cluelesspersonhow do you easily add a key to a server?02:12
cluelesspersonthis is a freaking headache02:12
aeon-ltdjddviramontes: like xfce or lxde, they require less processing power and ram to use. slowdowns are usually caused by your processor going as fast as it can therefore not being able to do much else, or shortages on ram which forces ubuntu to use your hard drive as ram (swap files/ partitions) hard drives are much slower than ram.02:12

EriC`andy__, i'm using a limited bandwidth internet connection right now, it's pretty slow and i need to preview youtube videos ( just the audio )04:10
andy__I am running xubuntu, so it will look a little bit different in ubuntu.04:10
andy__oh.04:11
andy__It is the bandwith problem then.04:11
EriC`i'll youtube-dl them later if i want to, but previewing is taking forever cause of the video04:11

EriC`yeah there's the -x option04:12
EriC`the problem is that the files are 1hour+ long and i only want to preview first then download04:12
EriC`and you can't specify to download the first couple minutes or so afaict04:13

andy__...04:13

Flugzyes, the xorg-video-abi-11 12 13 and so on are in that package, which fglrx depends on04:39

Bashing-omganeshp: let me look on the Nvidia site, see what driver they reoemmend. just a maybe we can use a later version than 304 ?05:10
EriC`andy__, nevermind, actually i just noticed that youtube-dl doesn't download the whole thing first, it seems to download just the audio, so i guess it's the same as using youtube-mp3.org05:10
ganeshp@Bashing-om: I tried that option.  Looks like 304 series is the last series of drivers offered to to my graphics card. Now it is moved to legacy category now :(05:11

EriC`andy__, one problem i'm facing is that mplayer loads the file into memory and then it ends it at what it was when it was loaded into memory05:42
EriC`andy__, like if it's at 10% and i play it, even if it reaches 20% by the time i get to 10% it ends it05:43
EriC`if i can pass the start arguments to mplayer i can probably get where it thought it ended at first and have it replay it starting from there05:43
andy__I am not sure why it is doing that.05:44
andy__Perhaps somebody else would know more about the problem.  It has never done that to me before.05:44
andy__I used to download higher definition videos, and would start it when the video was only 1% downloaded.  When the video would reach the end of what has been downloaded, it would stop and I would have to rerun my script that would play all *.part files.05:47

bekksand bumblebee isnt a graphics driver, but a facility to choose between graphics drivers.10:52
blackflowTheHackOps: wild guess, that run file is a shell script and its shebang points to an unexisting binary10:52
TheHackOpsblackflow, I thought that as well but i tried installing all my different IDES some are .sh scripts and some are .run files10:53
TheHackOpsand none of them work10:53
TheHackOpshttp://pastebin.com/9y6zh3mN10:53
blackflowTheHackOps: what does head -c 10 for one of those files say? Careful, if it's a binary you might get garbage out. Check with 'file' what is it first.10:53

bekksgenkgo: So talk to your server provider.11:40
dinosaurbekks, blackflow: how does it happen that the linear writing to the disk is fast, why normal disk operations seems to be congested?11:41
genkgobekks: will do. thank a lot for all your help. it is really wonderful that you took so much time in answering my questions, much appreciated.11:41
bekksdinosaur: the 10MB IO operation happened entirely in the IO cache in the RAM, so no disk IO was ever involved.11:42
dinosaurbekks: but he also increased the count, AFAIR11:42
bekksdinosaur: Thats why dd with smaller total amounts of data than the IO cache size is totally useless.11:42
bekksdinosaur: He did not use a total IO size of > 13GB.11:42
blackflowdinosaur: was that with or without fsync after each block with dd?11:42
dinosaurblackflow: dd if=/dev/zero of=testfile bs=1024k count=[various numbers] - it is what I gave him11:43
dinosaurblackflow: so I guest without, am I right?11:43
blackflowdinosaur: you need conv=fdatasync to actually write each block to disk11:43
bekksdinosaur: with count 1, 10 and 100 - which is far smaller than 13GB.11:43
dinosaurblackflow, bekks: thanks, it will be useful for the future11:44
genkgodinosaur: but the second time I did count=100011:44
blackflowotherwise it lingers in memory at the convenience of the kernel to commit it to diwk11:44

