valorieI have a question about systemd and upgrading - will my Vivid beta be converted to systemd at the proper time, or is it better to install  the systemd-sysv package00:01
valorieI'm sure we'll get this question in #kubuntu00:02
sgclarkvalorie:  yeah I would like to know myself >.< I am not prepared00:02
valorieperhaps I'll write to the devel list00:03
sgclarkgood plan00:03
valorieit's a bit late in the day to be asking here00:03
soeebtw, atm. in grub if we go to extra options, we have kernel version listed with suffix (systemd) - what are they00:03
valoriethe ops have prepared00:03
valorie!systemd00:03
ubottusystemd is the default init system for new installations of Ubuntu 15.04 onwards. For information on transitioning from upstart to systemd, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SystemdForUpstartUsers00:03
valoriewhich is helpful00:03
valorieright, and I guess choosing the options would be a good idea for testing00:04
valorieI tend not to shut this machine down though00:04
rwwvalorie: Your vivid beta will not be converted to systemd automatically.00:08
valoriethanks for the answer, rww00:09
rwwThe dependency on ubuntu-standard is changing to systemd-sysv | upstart. New installations will pick systemd-sysv from that and get systemd. Existing systems will already have upstart and will stick with that on upgrade.00:09
valoriebut new installs will be systemd, I assume?00:09
valorieah00:09
rww(ubottu's link discusses how to switch upstart to systemd)00:10
valorieI guess I will switch once vivid is released00:10
valorieright00:10
valorieI've retreated from the bleeding edge once I got cut like an ambassador00:11

valoriedon't do it in 14.1000:24
ahoneybunyea it is a bit broken00:25
valorieif you want to upgrade to vivid00:25
valoriejust install vivid beta, which is what I have00:25
ahoneybunI could not get it to install valorie 00:25
valorieif you do decide to go the next ppa route, please back up everything00:25
valorieI lost all my recent files00:25
ahoneybunI do always00:25
valorieI wish I'd had more patience00:26
valorieoh, well00:26

ahoneybunyep partman crashed00:26
valoriethanks for going to the trouble to file that00:26

valorieuefi is dark magic indeed00:27
ahoneybunvalorie, is everything in place on that report do you think?00:27
valorieI tried reading up on it and my head exploded00:27
valoriewhat a mess00:27
ahoneybunvalorie, most of the time it works fine on every distro00:27
ahoneybunonly problem was on Luna which was weird since Ubuntu 14.04 worked fine00:28
valorieahoneybun: I thought you were going to add some screenies?00:28
valorieotherwise it looks good, yes00:28
ahoneybunfunny thing is that apport crashed the first time XD00:28

ahoneybunyep I'll work on that in a bit 00:30

ahoneybunOh yeah well I just broke my machine so...  Lol00:54
ahoneybunI have to get a new Ubuntu image or get the kubuntu one to work00:55
valoriebeen there, done that00:55
valoriedidn't cry, but ..... gah00:55
ahoneybunI did not format the fat32 partition to efi00:55
ahoneybunWanted to see if I could  get past it that way00:56
valoriesec00:56
ahoneybunIn theory I would just have to get grub Efi to install now 00:56
valorieoops, gotta go fix dinner01:00

sgclarkpft Riddell: merge from initial upload is no go due to kubuntu_stable does not exist for all apps..01:08

soeesgclark: do you plan to work on 4.12.3 applications ?01:10
ahoneybunI reset the password so they gave me a tmp one and it does not work 01:11
ahoneybunOh 01:12
sgclarksoee: that is what I was attempting to do when it did not go as well as I hoped. It may have to be done manual unless Riddell has any ideas. Tho he is asleep now I suspect..01:15

AndChat|675444yofel: I got past the bug I reported 02:20
=== aaron is now known as ahoneybun

sitterRiddell: how did you build kconnect? the packaging has le bug09:58
Riddellsitter: que bug?  I just got it from git10:00

Riddellhmm, I fixed that, maybe I failed to push10:02

Riddellnaughty me :(10:17
Riddell10:18 <kubuntu-ci> Yippee! Seems you've fixed merger_kdeconnect-plasma: http://kci.pangea.pub/job/merger_kdeconnect-plasma/6/10:19
Riddellawooga, go me10:19
sitterRiddell: you totally made me get a notification as well :P10:20
sitterdragging me into this, how rude10:20
sitterRiddell: oh btw, I wonder you created a ktp-common-internals vivid branch but you did not remove the full-source import, nor did you update it, any particular reason for that?10:24
Riddellsitter: did I? where?10:26

