LordChaosHi, anyone running the 15.04 alpha in vbox?00:20
arthurfiggis(if anyone's a bit confused about what I mean and is running 14.04+, if you click on system settings and an option called diagnostics, it indicates that it sends off error reports automatically and is turned on by default...but if you follow the link it offers to the error reports, you can't actually read any of them)00:26

lordievaderGood mornining06:23
martinalexgood morning! I just got myself a bigger problem - i have been moving a bigger video file from my mobile to an external hdd. Out of bad luck there was a loose connection between the hdd and my computer so the moving got interrupted. And now im sitting here with 300MB on the HDD and another 200MB on the mobile of the 600MB video - how to reconstruct at least the remainings?07:43
martinalexthe file i found on the mobile had the externsion .mp4.tmp and i was using dolphin07:44
hateballThat sounds weird, a move shouldnt delete the original file until the copy was completed I'd think...07:46
martinalexyeah, i thought as well...07:46
martinalexi just checked, the .tmp file seems not to be connected to the original video07:47
Captain_HaddockHow do I get rid of the Touchpad and Instant Messaging Presence icons from the systray?10:38
valoriecan you right-click on them and remove?10:40
Captain_Haddockvalorie: No such options.10:41
Captain_Haddockvalorie: The system settings pages don't appear to have a disable icon option either.10:41
valorieright, it would not be there10:41
valoriehow about in the systray settings?10:42
valoriefor KDE4, the cashew10:42
Captain_HaddockGood question. I don't think I've noticed that. Lemme check10:42
Captain_HaddockAha!10:42
valorieplasma 5, the hamburger thing10:42
* Captain_Haddock shakes valorie's hand. That's the ticket :)10:43
valorieexcellent10:43
valorie:-)10:43
Captain_HaddockNext question: Kubuntu does not detect my second monitor. Windows 7 does so fine (on the same PC).10:47
lordievaderCaptain_Haddock: Does xrandr list it?10:48
Captain_HaddockI must note that I have a curious setup here. Both the monitors are VGA and connected to the HDMI and DVI ports using adapters.10:48
Captain_Haddocklordievader: The System Settings applet does not. Let me check xrandr10:48
Captain_Haddocklordievader: xrandr does not list the second monitor.10:49
lordievaderHmm, it's the HDMI screen, ain't it?10:50
Captain_Haddocklordievader: Yep. The DVI is detected fine. The HDMI is not.10:50
lordievaderCaptain_Haddock: Is the VGA connection listed though?10:51
Captain_Haddocklordievader: "VGA1 connected primary 1280x1024+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 376mm x 301mm"10:51
Captain_HaddockHDMI1 disconnected10:51
Captain_HaddockSame for HDMIs 2 and 3 (although there is only one HDMI port)10:52
lordievaderCaptain_Haddock: Set a resolution on the HDMI port. The DDC is probably broken in the converter.10:53
Captain_Haddocklordievader: using xrandr?10:55
lordievaderCaptain_Haddock: Yes.10:55
Captain_Haddock(BTW, the converter works fine under W7)10:55
Captain_HaddockLemme see how to do that10:55

lordievaderCaptain_Haddock: http://www.linuxjournal.com/content/guerrilla-tactics-force-screen-mode-ubuntu10:55
Captain_Haddocklordievader: That seems to add new resolutions to monitors that are already detected.11:08
lordievaderCaptain_Haddock: It was more about the part that sets an output resolution...11:09
Captain_Haddocklordievader: I see. That sets the output resolution for the "default" monitor which in my case will probably be the DVI monitor (which is now my primary working monitor).11:10
Captain_HaddockDon't I need to add the second monitor first somehow? xorg.conf?11:10
lordievaderCaptain_Haddock: HDMI*11:10
Captain_HaddockAh11:10
lordievaderCaptain_Haddock: No everything can be configured through xrandr.11:10
=== kbroulik is now known as kbroulik-lunch
Captain_Haddocklordievader: Tried twice to set a resolution for HDMI1 and I lost the existing (default DVI) display as well as keyboard functionality. I was able to SSH in fine though.11:48
Captain_HaddockIs there any way to check if the monitor is actually being detected in the HDMI port?11:49
BluesKajGreetings folks11:51

FritigernNow that there is a little activity here. i would like to ask what the most common problems are for early adopters of Plasma5.12:01
lordievaderFritigern: Probably that not everything is implemented, yet.12:09
lordievaderFritigern: But progress is quite fast ;)12:09