bekksvmstat told us that the system is experiencing heavy IO load.11:45
bekksgenkgo: count=1000 means 1GB with a bs of 1M.11:45
jfbany suggestions on booting without a monitor?11:45
dinosaurbekks: could you please explain how you figured out that he has 3 MB of memory used?11:46
dinosaur*3 GB11:46
blackflowdinosaur: the "-/+ buffers/cache" line in 'free -m'11:46
bekksdinosaur: BY looking at the cache portion of free -m, which said "about 13GB". With a total RAM of 16GB, that leads to 3GB being used.11:46
dinosaurbekks: cache portion of it says that 13746 MB of memory is free. How should it be interpreted? I can't comfortably open your link in browser, because it will most likely use all my free memory11:48
bekksdinosaur: Did you read the link I posted?11:49

dinosaurbekks: I'm not sure if I'll be able to right now, as I said. OK, let's give it a try.11:49

blackflowDelphin: also, -> #apache11:50
dinosaurbekks: OK, I already got it.11:51
dinosaurbekks: thx11:51
dinosaurNow: I have removed almost everything from my system. I've left only packages marked as essential (I hope that I've left all of them, but I'm not even sure). Do you suggest I install something before rebooting?11:52
blackflowdinosaur: depends what you want to achieve.11:52
dinosaurblackflow: I want the system to boot on its own after reboot.11:53
dinosaurgrub is not installed, I noticed11:53
bekksSo you need to install grub.11:54
blackflowdinosaur: are you not using a default Ubuntu installation?11:54
dinosaurblackflow: default Ubuntu Server 12.0411:54
blackflowdinosaur: oh you're stripping off unneded packages from a default installation?11:55
bekksThe question is: why?11:55
dinosaurblackflow: no, I want to build Ubuntu from scratch. I can do it pretty safely, because I do this operations in a VM, but I would rather prefer not to do the job twice, so it's why I'm asking if there's something I should install11:56
blackflowdinosaur: you could follow the Linux From Scratch handbook and instead use Ubuntu provided .debs for each required package. Assuming you know what you're doing :)11:57
bazhang!mini | dinosaur and build it up11:57
ubottudinosaur and build it up: The Minimal CD image is very small in size, and it downloads most packages from the Internet during installation, allowing you to select only those you want.  The installer is text based (rather than graphical as used on the Desktop DVD). See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD11:57
bekksdinosaur: Using a basic server installation would be more targetting :)11:57
dinosaurbekks: what do you mean basic server installation?11:57
bekksdinosaur: Just use the server iso from Ubuntu, and use it for installing your VM. Thats a reasonable small vm afterwards.11:58
dinosaurbekks: right now, it takes 600 MB of disk space11:58
blackflowI must've misunderstood the "build from scratch" then :)11:58
bekksdinosaur: Which is very small.11:58
ioriadinosaur, try the mini - iso11:58
dinosaurbekks: it's because I've got rid of all the packages which were possible to remove11:59
bekksdinosaur: Why?11:59
bekksWhats the actual goal behind that?11:59
dinosaurbekks: because I want to build it from scratch to know the system better and also for fun.11:59
blackflowdinosaur: The do Linux From Scratch first. Then do a Gentoo install. And then try LFS with Ubuntu debs :D That's a all year round fun right there ;)12:00
blackflow*Then12:00
bekksdinosaur: You will not "know the system better" when doing that - you will just learn that random removal of packages may harm your system.12:00
dinosaurbekks: you are wrong. I'm going to read a bit of source code of chosen packages12:00
ioriadinosaur, i got the same idea... then i understood that was beyond my forces and started to study a manual12:01
bekksdinosaur: I am right. I've already been there where you want to go to...12:01
bekksdinosaur: About two decades ago ;)12:01
dinosaurbekks: I'm not going to read through everything. Just pieces that are of my interest.12:01
simlis19hallo all - excuse me this is a trial12:01
ConfusedPersonhallo12:01
bekksdinosaur: No one said you should read "everything".12:01
dinosaurdammit. I've rendered the system unusable12:02
bekksdinosaur: But your proposed learning path is not targetting your goal.12:02
blackflowdinosaur: you're using conflicting words then. Do you want to learn Ubuntu inside out or a linux distro? Because the former does not really need building it "from scratch".12:02
dinosaurblackflow: Linux, but Ubuntu is a distribution that I like12:02
bazhangis there an actual support question regarding what dinosaur is doing12:02
simlis19ok it seems that I'm able using thunderbird to chat12:03
simlis19bye12:03
blackflowdinosaur: which is pre-built and pre-configured for easier use. IF you want to learn how distros are built, then do LFS or Gentoo.12:03
bazhanglets get back to ubuntu support please12:03
dinosaurbazhang: OK, so after I choose Ubuntu from boot menu, it tells me that there is no such file. Do you know solution?12:04
bazhangmultiple distros support can move to ##linux12:04
dinosaurbazhang: but I'm using Ubuntu12:04
bazhangdinosaur, sounds like you overdid it in the removal department, is this a vm or what12:05
dinosaurbazhang: sure, it is a vm12:05
dinosaurit tells me "you need to load the kernel first" (something like that)12:05
bazhangdinosaur, so grab the mini iso around 60mb, and build up; you could have it running in the next ten minutes or so12:06

