drive, they don't take large files, and other things [15:27] what do you think? [15:46] forget my question, I got the answer, which is fat and nothing all. :) [15:53] melodie: hello [15:53] hi holstein you here! :) [15:53] this was actually one of the first places for me to be [15:55] so you are an expert? [15:56] i am one of the volunteers here, for sure [15:56] I would have a few basic questions related to mac book and mac osx, I don't have any knowledge, could you answer some very noobs ones? [15:56] melodie: sure.. but, this is for ubuntustudio [15:56] thanks [15:56] melodie: what questions do you have? [15:57] does a mac os x have the equivalent of multi user, admin user, and user without power? [15:57] and or guest account? [15:58] AFAIK [15:58] i would ask apple [15:59] when i setup apple machines, i set them up that way [15:59] but, i just search for what i need in the documentation and "make it so".. [15:59] mostly, setting up an appropriate user with permissions for FTP or ssh transfer locally.. [16:09] melodie, ask #osx [16:09] ? [16:09] eek. ignore me. sorry, holstein. [16:10] :) [16:14] Well, there goes my budget. Dell just officially announced the M3800 Precision Sputnik with ubuntu 14.04.1 :) [16:17] cfhowlett_: no worries, whats-so-ever ..glad you are here :) [16:19] woot! [17:25] Hi, he have a french support for Ubuntu studio ? Merci. [17:25] hulti_: ubuntustudio *is* ubuntu [17:26] Yes xD Sorry, have a good day ! :) [17:26] hulti_: no need to be sorry.. good luck, and welcome [18:25] hey there, i have ubuntu studio and want to change the default browser that opens when i click 'web browser' in the ubuntu menu on the task bar [18:25] is the entry for this in /usr/share/applications/defaults.list [18:26] tony__: i'll just use the GUI for it [18:26] i had set it through the gui [18:26] but since it's set it doesn't give a chance to change it [18:26] tony__: for example, when i add "chrome", i'll click the promt that pops up, and if it pops again, i'll ctick "dont bother me" or whatever [18:26] i want to switch it from chrome because for some reason chrome bogs down [18:27] holstein, ty for the responses btw [18:27] you can also use the terminal.. sudo update-alternatives –config x-www-browser [18:27] or, just remove chrome, if you dont want to use it.. [18:27] yeah, tried to avoid that but that's the route im taking [18:27] ty! [18:28] tony__: you can and should backup the config, regardless [18:28] so, you can reinstall the browser if you need [18:36] hello again [18:36] o/ [18:38] are you aware of two bugs in the live ubuntu studio 14.01.1? gksu is missing, and gparted can't be launched directly from the menus. It works with "pkexec gparted" from the console, and there is another program in the menus asking for gksu which isn't installed. [18:38] This is in Systems > Ubuntu Studio Controls [18:38] !bug [18:38] If you find a bug in Ubuntu or any of its derivatives, please file a bug using the command « ubuntu-bug » - See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs for other ways to report bugs. [18:38] dont assume a bug [18:47] holstein is there a command to seek for a specific bug with ubottu ? [18:53] melodie: sure [18:53] melodie: not with the bot, but, i just use the search there at lp [18:53] or, just google [18:53] but, you are not hitting a bug there [18:53] you can instal gksu or whatever you need.. and you can use gparted [18:54] you can, but not by using the menu entry, which is a non critical bug of course, yet when you start it and never see it appear it first feels strange [18:55] and for the second, it might not be critical either but it triggers an error message, and that does not look too nice when showing to someone. [18:55] it's just a matter of checking the desktop file [18:55] files* [18:56] at the Exec= line, you know [18:56] I'll try to check for bug reports in a moment === ubott2 is now known as ubottu [20:44] melodie: its not a bug, though.. [20:44] but, if you feel it is, i would file [21:26] holstein if it's easy and does not take you long, it could be a good idea [21:27] melodie: i dont consider it a bug [21:28] yes I get that holstein just I don't understand why it is not a bug in your opinion
