Nixusanyone having an issue where some icons aren't changing in the alt-tab menU?05:02
MeerkatI have a problem with xfdesktop that was not fixed with 4.11.8-0ubuntu0.1. When I log out/log in my desktop icons are moved to the top left, ignoring whatever placements I had before. In ~/.config/xfce4/desktop/ there is a new .rc file that doesn't seem to be used. And the one I do use has been updated with incorrect data.10:00

brainwashMeerkat: does this particular problem occur more often now with the new version?10:49
MeerkatI do not remember. I upgraded to this version a while back before it was added to the repos.10:52
brainwashthere is https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1126610:53
ubottubugzilla.xfce.org bug 11266 in General "[bug] Desktop icons order resets" [Major,New]10:53
brainwashwhich targets version 4.11.810:54
Meerkatwhat does that mean?11:05
brainwashwell, please read the bug report comment :)11:08
MeerkatI read all comments. Someone writes that they will revert commit where the bug was introduced. That was 2 weeks ago.11:11
brainwashyou could add a comment yourself and ask how things are going11:14
Meerkatnah, I'll just wait another 6 months. I don't feel like creating new email addresses and remembering yet another account.11:23
brainwashwe will contact the xfdesktop maintainer and try to resolve the issue soon (as fast as possible hopefully)11:28
inerkickHi friends. How to connect to Mobile broadband. Is it possible through network manager? or any other app13:14
inerkickwhen I connect my modem(dongle) it not shows options to connect hence ask13:15

recon_laphi all, trying to install xubuntu onto an old rack sever, getting a black screen after selecting the install language, any tips?15:54
recon_lap14.04 btw15:54
xubuntu150Hi, I need some help copying files and whole directories from a windows HD to a DVD16:06
xubuntu150I have a DVD drive and writable DVDs16:06
xubuntu150And I can access the windwos HD from the file manager16:07
xubuntu150No one there?  OK Thanks!16:07
rosaecaeruleaewould this work? sudo apt-add-key E6A17451DC058F4016:18
recon_lapis apt-add-key even a command?16:20
rosaecaeruleaei dont know, http://paste.ubuntu.com/9939248/ << thats what I need to fix16:21
recon_laprosaecaeruleae: you can probably make it ignore the error and force the install.16:23
rosaecaeruleaeFailed to fetch http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu/dists/trusty-getdeb/apps/binary-amd64/Packages  403  Forbidden << how do I fix that?16:36
recon_laprosaecaeruleae: not sure, but forbidden means the server replied but will not allow you access, maybe it's a problem on the mirror,16:43
recon_laprosaecaeruleae: maybe you should try a different mirror16:43
rosaecaeruleaetrying that16:45
rosaecaeruleaehow do I find a list of all unauthenticated sources? all I see is 2 403 errors16:53
rosaecaeruleaebut nothing regarding an unauthenticated source16:53
holsteinrosaecaeruleae: try using the officially supported repositories16:53
holsteinrosaecaeruleae: if you have issues with "getdeb.net", you'll have to ask them how that works..16:54
holsteinthem being, the providers/supporters of getdeb16:54
holsteinrosaecaeruleae: wow.. you are mixing sources.. utopic sources and trusty sources. thats a bad idea16:56
rosaecaeruleaeholstein, how do you know that?16:56
recon_lapright, going to try the text only install :)16:56
holsteinrosaecaeruleae: i suggest, remove/clean-up any packages you have installed from unsupported sources, and get "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" to complete without error.. then, address  your needs with repo packages when possible.. then, move on to ppa's or building from source.. etc16:57
recon_lapso much for that text installer, the one i downloaded it the same as the live cd17:29
holsteinrecon_lap: should end up with the same17:32
holsteinlet me look back to find your specific issue..17:32
holsteinrecon_lap: on a "rack server", could be as simple as the GPU drivers..17:33
holsteinrecon_lap: can you get a minimal, no x, server, headless install?17:33
holstein!mini17:33
ubottuThe Minimal CD image is very small in size, and it downloads most packages from the Internet during installation, allowing you to select only those you want.  The installer is text based (rather than graphical as used on the Desktop DVD). See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD17:33
holsteinrecon_lap: thats where i will start with an install on hardware that "Fails" to run a live environment, after i test the hardware17:34
recon_lapholstein: no internet connection to use here with it, might try that at another location though.17:34
holsteinrecon_lap: sure.. *dont* use the internet17:34
holsteinrecon_lap: just install the minimal environment, or the server, no-x environment.. try and isolate the system components out, and test them..17:35
recon_lapholstein: it's a question of not having the correct wires/plugs to connect it with17:35
holsteinrecon_lap: ok.. xubuntu wont be able to supplement the need for proper cables in any way.. expecting it to will just waste time17:36
recon_lapholstein: well, it is what it is, wish the bloody thing would just work though17:37
holsteinrecon_lap: if you want it to "just work", consider purchasing a product that promises linux support.. when you take hardware that is not intended to run linux, and not intended to be a desktop, and try "Re-purposing" it, it can be a challenge17:39
holstein!nomodeset | recon_lap17:39
ubotturecon_lap: A common kernel (boot)parameter is nomodeset, which is needed for some graphic cards that otherwise boot into a black screen or show corrupted splash screen. See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132 on how to use this parameter17:39
holsteinrecon_lap: i assume you have tried all the boot modes in that menu.. i will try all of them when trying to boot hardware i am unfamiliar with.. i want to see that live environment ASAP17:40
recon_lapholstein: I'm trying, takes forever to boot and easy to miss the option screens17:41
holsteinrecon_lap: sure.. i wouldnt expect this process to be time saving in any way..17:41
holsteinyou are fighting with something that potentially may not promise linux support, and, you are fighting the basic design of the product by trying to make it a desktop.. you will need a lot of hands-on troubleshooting and testing17:42