dragerI installed Ubuntu 14.10 a few weeks ago with encryption active on the whole disk and my home folder. It worked fine during the installation but when I turn on my computer and tries to enter the passphrase in the input nothing inserts into the box so I reboot my computer and the UI changes (unstyled) and then I can type in my passpharse and that works. So every time I do need to reboot my computer for it to work… When I boot it says GNU GRUB version 213:35
k1l_Paddy_NI: i think the issue on that is that you are backdooring security enhancements.13:35
dragerI get a question about report every time I login as well13:35
Paddy_NIk1l_, I don't see it as backdooring13:35
k1l_Paddy_NI: so you want to use vpn and such but on the other hand make that available to whatever runs or can login on that device13:35
Paddy_NIk1l_, It's simply allowing a user who is using ssh to access the keyring and unlock it13:36
Paddy_NIk1l_, If the computer is logged in then I can just "sudo nmcli con up id "VPN_NAME""13:36
Paddy_NIIf not then I cannot connect the vpn13:36
Paddy_NIThe inner working are of no interest to me13:37
Paddy_NIUnless they result in a solution to my problem13:37
k1l_Paddy_NI: i dont say you are hacking that computer. but it is the same as if a malicious user would do. so there is no easy "press here" button for that setup.13:37
Paddy_NIk1l_, Not really13:37
ioriaPaddy_NI, try : password-flags=0 and  add :  [vpn-secrets]   password=yourpassword13:38
k1l_Paddy_NI: if the computer is logged in, its not available to everything on that machine or standing before that machine.13:38
Paddy_NIioria, That seems plausible13:38
Paddy_NIk1l_, SSH13:38
k1l_that is a total different thing you demanding autologin on here.13:38
k1l_Paddy_NI: or ssh.13:39
Paddy_NIk1l_, If the hacker already has ssh then I could care less whether they can turn my vpn on or off13:39
Paddy_NIseriously mate13:39
Paddy_NIget with the program13:39
Paddy_NI:-P13:39
Paddy_NIThey can see all of my files and pretty much erase my computer already with ssh access13:39
Paddy_NII dont see why the keyring is sandboxed from the ssh session13:40
k1l_Paddy_NI: i am just answering you why that setup is not thought of as a general usecase13:40
Paddy_NIk1l_, I really seriously doubt I am the only one trying to do this13:40
Paddy_NIIt was the first thing I wanted to do once I purchased my vpn13:40
k1l_you could set the kering manager to empty password if you wanted to.13:40
Paddy_NIk1l_, scroll back13:41
Paddy_NIlol13:41
k1l_Paddy_NI: "i demand that" is not the same with "everybody wants that"13:41
Paddy_NIk1l_, I have demanded nothing13:41
Paddy_NIplease stop misrepresenting this13:41
k1l_Paddy_NI: then you could set the vpn program to be in sudoers to grant access13:42
Paddy_NIhmm...13:42
Paddy_NII will try as ioria suggested first, however that means I have to remember each password for the VPN connections every time I want to use them13:43
Paddy_NIif it works that is13:43
Paddy_NIioria, Do I enter "password-flags=0 and  add :  [vpn-secrets]   password=yourpassword" as is with my details or is that meant to be appended to the nmcli connection command?13:44
Paddy_NIioria, I find the use of spacing to be a little confusing too13:45
Paddy_NIdouble-spaced after the colon13:45
ioriaPaddy_NI, edit /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ConnectionName and under [vpn]13:45
Paddy_NIand after the closing square bracker13:45
Paddy_NI*bracket13:45
ioriaPaddy_NI, restart with sudo nmcli con up id connection_name13:47
Paddy_NIbrb13:47
Paddy_NIioria, Do I add the colon?13:51
Paddy_NIshould it all be on one line13:51
Paddy_NIpassword-flags=0 : [vpn-secrets] password=yourpassword13:52
Paddy_NIlike above?13:52
Paddy_NII guess making this machine headless will not be an option13:53
Paddy_NIIf I use Ubuntu server then is the keyring done away with?13:53
Paddy_NIAnd if so what stores credentials?13:53
k1l_well, that is a totally other setup13:54
Paddy_NIk1l_, not so much13:54
ioriaPaddy_NI, sorry, no no colon13:54
Paddy_NIioria, Does [vpn-secrets] need to be left as is or do I put something in there?13:55
ioriaPaddy_NI, under  [vpn-secrets] password=yapassword13:56
Paddy_NIioria, So it is not all on one line?13:56
ioriaPaddy_NI, no13:57
Paddy_NI[vpn-secrets] is on a new line?13:57

