xubuntu31wHello. I just wanted to know whether there is any settings in Xubuntu that will allow me to adjust the volume for watching horror movies. For example, the 'normal' volume in Insidious is very low compared to the huge spike in volume the movie uses to scare people. Not really great when watching horror films at night and not wanting to disturb others. Any comments?00:14
holsteinxubuntu31w: volume leveling00:17
xubuntu31wthanks, how do I access that, please?00:18
holsteinoh, its not a settings, for sure00:18
holsteinxubuntu31w: im looking to see how it may be "easy" to do that..00:18
xubuntu31wOh.. thanks :)00:19
holsteinhttp://askubuntu.com/questions/31580/is-there-a-way-of-leveling-compressing-the-sound-system-wide seems like a round about high-maintenance way to do it00:20
xubuntu31wwow... thanks. I will have to work through that carefully.00:23
holsteini might consider something at the TV, if thats where it is00:24
holsteinsome have levelling on them..00:24
xubuntu31wactually, I am connected to a tv!00:24
xubuntu31wWhat is the function called on the TV?00:24
holsteinid say, you'll piddle with that, hopefully, not break your audio, and after about an hour or so, be moderately impressed with the outcome00:24
holsteini mean, i use those tools from that link, but, they are not "magic".. they require some config00:25
holsteinxubuntu31w: i would google "my tv brand avl" or volume leveling..00:25
xubuntu31wok. That's great. Thank you so much for your help!00:26
holsteinxubuntu31w: sure.. let me know how it goes.. i may find something more friendly for a pulseaudio plugin, or something like that00:26
xubuntu31wWill do ;)00:27

dalebertI'm looking for helping changing the default cursor back from a right slanted one to a left slanted one. I had my mouse on the left side and downloaded and install an alternative cursor and it has worked well. Well things have changed and I can't find where to change it back. I backed up the file before changing it. I've looked in /usr/share/icons but don't find it. I've played  with the them but that only affects the cursor in16:03
dalebertapplications, not on the desktop, panel or menus16:03

sleeziohello, what is the best(easiest) way to make a copy of a dvd? i don't want to rip, but just make a mirrror image from dvd to a blank dvd..i've seen articles on acidrip, handbrake, etc, but i *think* those are all rippers19:03
holsteinsleezio: you could rip to iso, and burn that iso..19:05
holsteinhttp://askubuntu.com/questions/147800/ripping-dvd-to-iso-accurately19:05
sleeziothanks, i'll give that a try19:06
holsteincould likely just find the copy function in the menu of brasero does what you like.. "copy" using DVD as source and destiation.. making the image it needs during the process on the hard drive temporarily19:06
