Ozzie_0001Hi.03:28
Ozzie_0001Can somebody help me: I want to see this flash player streams in vlc, but i cannot find the streams source. The url's are: http://www.rtve.es/directo/canal-24h/  http://noticieros.televisa.com/foro-tv/  http://tv.milenio.com/   Thank you.03:28
holsteini dont think you are allowed to do that03:28
holsteinvlc wont play flash streams AFAIK03:29
Ozzie_0001Why?03:29
holsteinif i want/need flash, i use pepperflash, the only current flash for linux03:29
holsteinhttp://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/03:29
Ozzie_0001My PC is too slow for flash.03:29
holsteinif i want to play a stream in VLC, i make sure VLC can play the content.. its not allowed to play flash03:29
holsteinOzzie_0001: i use the pepperflash in chrome on quite old/slow machines..03:30
Ozzie_0001Oh... I though it can plat it...03:31
holsteinOzzie_0001: you "thought" what? that vlc had support for flash? ask them.. if you think they do. but, they dont..03:31
holsteinflash supports flash content.. and adobe releases a current version for linux with pepperflash.. you can see the facts, and test whta you have at the link above03:32
* Unit193 uses firefox/xombrero with flash..03:33
holsteinthey *may* offer an alternate stream03:33
Ozzie_0001*thought *play03:33
Ozzie_0001They do not... Mmmm... What a shame...03:38
holsteini would just try whatever the content provider suggests..03:39
Unit193In Firefox, dwhelper can pickup the stream sometimes for you to grab the URL.03:39
holsteinyou may be able to ask them for a "lighter" alternative..03:39
holsteinwont hurt to try the URL..03:40
Ozzie_0001I will. Thank you.03:40
Ozzie_0001Thanks.03:43
bhadI have ath9k enabled on lsmod but ifconfig doesn't show my wlan0. How to fix this?10:34

Glorfindel1lxde isn't starting up, tty 7 is a blank screen. what command starts lubuntu's DE?14:31

haledI have ath9k loaded, but it ifconfig doesn't show a network interface for it. How do I fix this?17:38
holstein!wifi17:39
ubottuWireless documentation, including how-to guides and troubleshooting information, can be found at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs17:39
haledholstein, it's a rather specific problem17:39
holsteini would just start at the beginning.. depending on the device, i wouldnt assume its "good".. i would try and test it with a known supported driver.. that would be one the manufacturer promises support for, or, with a live linux iso that is known to have supported it17:40
haledit works on windows17:40
holsteinif the device works under those conditions, then, i would know its not "broken" physically, and i could move on17:40
haledI don't think it has any "official" linux support17:41
holsteinsure, i dont either.. so, its up to you and the community to make it work, if it can17:41
holsteinwhat i typically do is just throw a bunch of live iso's at hardware.. i will note the kernel versions and modules being used17:41
holsteintypically, with linux, when hardware can work, it'll just work.. when it doesnt just magically work, it can be more of a challenge.. but, its nice to know if it used to work, or ever worked in the past..17:42
wxlhaled: if you want someone to complain at, try linus XD17:42
holsteini'll use ubuntu iso's for the supported lts releases, and the latest.. as well as, the upcoming17:42
haledwxl, thanks17:42
holsteinif i can get it working, i'll make a note of the kernel version and other relevant details, and see if i can implement that in the distro i want to use17:43
wxlhonestly, though, holstein is right. if support doesn't exist officially from the manufacturer and the kernel doesn't have it, it's up to the Linux (not Ubuntu or Debian) kernel developers to implement it17:43
wxlof course you can make a driver yourself but that's probably asking a lot :)17:43
haledthe ath9k driver is in the kernel since 3.0 or so17:43
haledbesides, it's loading17:44
holsteinwell, all of linux is completely open, if any manufacturer wants to make it a magically simple process for the end user17:44
holsteinhaled: i think you are assuming that the module you are loading supports the hardware17:44
haledI've been using this driver with this kernel before17:44
halederr17:44
holsteinhaled: sure.. but, its the hardware that is the issue17:44
haledthis device with this driver17:44
holsteinand, the kernel gets rev'd17:44
haled(with some kernels)17:45
wxlwith what kernels?\17:45
wxland for that matter, what distros?17:45
holsteinif you can determine what module is working with what kernel, you can likely figure out how to support it now17:45
holsteinyou will find "Regression" bugs..17:45
haledwxl, it was some lubuntu I believe that I was using17:45
haledI think it was 14.0417:45
holsteinhaled: try them, and see which *precisely* is supporting it..17:46
wxlthen try 14.04 to confirm that17:46
holstein14.04 is LTS.. so, you may find that just using it is the "simplest" way to address your issue17:46
haledgood idea, thanks17:46
holsteinor, you may try 15.04, and find that it supports the device "out of the box".. and you can decide what you like to do17:46
holsteinor, look and see what is providing support for your hardware, and implement that into 14.10..17:47
holsteinotherwise, you take the chipset you have, *specifically*, and search.. you dont need to search "lubuntu".. you search ubuntu, or debian, or linux.. you can go upstream to the larger relevant sources17:47
haledit's not some relic hardware17:47
holsteinhaled: im not implying it is17:47
holsteinit *is* not officially supporting linux.. so, its up to you17:48
holsteini will utilize the stock main ubuntu iso's when testing, so i can use the larger relevant upstream support avenues... for hardware specifics like this17:49