blackflowdinosaur: in theory, yes. but since that's a VM, better make a copy of the disk image file on the host, before you proceed.14:01
k1lPaddy_NI: ok, i am done with you. good luck with your "i know all better than you" attitude and good luck in solving that issue14:01

alex_manutdI want to reinstall ubuntu overtop of itself to freshen it.  I have a / root partitiion and a /home and /swap partiitons.  When I format my / root partion and install ubuntu overtop, I will need to reinstall all my apps and packages again, correct? The only thing that separating my /home partition does is keep my personal files safe. yes?15:37
BluesKaj_jam3smpink, then consider using dd instead, like so, dd if=/dev/cdrom of=/home/user/someCD.iso bs=1M" , where if=inputfile and of=outputfile15:37

FlugzMrSunshine: ok.. i'm bailing out :-)15:47

talaverameza_Guest31653: For a feedback and to improve16:02
BluesKaj_nispr0, I'm not real knowlegable about server connections, but I'm assuming that tutorial will work for your machine. Also you'll need to edit  /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/base by adding nameserver IP, domain gateway, search gateway, and default gateway IPs16:04
fuzzybear3965Does anyone have problems with networking module not getting loaded after suspend?16:05

Guest31653talaverameza_, best to that question directly.  "Does anyone ..." questions are unclear and unnecessary16:06
talaverameza_Guest31653: Sorry for my bad english..16:07
Jpmhfuzzybear3965: I have seen issues where it does not recover, but it is not that the moduled does not get loaded, it is that the network card does not recover16:07
Guest31653talaverameza_, no problem  :)16:08
fuzzybear3965Jpmh: What do you mean the network card does not recover?16:09
Jpmhfuzzybear3965: I mean that when I debugged it, a long time ago, the issue was that the network controller was not responding after resuming.16:11
=== megabit|away is now known as megabitdragon
fuzzybear3965Jpmh: So, it was a hardware issue and not an OS issue?16:15
Jpmhfuzzybear3965: yes - at least as far as I remember it.  What I did was add some code to the resume to "kick the controller" back to life.16:16
fuzzybear3965Jpmh: So, it was not a hardware issue.16:17
fuzzybear3965Jpmh: You could reload the network card back into the OS.16:17
fuzzybear3965Jpmh: The problem was with the OS loading the card, not with the card itself.16:17
fuzzybear3965Jpmh: If the problem was with the card you would never have been able to reload it.16:18
fuzzybear3965Jpmh: It would not have responded to anything.16:18
Jpmhfuzzybear3965: not really, because the card should have recovered and in fact when I replaced it all was fine16:18
fuzzybear3965Jpmh: When you replaced 'what'?16:18
Jpmhthe problem as I remember it was that it saw the computer side but did not see the network side after the resume.  In fact, disconnecting the cable and reconnecting even caused it to recover16:19
Jpmhthis was a desktop and so I replaced the network card16:19
fuzzybear3965Jpmh: Disconnecting 'what' cable? Do you have a wireless USB dongle or something?16:19
fuzzybear3965Jpmh: So you did replace the network card? (As in, you purchased a new one)?16:19
Jpmhwhen I had the issue it was the ethernet connection to that card that I was losing16:20
fuzzybear3965Jpmh: So you disconnected your card and then re-inserted it?16:20
JpmhI did not need to purchase a new one,  just swapped it woth a machine that stays up all the time, but basically yes16:20

