Experiment-626I have a problem with my dual screen. I have a radeon graphics card using the additional drivers option. When I plug in my screen, it looks like the screens are not separating and bleeding into each other.02:26
Experiment-626has anyone seen this before?02:29
Experiment-626I tried to use a different resolutioned, VGA monitor on my laptop. It looks like it is not separating the screen and they are flickering/bleeding into each other. when I remove the dsub cable, everything goes back to normal. Can any one help me fix my problem?02:55
cmaloneyExperiment-626: Hello03:02
cmaloneyYou might want to check on askubuntu.com with the driver version number03:02
cmaloneyunfortunately I moved to a NVidia card a while ago because I didn't have good luck withthe Radeon drivers03:02
Experiment-626cmaloney: Thanks. I hope it is something easy.03:15
cmaloneyLikely a differnt driver version03:25
cmaloneyor perhaps the OSS driver might do the trick03:25

cmaloneyThis excites me15:10
cmaloneyI'd love to get my hands on a ZX Spectrum some day.15:10
cmaloneyAlso: in celebration of the Groundhog seeing his shadow we'll be having CHC tonight at 8pm15:15
cmaloneyhad the Groundhog not seen his shadow we would be having CHC tonight at 8pm15:15

cmaloneyThat's how highly we think of the groundhog. :)15:15
cmaloneydevinheitmueller: Yeah, I'm not payig 35Pounds to have one shipped to me. :)15:16
devinheitmuellerLife is full of choices.  :-)15:16
cmaloneyThey're rarer over here but they're C64-common in the UK15:16
cmaloneydevinheitmueller: Yeah, I know.15:16
cmaloneyI hope they show up like the ZX-81s I have: Someone cleaning out their house. :)15:17
cmaloneyAlso: deleted my eBay account. :(15:17
devinheitmuellerI sometimes miss my CoCo215:17
cmaloneyI still have my Atari 800 / 800XL15:17
cmaloneyThose were my teething computers15:18
cmaloneyI managed to destroy the 400, much to my father's complete chagrin15:18
devinheitmuellerMy NYC apartment has no space to store such things.15:18
cmaloneydevinheitmueller: Yeah, I know the feeling15:18
cmaloneythese are at my parents place15:18
devinheitmuellerAh15:18
cmaloneyand they're getting itchy to not have the Craig Maloney memorial computer museum much longer15:18
cmaloneySo when the weather breaks some of these are getting "emulated"15:19
jrwrencmaloney: i had a garage sale zx spectrum back in 87 or so.15:19
cmaloneyaka: donated to the A2 computer game museum15:19
cmaloneyjrwren: That's awesome15:19
devinheitmuellerNice.15:19
jrwrenthe atari 800xl was WAY more powerful and fun to write BASIC on15:20
jrwrenthe BASIC on the zx was pretty lame.15:20
cmaloneyYeah, I'm not looking for it as a work machine15:20
cmaloneyThough JoDee works with a guy that wrote a paper for college and did his calculations using a ZX with basic programs15:20
cmaloneyNot sure if ZX80 or 8115:21
cmaloneyRegardless, he has even more of my respect.15:21
cmaloneyAtari Basic was awesome15:21
cmaloneyHad arrays that were closer to C than Microsoft Basic15:22
cmaloneywhich meant you had "fun" converting strings from MS Basic to Atari Basic15:22
cmaloneyNot impossible, but they worked way differently.15:22
jrwrendude, 8 bit calculations... that is NOT a good idea.15:23
jrwrenit doesnt 'do floating point, does it?15:23
cmaloneyjrwren: It was the tool he had15:23
jrwrenwhat year was it?15:23
cmaloneyI'll have to ask him next time I see him15:23
jrwrenI'm pretty sure the BASIC on it didn't have a bignum implementation.15:23
jrwrenbut I could be wrong.15:23
cmaloneyyeah, I'm pretty sure the ZX series had the most basic of floating point15:24
jrwrenI mean, "did his calculation" - maybe he wrote his own bignum and or float and or fixed point impl, which means, that is pretty sweet.15:24
jrwrencmaloney: really?  in hardware or in software? either way, I highly doubt it.15:24
jrwren1 X=25515:24
jrwren2 X=X+115:24
jrwren3 PRINT X15:24
jrwrenRUN15:24
jrwren015:25
cmaloneyI don't have a ZX81 emulator to check that15:25
cmaloneybut most BASIC could handle larger than 25515:25
jrwrenyeah, must have been in software.15:25
cmaloneyI remember the Atari 8bit started putting things into scientific notation at one point15:26
jrwrenO_O i don't remember that.15:27
cmaloneyhttp://atariage.com/forums/topic/210068-whats-the-highest-number-atari-basic-can-count-to/15:27
cmaloneyYeah, it's pretty amazing what they shoved into those machines15:27
jrwrenoh yeah, I kinda remember big numbers.15:28
cmaloneyI'm sure whatever he did wasn't fast by any stretch15:28
jrwrenno, very slow15:29
cmaloneybut this dude is both patient and persistent15:29
cmaloneyand infinitely curious15:29
jrwrenwikipedia says all the math in atari basic was using those floating routines.15:29
jrwrenso very slow.15:29
cmaloneyHe wrote this paper because he got interested in the subject (subject escapes me) and went out and bought the computer to do the calculations15:29
jrwrenand it sounds like as long as the numbers were less than 1billion, it is accurate.15:30
cmaloneyYeah, not sure what calc he was doing15:30
