[06:17] yes [06:18] lekker [06:18] worked a double the previous day [06:18] ai! [06:18] had a late meeting last night as well with some government people [06:18] so when I got home I crashed HARD [06:18] sjoe [06:25] Software Freedom Conservancy is suing VMWare over Linux GPLv2 violations: [06:25] https://twitter.com/conservancy/status/573523944248066048 [06:25] We should all go donate to them. [06:26] morning stickyboy [06:33] Kilos: yo yoyoy [06:35] hehe [06:42] Morning, Kilos. [07:02] rump must be done on a braai and eaten there [07:02] I even cut off all the fat, knowing they hate it [07:02] next time, the fat stays [07:02] maybe they will be less likely to devour the f&%$king thing [07:02] the fat is the best part [07:02] ikr? [07:03] I got a new set of Zwilling (JA Henckel) knives for my birthday [07:04] they are SHARP [07:04] cuts through that steak like you cannot believe [07:04] good knives are worth every cent you pay for them [07:05] https://www.facebook.com/ZWILLINGJAHENCKELSLLC [07:05] I agree [07:05] I hate a blunt knife [07:05] cheap knives are for bread only [07:18] hmm... [07:23] inetpro cremora [07:23] good mornings [07:44] hi TinuvaMac [07:46] morning Kilos === TinuvaMa_ is now known as Tinuva [11:19] does anyone trust the "unattended-upgrade" package, to detect (never actually do), security updates? [11:21] We use apticron [11:22] mint update manager tells me there's a security upgrade waiting, running unattended-upgrades -d --dry-run, says no packages would be upgraded. [11:23] I suspect it is not correctly identifying security updates. checking in the mint channel too [11:24] magellanic: did you properly configure unattended-upgrades? [11:25] no, left it at default settings? [11:25] you have to tell it which apt sources to pull from [11:26] I would offer to share my config, but my local copper liberation organisation was hard at work again, so my pc is currently offline [11:26] and will be for the forseeable future if last time is any indication [11:26] it comes with a /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades which looks right? [11:27] in there I see this: "${distro_id}:${distro_codename}-security"; [11:27] which I assume would let it find security updates [11:28] I trust Ubuntu security updates not to break things [11:28] but I don't want updates on a database master, at a random time [11:28] I want to be in control of that [11:31] yeah, I'm just wondering if this tool is valid in the case for finding all your security updates, among all the pending updates. [11:32] someone I'm helping wants to do frequent updates of just security packages, leaving other stuff for later [11:34] that's what unattended-upgrade does by default [11:37] I'm on mint, it's update manager tells me there is a security update waiting, but if I run the unattended-upgrade command in dry run, it doesn't find any packages as security candidates [11:37] so I wasn't sure I should trust the tool [11:38] ah, I don't know if I'd trust mint's security updates [11:38] haha [11:38] mint also might not have customised unattended-upgrade to work with therir updates [11:40] sounds like the second case, the changelog in its tool says icu needs an update: icu (52.1-3ubuntu0.2) trusty-security; urgency=medium (SECURITY UPDATE: information disclosure via incorrect font file parsing) [11:59] that's an Ubuntu update, not a mint one [12:01] hmm, so unattended-upgrade should have found it as a security update candidate no? [12:10] All I can say is that unattended-upgrades does work if you configure it properly [12:10] but yeah, no ADSL means I'm no further help [12:11] I have mine automaticaly upgrading everything [12:13] http://slexy.org/view/s214VArrw4 [12:13] hehe [12:13] magellanic: it should [12:26] * Squirm looks around [12:26] Hello all [12:26] hi Squirm [12:26] maaz also took a break [12:26] Kilos: Excuse me? [12:38] Bye everyone , have a nice weekend , God bless [12:48] after years of threatening I'm finally going to get myself hooked up to ctwug [12:49] same here [12:49] your id is pretty damn low [12:49] 2211 [12:56] anything interesting on ctwug? I was considering also connecting [13:12] yeah I added myself 4 or 5 years ago already, there was just always something else [13:12] now that our telkom line is dead yet again i'm making a plan [13:16] is it worth joining though, one can't get internet off of there [13:29] magellanic: its not meant for internet [13:29] but there is lotsa linux distros available on ctwug [13:29] even the latest linux distros available [13:30] the linux distros i have automated via sickrage/sabnzbd will also be on it once i am connected [14:02] yeah I know it's most useful for lan gaming and file sharing [14:35] * Symmetria builds himself a network probe outta a rasberry pi 2 [14:57] probing what? [15:02] basically to run cron'ed pings and traceroutes and mtr's [15:02] and send all the data back to myself where I process it [15:02] so at a glance I can see how the network is performing from a customer perspective [15:13] ah okay, yeah [15:44] how long did it take to get your pi? did you order from rs components? === hadoop is now known as Guest95643 [17:34] i want to know what application is the best to download video files [17:34] hi Guest95643 [17:34] if you have the direct link to it use wget -c from your terminal [17:36] thanks very grateful [17:36] imo its quicker than with a browser and the -c lets it fetch only what hasnt been downloaded in case of broken connection [17:36] you welcome to visit here more often or even stay here all the time [17:37] become part of our community [17:37] i'll always visit and stay on this forum, it's really an eye opener [17:38] cool thats why we are here [17:38] you can install an IRC client then its easier [17:40] yes i have xchat already installed [17:40] cool [17:42] does it download to the present working directory ?? [17:56] it doesn't give any error, tried opening it with firefox. [17:56] file:///home/hadoop/Downloads/119403300 [17:56] this is the file name [17:56] doesnt it show as a video or jpeg or something? [17:57] do you have vlc installed [17:57] try opening it with a media player like vlc [17:58] right click and open with [17:59] it shows as a html file [17:59] not a video file [17:59] eish [17:59] did you download the right file [17:59] yes i did [18:00] what format is it in online [18:01] im not clued up with this kind of stuff but im sure someone here will have an answer [18:01] my last try would be to rename it .jpeg or some video thing [18:03] i have sent the file [18:04] to where? [19:41] no, you can't change the processor or ram on it etc [19:42] no man i mean put the py in a box instead of a motherboard [19:42] no, have you seen its size? [19:43] ya they small [19:43] comes with its own cute little casing [19:43] maybe put 2 in a box [19:43] and can you install ubuntu on it and use it like a pc [19:44] it comes with snappy core I think [19:44] but there's 2/3 roms for it I believe [19:44] yes people are already using it as a small but full functional pc [19:45] i saw a pic where they have 4 next to each other [19:45] called it a super computer [19:46] yeah, I need to get one [19:47] R350 is a good price, thats less than 4g ddr3 ram [19:47] afrihost are changing a disk for me, 2 hours no word. something seems wrong [19:47] ai! Have we decided where the Social links should be? [20:00] no we are waiting for the fly to view it but he is very busy [20:01] i like it with the social links at the bottom and opening in a new page [20:01] they still show up well in red like that i think [20:03] I see. [20:05] minetest [20:05] I know a few people who are also constantly busy. Ironically they are the ones who always make time for you.
