When I drop a disk into /dev/sr1, no software will read the data on the medium. Handbrake won't load the data, k3b won't identify the disk, nothing will load the data on the medium. I've tried everything. Moved the drive cables to different ports, changed the BIOS settings. The closest I got, was moving the cables onto the main SATA ports (0-3) and setting the ports [05:35] to AHCI. And that got the drives working for a while, but now, /dev/sr1 will not recognize anything placed on the drive again. I have independently verified that the drives are functional. === kevin is now known as Guest3373 [05:50] I'm having an issue with a second DVD drive on this linux box. [09:10] i have 14.10 + ppa - its only on 4.14.2 [09:17] yossarianuk: we have no plans for that [09:22] Hi / Hola! [09:23] Alguien sabe porqué ahora el sistema no me monta los pendrive? [09:24] Somebody knows why the system don't recognize now my pendrives? [09:26] Marleyx: type "dmesg" into a terminal after pluggin it in [09:26] it might give you some hints [09:27] welcome [09:28] the problem is that before was working ok [09:28] but now not [09:29] maybe some upgrade, maybe my fingers on incorrect place [09:29] Yes, but it might have been corrupted or something. Which should show if you type dmesg [09:29] like "bla blah marked as dirty" or whatever [09:30] [ 7952.520035] usb 1-5: new high-speed USB device number 8 using ehci-pci [09:30] [ 7952.657720] usb 1-5: New USB device found, idVendor=13fe, idProduct=4100 [09:30] [ 7952.657726] usb 1-5: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 [09:30] [ 7952.657730] usb 1-5: Product: USB DISK 2.0 [09:30] [ 7952.657734] usb 1-5: Manufacturer: [09:30] !paste [09:30] [ 7952.657737] usb 1-5: SerialNumber: 9000953F30FFFF32 [09:30] For posting multi-line texts into the channel, please use http://paste.ubuntu.com | To post !screenshots use http://imgur.com/ !pastebinit to paste directly from command line | Make sure you give us the URL for your paste - see also the channel topic. [09:33] !paste [09:34] sorry, I don't know how it works. [09:34] the idea is that you paste the output from dmesg into paste.ubuntu.com and then give us the url here [09:34] ok [09:34] then we can see all the lines, no risk to be muted [09:35] or you could also do "sudo apt-get install -y pastebinit && dmesg|pastebinit" [09:35] http://paste.ubuntu.com/10185607/ [09:35] !paste [09:35] hmmm [09:36] there's no mention of it being assigned to sdbX or some such [09:36] no, but why not makes auto assignation? [09:36] Do you know if the partitions are OK? "sudo blkid" should show everything [09:36] yes, in other computer works, [09:36] ah [09:37] but here, any pen and sd works [09:37] no works [09:37] well, if you run sudo blkid, does it list the partitions at all? [09:38] I'm waiting response from blkid, [09:39] http://paste.ubuntu.com/10185622/ [09:39] actually you may not need sudo with blkid, but oh well [09:39] sdh1, i think [09:40] Yeah, that seems like it should be it [09:40] And that doesnt show up in Dolphin [09:40] ? [09:40] no [09:40] is for that i'm here :) it's rare, not normal [09:41] Marleyx: Do you get a notification about removable device? There should be a thing in your system tray [09:41] no, nothing [09:41] i have activated automount in preferences [09:41] hmmmmmmmmm [09:42] Marleyx: if you run "mount", does it show sdh mounted anywhere? [09:42] mount sdh ? [09:42] nothing else? [09:42] no no, just "mount" [09:42] it will show everything that is mounted [09:42] if it has automatically mounted somewhere weird maybe [09:43] http://paste.ubuntu.com/10185653/ [09:43] typically it should by "dev/sdh1 mounted as /media/$user/$devicelabel" [09:46] thanks hateball for your help [09:54] maybe is hardware, because the sd target don't makes anithing in dmesg [09:55] but in other ports, other pen drive: http://paste.ubuntu.com/10185787/ [09:55] yeah that's how it should be [09:55] hmmm [09:56] maybe there is something weird with the partition table [09:56] still, it shows when you run blkid [09:57] and this pen and this port its sure that works: http://paste.ubuntu.com/10185797/ [09:58] same: '/dev/sdh1: UUID="C858-68CA" TYPE="vfat" [10:08] Good morning.