FritigernWell, it's new, and KDE4 took some time to get up to steam too. I remember being so annoyed with the fact that i had KDE3 just right for me, and then KDE rolled out. :-)12:10
hateballCaptain_Haddock: xrandr should show if it's connected or not12:10
hateballoh already answered, meh12:10
FritigernBut other than that, any incompatibilities? I can;t test in Virstualbox, because that messes up for me big time12:10
Captain_Haddockhateball: yeah :)12:10
Fritigern*VirtualBox12:10
Captain_Haddockhateball: but besides that? I only see the VGA compatible adapter in lshw for example. No mention of the monitor.12:11
hateballCaptain_Haddock: yes that is normal. what GPU chipset are you using?12:13
Captain_Haddockhateball: onboard Intel HD graphics12:15

FritigernThis is what happens if i try Plasma5 in VirtualBox. I am showing 15.04 Alpha2, but the exact same thing happens in 14.10 with plasma5. http://postimg.org/image/vi7w9lr1z/full/12:20
FritigernIt must be noted that it does not matter whether i have hardware acceleration on or off, nor does the amount of Video RAM make a difference12:20
lordievaderFritigern: That looks like a very broken graphics driver/emulator.12:22
lordievaderFritigern: Try KVM ;)12:22
FritigernI have no idea how to use KVM12:29

designbybeckIf i was going to do a nice clean install of Kubuntu, which one should I go with?16:24
geniidesignbybeck: Your best bet is 14.04, since it's an LTS release16:25
designbybeck...I guess that would be the smartest on my work computer genii  ;)16:25
geniidesignbybeck: Also, you can upgrade LTS to next LTS directly. If you install 14.10 you'd need to go 14.10->15.04->15.10->16.0416:27
designbybecki normally do  a clean install and not an upgrade each time for the learning experience16:28

LeeJunFanAnyone know where the config files for sddm are on 15.04? There's no manpage either. Or is there at least a way to type a username so I don't have to scroll through 7000 users on this nis domain machine?17:09
Captain_HaddockAudio issues: While logging in, I opened a new terminal using CTRL ALT F5. Now when I play an audio file in KDE, I hear nothing. But if I switch to the F5 terminal, I can hear it. How to fix this?17:09
Captain_HaddockLeeJunFan: Try using locate?17:10
LeeJunFanCaptain_Haddock: I did a find in /etc but it turned up only configs for systemd / init, etc. Nothing for the actual behavior of sddm.17:11
Captain_HaddockLeeJunFan: No idea mate. I'd love to help you more, but I don't even know what sddm is :o Presumably a desktop manager?17:13
Captain_Haddockif there's no man page, then see if there any commands beginning with sddm?17:14
Captain_Haddocksddm --help should point you someplace.17:14

Captain_HaddockIs there a command to use to restart the entire audio system in 14.10?17:18
kde64hi,  i want to connect computer to TV on hdmi. but the sound does not go to Tv. why?17:19
Captain_Haddockkde64: You might need to set the audio output to HDMI. Check the settings in "System settings" -> "Multimedia"17:20
BluesKajkde64, enable your spdif out in alsamixer and turn it up to at least 80%17:22
soeeyup. usualy you have to change output to hdmi in System Settings -> Multimedia17:23
kde64hmmm ok. i will try them. Thank you17:25
BluesKajsoee, no need here, if spdif out is enabled then it should send the audio to the graphics hdmi out17:25
Captain_HaddockAny ideas on my audio issue?17:48
BluesKajCaptain_Haddock, pastebin your alsamixer settings please17:55
Captain_HaddockBluesKaj: Thanks. But killing pulseaudio and restarting it appears to have fixed it.17:56
Captain_HaddockReally weird thing to happen though.17:56
BluesKajCaptain_Haddock, which audio chip?17:59
Captain_HaddockBluesKaj: Intel18:00
BluesKajCaptain_Haddock, ok good , if you have an intel hda audio chip then running sudo modprobe snd-hda-intel will reload the driver after an upgrade, if that's the case then a reboot is needed as well.18:00
Captain_HaddockBluesKaj: My sound is working fine. It was just playing in the wrong tty.18:02
BluesKajit's a known bug , been around for a while and it's too unimportant to get much attention18:02
Captain_HaddockBluesKaj: I'm not sure I follow. This is a fresh install.18:03
BluesKajCaptain_Haddock, then you probly upgraded after the install, correct ?18:03
Captain_HaddockBluesKaj: minor updates to the kernel? Yes.18:04
BluesKajok18:05
Captain_HaddockThe install is only a week old18:06
BluesKajwell, any upgrades will unload the driver18:09
Princehi!18:11
Captain_Haddockhullo18:12
BluesKajCaptain_Haddock, if you add this line, ' options snd_hda_intel index=0 ', to the bottom of the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file then that should solidify the driver and load it on each boot.18:29
Captain_HaddockBluesKaj: Thanks. I've noted that down for the next time this happens :)18:30
BluesKajI can't think of why none of the devs have bothered with this bug , it's been around for over a yr18:31