sittermitya57: pushed. thanks for the fix :)11:16
sitterRiddell: oh you'll make me blush11:16
mitya57sitter, danke11:17
sitterRiddell: interestingly I started to autogenerate build dependency from the metadata build.kde is generated thanks to Aleix' scripting magic seems very reliable so far11:22
sittergoing to roll this into CI at some point. I'm not too thrilled about the fact that we can't accurately determine whether a dependency is directly or transitively needed but even with transitives mixed in it beats having to track this stuff manually11:23
Riddellsitter: kubuntu ci stores all the build-deps of stuff? does it let me find changed build-depends?11:27
sitterRiddell: build.kde does and yes it lets us detect changes11:28
BluesKajHi all11:45
lordievadersoee: You could already try it ;)12:42
soeelordievader: yeah but i decided to wait till it becames default one12:57
lordievadersoee: Should be fine. The Ubuntu boxes I've moved to Sysd went without trouble.12:59
lordievaderCome to think of it, I should move my desktop.13:00
soee:)13:02
soeelordievader: what do we need to do to use systemd ?13:03
lordievadersoee: Pretty much just one line in /etc/default/grub: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/systemd#Boot_loader_configuration13:03
Riddellit's easier than that13:04
BluesKajso when is the rest of KDE4 like dolphin apps going to adopt the colours and setings I choose in system settings etc, even Firefox is till using breeze default which I find too light looking for my taste13:04
Riddelljust hold down shift to get grub -> Advanced Options -> linux (systemd)13:04
Riddellsoee: or install systemd-sysv13:04
soeeRiddell: and what is teh recommended way ?13:05
lordievaderRiddell: Heh, nice.13:06
Riddellsoee: using grub is easy and non-permanent13:07
soeeok systemd-sysv will remove upstart right ?13:08
Riddellyep13:10
soeeand are there any problems with systemd atm ?13:10
Riddellsoee: working good for me13:11
BluesKajkdesudo systemsettings won't launch, had to do it in /usr/bin, but the toolbar fonts etc are stiill too small/default for this monitor, and editing with root permissions has become a chore since thew system settings fonts won't apply , even with root permissions . Sure hope this is just temporary 13:11
soeeok reboot, lets hope i boot again13:13
yofelsurvived? ^^13:16
soeeworks fine :) and a bit better when talkng about various messages during booting compared to upstart13:17
soeenow i had only "starting vesion 219" or something, before after that iv seen also several others 13:18
lordievadersoee: \o/13:20

Riddellfooey13:25
soee:-)13:25
soeeis there a command to check latest changes to package ?13:29
soeehmm alternative to no notification from Thunderbird when new message arrrives: use kde connect with app that notifies you about new mails :)13:31
yofelsoee: you can read the changelog.. or do you mean the diff?13:35
soeeyofel: just what has been changed since last version when updating13:36
yofelhm, there is something for that I believe, but I can't remember it -.-13:37
kajgetting the Xauthority can't be read error so kde can't start at the sddm login13:44
kajon irssi here13:45
sitterRiddell: you do remember that we need to re-enable systemd support in sddm btw?13:45
Riddellsitter: it's in the current package in vivid13:45

kajre-enable ? ..I installed systemd-sysv 13:46
Riddellvalorie: please just tidy up those wiki pages to remove the next PPAs13:46
Riddellkaj: install upstart if systemd breaks for you, or at boot hold down shift to get grub menu then Advanced Ubuntu -> Linux (upstart)13:48

kajsddm starts but I get that xauthority error that says kde can't be started13:51
soeeRiddell: the problem where Dolphin can't browse files on android device is related to kdeconnect package or its dolphin that can't handle it ?13:58
Riddellsoee: it's both, kdeconnect is kf5 while dolphin kdelibs4 so the ioslave isn't compatible14:00
RiddellI wonder if i should make a limited package of the old kdeconnect-kde with only ioslave and dolphin plugin in it14:01
stikonasScottK: hi, do you know anything about kde partition manager failing to start on 15.04?14:44
stikonashttps://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34454914:44
ubottuKDE bug 344549 in general "Cannot start System Manager on Vivid by the K Application Menu" [Normal,Resolved: fixed]14:44
stikonassomebody claims that it still fails even though they are running plasma 5.2.114:44
sgclarkRiddell: did my email to kubuntu-devel ever make it in?14:52
sgclarkstikonas: fwiw partitionmanager starts fine for me on 15.0414:54
stikonasI have no idea where to assign that bug...14:54
ScottKstikonas: I heard it was fixed and I heard it was not fixed.  I hope to set up a vivid system today to try it.14:58
sgclarkresizing my book as we speak :) so far so good14:59
ScottKExcellent.14:59
sgclarkwell it seems to be hanging @ 40%15:11
stikonassgclack: check details?15:21
sgclarkyeah it is definately stuck.15:21
stikonasit might be that some external tool is running that doesn't provide any means to estimate the progress15:21
sgclarkprogress is there 15:22
sgclarkresize was a success but it is stuck on moving to sector 204815:27
stikonasstrange... I don't think there were any code changes there for a long time. I personally never touched that code...15:30
sgclarkyeah it did not reformat to ext4. hmm. resize was a success though15:31
stikonasoh, reformat failed?15:32
stikonasnot moving partitions...15:32
sgclarkok it seems in the advanced there is a checkbox align partition, I think that is the point of failure15:33
stikonasok, if you can somehow reproduce it then it would be helpful to have a bug report...15:34
sgclark"Partition â/dev/sda3â is not properly aligned (last sector: 1152804929, modulo: 66)."15:34
sgclarkunchecked that box and it formatted like a champ15:37

sgclarkUSB My Book Drive if that makes a diff15:38
sgclarkwhich come with ntfs15:38
stikonasI'll see what happens on my USB flash drive...15:39
stikonaslooks like it is stuck here too15:43
stikonassglarck: btrfs works fine though...15:44
stikonassgclark: does the same happen if you run mkfs.ext4 from the terminal?15:46
stikonasactually, ext4 works here too, just takes a bit longer...15:48
sgclarkstikonas: ran that  and no errors15:48
stikonasso I can't really reproduce it15:48
stikonasat least not yet...15:48
sgclarkperhaps I just had some wierd something, let me try again..15:49
stikonasstrange, the only thing partition manager calls is mkfs.ext4 -q deviceNode15:49
sgclarkerr now the ntfs part is unknown and I can only make new partition table. Good thing it was not important lol15:53
sgclarkdunno what I did, I set it to resize then format the new partition to ext415:54
sgclarklol rejected form kubuntu-devel.. oh well16:11
