[10:11] hi all [10:11] I am having a weird issue on kubuntu 14.04 [10:12] http://wklej.org/id/1627432/ [10:12] my physical eth0 interface is claimed to be non-existent by dumpcap (and hence I cannot use wireshark on it) [10:13] wondering, what might be happening [10:17] rysiek|pl: What is the output of 'ip a s'? [10:17] lordievader: http://wklej.org/id/1627438/ [10:17] Never mind, didn't look at your paste yet... [10:17] Lets say it is still early... [10:18] it is, too early [10:18] rysiek|pl: Your eth0 is down. [10:18] rysiek|pl: sudo ip l s eth0 up [10:19] http://wklej.org/id/1627441/ [10:19] nothing's changed [10:20] I *think* this might have something to do with the docker0 interface, but am not entirely sure [10:21] also, "no such device exists" seems to be a different issue than "interface is down" [10:21] lordievader: ^ ^ ^ [10:22] rysiek|pl: Fair enough, does tcpdump show the same behaviour? [10:22] # tcpdump -i eth0 [10:22] tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode [10:22] listening on eth0, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 65535 bytes [10:22] humm [10:23] what the... [10:23] Does dumpcap drop privileges? [10:23] how can I check that [10:24] rysiek|pl: Err, no idea. Must say that I never have used dumpcap. tcpdump suits my needs. [10:24] nothing in the manpage [10:24] wireshark run as root does have the same problem though [10:24] and it doesn't drop privs AFAIK [10:25] rysiek|pl: You shouldn't run wireshark as root. It is perfectly capable as running as a user. [10:26] I know [10:26] bear with me, trying to debug this bastard [10:26] * lordievader if I disappear, I mucked up my client's firewall === Yukkii is now known as Yukkino [12:22] Hiyas all === me is now known as Guest3299 [12:28] Hello i have a problem with the kubuntu system settings, call anyone help me [12:29] Guest3299, yes, just state your issue [12:29] Guest3299: Could you describe the problem? [14:26] Well try it and ask in there? === kubuntu is now known as Guest14410 [16:10] Hi everyone [16:10] I need to reinstall Kubuntu on my laptop and I'm unsure which version I should download [16:11] I'm an experience Linux user so don't really fear running bleeding edge stuff and report bugs [16:12] How would you describe the latest iso (alpha 2 I think) [16:12] Major blocker or just minor annoying stuff from time to time? [16:14] sh if you want bleeding edge kubuntu, try this, http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/daily-live/current/ [16:15] Shaika-Dzari: No, a development version is never recommended. [16:16] Shaika-Dzari: That said, if you know what you are doing and do not mind having broken things from time to time, then please do test Vivid :D [16:19] I don't mind the crash from time to time. It's my personnal laptop and there is nothing critical on it. My work laptop is running 14.10 so I can switch if I need to... :) [16:21] Shaika-Dzari: Then please do help us in testing 15.04 :D [16:22] Shaika-Dzari: Would you like to become part of the Kubuntu Testers team? [16:23] What do I need to do? [16:24] https://wiki.kubuntu.org/KubuntuTesters [16:24] I found that... [16:27] Shaika-Dzari: That is the one. From time to time you are asked to test new Kubuntu iso's, see if they install correctly and report bugs if you find them. Please ping Riddell in #kubuntu-devel ;) [16:30] ok, I'll read it and see if I can help. I must admit I don't have a lot of free time (already working a lot as webapp dev) but I'll gladly report bugs if I can. [16:30] Shaika-Dzari: It would be great if you could :D [17:12] hi [17:13] hi === steve___ is now known as Guest30689 === Yukkino is now known as Yukkii [21:14] hmm, I am completely baffled as to how to get audio recoding working in this brave new world of PulseAudio. I even have the modules loaded that get PA to present a sink and a source for JACK, but they appear to do nothing; I can see the vu meter for the pulseaudio device for my soundcard's input, and it's definitely hearing stuff from my mic, but that never seems to get through to jack. [21:16] It's infuriating