SchrodingersScatni291187: there's a couple dvd-authoring programs, if you want it to be played on a traditional dvd player then you normally need to convert the videos to the proper mpeg format and structure.  so something like devede can do the conversion and make an image for you.16:32

Komptontzanolo: so lets say that install is in /home/tzanolo/software/, type /home/tzanolo/software/install in terminal.17:41
MonkeyDustfreeroute  update;upgrade onky upgrades what's in the repos... is playonlinux in the 12.04 repos?17:42
Whirmarcelino671: it is a permission problem, could you paste the output of 'ls -l /home'17:42
freerouteMonkeyDust: according to aptitude, yes - http://kpaste.net/8051cb217:43

freerouteMonkeyDust: ah, apparently they maintain their own PPA - http://www.playonlinux.com/en/download.html17:44
Whirmarcelino671: there it is! the folder is owned by root and not by you17:44

marcelino671Whir: but chown not work, How I change the owner?17:45
tzanoloi just type install and an error appears: try install --help to more information. than, with ./install it runs17:45
Whirmarcelino671: you should fix that..also, why two Marcelino/marcelino folders17:45
marcelino671Whir: marcelino is the ubuntu home, Marcelino is the windows Home17:46

geirhaFlumeRouge: Well why are you backgrounding it when you want the opposite anyway?21:10
FlumeRouge@geirha: if "Termina=true" then it opens a terminal window, which I don't want, and instead of it sitting in launcher with specified icon, it gets lumped into the rest of the terminals already launched.21:11
FlumeRouge@geirha: I probably just don't know the .desktop options well enough. need to poke around some more.21:12
geirhaFlumeRouge: Well, you set Terminal=false obviously, but why are you backgrounding it?21:12
FlumeRouge@geirha: I just don't want it clutering up my workspace. If I alt-tab/tilde to cycle through my apps, it's just one more thing I'd rather not have to be concerned with. I'd prefer it sat in the launcher where I can see that it's running and terminate from.21:13

lyzeDanDare, thanks for the help 14.04.2 also doesn't work. but i figured out that the nvidia drivers are the problem. so using the open source drivers everything works21:59

Delta706Sometimes I find that ubuntu uses the wrong keyboard layout. Is there a way to fix this?22:01
Guest79817BUT YOU HAVE A PROBLEM LIKE ME22:02
Bashing-omDelta706: ubuntu/unity ? one can set the keyboard from the top task bar icon .22:02
Ben64Guest79817: stop the caps lock, explain your problem in as much detail as possible22:02
Delta706Bashing-om: I guess I am looking for a way to stop it going wrong22:03
Delta706rather than change it on the fly each time I hit the bug22:03
lyzesudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration22:03
lyzeDelta706,22:03
Delta706lyze: is there a kernel fix?22:04
lyzeDelta706, that should fix it for everytime22:04

Delta706lyze: I have the right keyboard shown by the selector which is located by the time indicator22:06
lyzeDelta706, but it still uses the wrong one?22:07
lyzeGuest79817, and then do it?22:07
Delta706lyze: yes. it is a bug in ubuntu it seems22:07
lyzeQo22:07
Delta706if I reboot again, it gets it right but it is a pain22:07
Delta706lyze: does your suggested command workround the bug to your knowledge?22:08
lyzeDelta706, i haven't heard of the bug yet. so i guess give it a try. this command simply reconfigures the packages -> askes you which layout you use22:09

Doc-SaintlyI'm using an ubuntu host with virtual box to pass through port 2222 to a guest. I see it open under netstat, but I get connection refused when I try to access this port from outside. Where do I start debugging this?22:28
lyzeDoc-Saintly, is it important to use nat and portforwarding?22:28
Doc-Saintlylyze: I suppose not, I think i've worked around this in the past by using a bridged adapter, but I'd like to know why it's not working :\22:29
lyzeDoc-Saintly, oh ok :) i also can't get it to work with nat so i also change it always to bridged :\22:29