dchilanohi guys23:27
knomehello23:27
xubuntu24wHello. I have never asked for help in here, but here we go. The battery notification is greyed out in my panel. You guys know a fix?23:28
dchilanoI just downloaded NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-346.35.run23:28
dchilanohow do I install it?23:28
xanguadchilano: it is recommended to install the packages from ubuntu official repositories23:29
knomedchilano, why don't you use the drivers from the repository?23:29
dchilanohow do I do that?23:29
xubuntu24whttp://askubuntu.com/questions/18747/how-do-i-install-run-files23:30
knomedchilano, in the settings manager, check out additional drivers23:30
slickymasterxubuntu24w: If its greyed out, it means it must still be on a panel somewhere.23:30
dchilanothank you Knome23:30
slickymasterxubuntu24w: how many panels do you have? Have you checked the Items tab for each panel that you have to see if its there?23:30
xubuntu24wi only have one panel23:31
xubuntu24where is an image to reference23:31
xubuntu24whttp://postimg.org/image/x9jyczqm1/23:31
dchilanoKnome: in settings manager it says no additional drivers available23:32
knomedchilano, ok... so why do you think you need an additional driver?23:32
dchilanoKnome: I thought I had to manually install it for my nvidia gt74023:33
knomedchilano, if your system is working well (with the open source driver), you're good as is :)23:33
xubuntu24wSlickymaster -: the problem is not that it is greyed out in the panel manager, but the actual background of it is grey :S sorry for my bad explanation23:33
knomexubuntu24w, looks like a theme that doesn't support the gtk version you are running23:34
=== Guest21718 is now known as bazhang
slickymasterxubuntu24w, what knome said ^^23:36
xubuntu24whmmm, it is just standard Numix, i think xubuntu comes with it. I also tried changing the theme, and it didn't seem to fix it :/23:36
dchilanoKnome: I was watching a youtube video and it was choppy...So I thought it might be the video driver23:37
xubuntu24wIs there something i'm missing? btw thanks for the help hehe23:37
dchilanobut now I realize thats how the video was encoded :P23:37
dchilanoI just pulled up some 4k videos and they play splendidly23:37
knomedchilano, yeah... and while i think youtube does that by default now, you can make sure you are using the html5 player whenever possible at http://youtube.com/html523:39
xubuntu24wbump*23:40
knomexubuntu24w, no need to do that.23:40
xubuntu24wokay sorry, first time i'm in here :)23:40
dchilanoKnome: I believe youtube implemented html5 player by default now23:41
dchilanoor am i thinking of https with gmail?23:42
knomedchilano, as i said, i believe it's doing it already... but just to make sure.23:42