to see things so close to working, yet in practice completely useless. Tempted to just dig out my old used iMac with an older Kubuntu version on it and use that instead of my shiny laptop . . . [22:09] Sigh. All I want to do is use QTractor to record audio from my microphone. Apparently that's too much to ask in the year 2015, arghhh === CyberSix_ is now known as CyberSix [22:53] hello i need help with installing graphics drivers [22:53] i downloaded official nvidia drivers and its a .run file [22:53] and it doesnt run [22:53] opens it in libre office [22:53] can someone help me to install them ? [22:53] pet0: Firstly, that's not how you run them. Secondly, you probably shouldn't do it that way! [22:54] Install the drivers from the repos. [22:54] can you help me with the name of package? [22:54] its been some time i used linux with gui [22:55] i was following a guide btw [22:55] the problem is however that my flash application keeps blinking [22:56] it keeps showing hidden polygons [22:56] Which release of Kubuntu are you running? I think for 14.10 the latest package in teh repos is "nvidia-331" [22:56] it happens when there are more polygons [22:56] latest dled it yesterday [22:56] and updated [22:57] its intalling [22:58] *installing.. i only read that it might be graphics driver problem [22:58] but everything works ok movies too just the flash doesnt [22:59] when it loads bigger data [22:59] so it might be only flash related [23:02] https://paste.kde.org/pd58htepn [23:02] i get some error messages at the end [23:10] is that bad? sounds bad [23:14] pet0: heh, yeah, it complaining it has no space seems worrying. Do you indeed have free space? [23:14] (specifically on /boot?) [23:14] /boot has 100mb [23:14] ill check again [23:15] 100mb free may not be enough... [23:15] how to change/fix [23:15] its an ssd drive [23:16] will i have to reinstall ? [23:16] its sda1.. sda2 is / [23:16] Naw. Personally I'd probably just do away with having a separate /boot partition. [23:17] how should i do it [23:17] i think the bootloader is there too [23:18] Hmm. You sure you didn't install to the MBR? I guess these days with EFI you may well not have. [23:19] You might just want to try and free up some space there then; see http://askubuntu.com/questions/89710/how-do-i-free-up-more-space-in-boot for some examples of how you might do so. [23:20] it asked and i picked sda1 [23:20] how should i check ? [23:23] thanks it worked [23:23] i had two versions of files there [23:23] now it installed so ill try to restart [23:23] thanks sofar [23:24] no problem, and fingers crossed [23:28] didnt help.. so its flash related or idk [23:30] Hmm. Can't really help you there, then; I've made a point of not caring about flash for a while now, heh. [23:30] Although, I guess it's worth asking, is this flash as installed as a plugin, or flash as it comes bundled with Chrome? [23:30] i found some guides on flashplugins too so ill try them [23:31] i have firefox [23:31] I'd honestly give Google Chrome a shot (it's proprietary, but hey, so is flash itself) at least to help diagnose the problem. [23:32] If it works with the version of flash that ships built into Google Chrome, then you know it's specifically the version or config of your flashplugin installation, at least. [23:32] flashplugin-intaller [23:32] installer [23:34] pet0: seriously, do give Google Chrome a shot and see if the flash bundled with it exhibits the same problems. [23:42] chrome works fine [23:42] ill fix the flashplugin then [23:42] thanks for help [23:43] also i have an another question [23:43] i have multiple monitors.. when i plug them in and boot the screens remain black [23:43] it only works with one [23:44] they are all hdmi plugged into one card [23:44] !hdmi [23:44] boo, no helpful hints [23:45] pet0: does kscreen see them in systemsettings? [23:45] they are not connected [23:45] if i startup the computer with them it wont load the login screen [23:45] just blank black screen [23:46] i reintalled the drivers now so i should maybe try again === Philip6 is now known as Philip5