jgcampbell300Is there a way to have a pxe boot server on a network that already has an dhcp server ?22:30
ryanqwertyhow to install proper virtual box extension pack for virtualbox-4.3.1022:31
Doc-Saintlyjgcampbell300: sure, you just have to put a switch behind it and connect all computers you want to wipe to that switch22:32
Doc-Saintlyer, *boot22:32
lyzeryanqwerty, http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/   download the correct version of the expansion pack22:34
lyzeand mount the iso22:34
lyzethen run "sudo sh PathToMountPoint/VBoxLinuxAdditions.run"22:34
jgcampbell300Doc-Saintly, so i use two nics in the server and use it kina like a router ? its local lan being a pxe bootable inviroment ?22:35
Doc-Saintlyjgcampbell300: and then you can hook a switch to that and connect all other machines to that, if you needed22:39
Doc-Saintlyjgcampbell300: I came close to doing something like this after reading this article: http://www.servercobra.com/pxe-boot-dban/22:40
jgcampbell300Doc-Saintly, ahh ok ... like a mini lab ... perfict ... thanks much22:40
Doc-SaintlyIf you don't intend to nuke the computers, I suggest you use a different boot image ;)22:40
jgcampbell300na im going to separate them ... I just need a quicker way to build more computers22:41
noelplacenciahey22:42
jgcampbell300Ok off to the races ... thanks for the info22:49
jayjoHow can I check my network capability from the command line/is that possible? on my machine I go to speedtest.net22:49
jayjoI'm ssh'd into a machine and want to see if my network is better on the remote machine than my local one22:50
Doc-Saintlyjayjo: there's probably some better whiz-bang tool, but I would probably use lynx (text-based web browser) with a speed test website that delivers a text result22:56

LordWillOhow stable is Cinnamon on 14.10? Any good tutorials on installing it?23:30
=== thomas_ is now known as Guest86228
Ben64LordWillO: sudo apt-get install cinnamon23:31
LordWillOthat's it/all?23:32
Ben64yep, thats how to install things in ubuntu23:32
OerHeksit's the metapackage.23:32
LordWillOok.. it says "failed to locate package cinnamon"23:33
LordWillOim guessing there's a repository/ppa to install?23:34
OerHeksare you sure you are on 14.10 ubuntu ?23:34
SchrodingersScat!info cinnamon23:35
ubottucinnamon (source: cinnamon): Innovative and comfortable desktop. In component universe, is optional. Version 2.2.16-3 (utopic), package size 279 kB, installed size 1049 kB23:35
LordWillOwell, i guess im not. it's 14.04.223:35
OerHeksnot available in 14.0423:36
LordWillOwell that makes sense. i guess ill try and upgrade it23:37
kruxhttp://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2014/07/new-cinnamon-ubuntu-14-04-ppa-stable23:37
Ben64LordWillO: probably best to stay on 14.04 unless you actually need something in utopic23:38
Ben6414.04 is supported until 2019, 14.10 is supported until July23:38
LordWillOoh haha.. I'll try krux's link then.23:39
syntaci'm running ubuntu in virtualbox. if i run startx and my user doesn't have a ~/.xinitrc file, it defaults to openbox an resizing the VM window also resizes the guest window (which is good). if i put 'exec xterm' in ~/.xinitrc, resizing no longer works (fixed screen resolution)23:39
syntacanyone know why this might be?23:39
Ben64syntac: you shouldn't be running startx23:40
OerHekssudo service lightdm start23:40
syntaci don't want to use lightdm23:40
Ben64theres also gdm or kdm23:40
syntacmy overall goal is to use SSH/X11 forwarding to tunnel xmonad from a different machine on this VM23:41
OerHekssyntac, then don't  use ubuntu at all, kubuntu uses lightdm too23:41
syntaci can get that to work but the screen resolution is fixed. i know guest additions are installed and resizing works because of the method described before23:41
syntacthis must mean that some other service is being started up that is controlling the screen resolution23:42
Ben64or that you're doing it wrong. don't use startx23:42
syntacso don't use startx and instead use gdm or kdm?23:43
kruxlol before a graphical login manager exister startx was there i see no reason why he cant use startx..23:44
kruxlinux is freedom of choice..23:44
syntacexactly23:44
kruxweather its ubuntu / debian or any other distro23:44
kruxhttps://wiki.haskell.org/Xmonad/Frequently_asked_questions23:47
jhutchinssyntac: You might try one of the many other terminal emulators.23:47
kruxlook there see if it might help..23:47
jhutchinssyntac: Also, #vbox might know about this.23:47
syntaci'll check with vbox. it 'works' right now, but only when the default xinitrc is used. i looked through it but didn't see anything about why it might dynamically resize the window23:48
syntackrux, i am able to successfully tunnel the xmonad session on to my local machine23:49
