[00:17] Maaz: ping [00:17] Squirm: pong [04:48] morning barrydk and others [04:49] our power goes off in the next hour or so, so, you guys hold the fort [04:58] :p [05:03] hi mazal [05:04] Môre oom [05:16] More almal [05:25] see yo9u this avy guys [05:25] you as well [05:40] o.o [05:40] morning all [06:05] Molweni amabuntu [06:10] hi [06:10] how are you? [06:10] feel like a game of warthunder? [06:16] morning [06:16] actually, chat later, off to work [06:19] sorry dudes for lack of response. [06:20] ... was busy "researching" bluetooth headset/headphones. [06:20] Padroni, it's near impossible to play with a mouse. I need to borrow a joystick. (I even tried with a PS-like controller) [06:22] I play just fine with a mouse? [06:27] Padroni, my mouse is "iffy", it [06:27] ... it's one of those wireless mice you get free as corporate gifts. [06:42] hmm... can they be so late, or is it another strike day [06:44] hi ThatGraemeGuy Padroni inetpro and others too [06:44] mornings [06:47] hi Kilos / ThatGraemeGuy [06:47] hi inetpro [06:48] I have a nice gaming mouse, andrewlsd [06:48] but I use it on my desktop, which have no games installed on it [06:48] my laptop has a cheap wireless mouse [06:48] but after a while you get used to is, and you learn to play with what you got [06:49] I only play League of Legends and Warthunder [06:49] So I can't claim to be anything other than a casual gamer [06:49] lol [06:55] * mazal hears the word gaming and are suddenly awake [07:00] I was hoping to play DCS [07:00] ... flight simulator [07:00] lo andrewlsd [07:00] ... coz I just want to "fly" . [07:00] why you showing afk? [07:00] I don't have time to develop a campaign nor do I want to have my games prematurely ended by being shot down all the time. [07:01] ... I'm a total gaming noob [07:01] Hi KIlos [07:01] ... I only installed Steam to find out what the hype was all about. [07:01] lol neelsie gets lots from them [07:02] he swears by steam [07:03] Steam is awesome [07:03] Does lots of great work for gamers [07:03] Just a pitty the platform it runs on is so expensive :( [07:04] ... what, Steam platform? [07:04] pc [07:04] I only tried the free-to-play stuff [07:04] mazal, lol [07:04] No normal person can afford proper gaming pc in SA anymore [07:04] oh. [07:05] I run it on my MX14 (alienware) [07:05] A medium rig is now R13000 , without OS or software [07:05] my next door neighbour has a hectic setup. 4 screens, multiple top-of-the-line graphics cards, head tracking. [07:05] ... and an Occulus Rift [07:06] his "c" drive is a 512GB SSD. [07:06] But as far as Steam itself goes , awesome. Great specials all the time , drives converting golden oldies game remakes to HD , drives game developers to develop for linux also , etc. [07:06] They do great work [07:06] so yeah. thats serious cash. [07:06] +1 mazal [07:07] It's thanx to Steam and their Steam OS project that many big name developers are starting to develop for Linux also , like gearbox with it's Borderlands project [07:08] They even make their own servers available for online play for some of the older titles who shut down their own servers and then give you a copy of their steam version free if you have a valid disk based version and key [07:09] And their linux library is growing by the week [07:11] +1 [07:11] I gotta go [07:11] will be back later [07:11] * andrewlsd lurks [07:11] ok [07:11] but a parting gift: Google 'Humble Bundle' [07:12] I paid R70 for Battlefield 3 and 4 other games [07:12] as part of their promotions [07:12] Padroni: yeah , great deals there [07:12] later [07:12] I haven't used them much as I am not a big indy fan [07:12] * Symmetria dances around as he looks at his latest traffic stats [07:13] we finally broke the level of more than 50% of our traffic is african sourced [07:13] maaz I am hungry again , what have you got today ? [07:13] mazal: One learns a new thing every day [07:13] haha [07:13] * mazal munbels [07:14] maaz What's for breakfast ? [07:14] mazal: What? [07:14] he sees i am as a command i think [07:28] +1 Symmetria [07:45] Kilos: [07:45] pvt? [07:45] Cheers folks, am away for a bit. [07:46] Eish. I cancelled my DSTV 2 years ago. [07:46] lol [07:46] This morning I receive a mail: We noticed you recently cancelled your subscription. Do you mind doing this short survey on our service? [07:47] RECENTLY? [07:47] lol [07:47] they just woke up [07:47] lol [07:47] Africa [07:49] yeah [07:49] Afri-can't [07:54] hi8 TinuvaMac [07:58] morning Kilos [08:00] hi TinuvaMac [08:00] * Padroni is hungry [08:00] lol [08:00] * mazal too [08:01] Maaz maak 'n plan man [08:01] mazal: What? [08:01] youre mouth controls you [08:55] Maaz: I am hungry again , what [08:55] inetpro: I am hungry again , what have you got today ? [08:55] uh [08:55] Maaz: forget I am hungry again , what [08:55] inetpro: Okay [08:55] good mornings [08:56] Hi DarkSurferZA [08:56] Yo, just a sec [09:02] yo [09:05] wb DarkSurferZA [09:06] DarkSurferZA: ask staffers for a cloak at #freenode [09:09] highvoltage: thanks for mentioning apt the other day [09:10] yo inetpro , havent considered a cloak just yet. Not sure if the privacy thing is a real issue when you roam on a 3g connection. [09:11] you think it is worth it? [09:11] rather be safe [09:11] yes [09:11] some of us here makes port-scan jokes and get into trouble when we see an IP [09:11] * Padroni goes and sits in the corner again [09:12] :-) [09:12] hehe [09:12] Padroni: that's my spot [09:12] damnit [09:13] * Padroni gets up and walks away [09:13] ai! [09:15] haha, if a port scan reveals anything of note in your environment, you're going to have a bad time [09:16] indeed [09:16] * Padroni shoots another Win8 user in frustration [09:16] i usually tell lies when any of my servers are port scanned. lots of "windows" services exposed [09:20] what do you have against windows 8 man? [09:21] lol [09:21] everything has a purpose. sadly, even windows. ok, except mac. their only purpose is ... actually, what are macs good for? [09:21] the fact that I have to help them figure out their OS? [09:21] They look pretty [09:21] I think that is what they do. [09:21] gives hipsters something to aspire to [09:22] Speaking of which - I just packed up my iMac this morning. After 4 years of sitting on my desk, being unplugged [09:22] my employer decided they need it more than I do [09:22] so I am sending it back [09:23] guy, it looks pretty on the shelf. at R20k+, its a pretty expensive ornament [09:23] yes [09:23] it served a purpose to me once, I will not deny it [09:23] but I kinda evolved past OSX [09:23] it does not impress anymore [09:24] I can hear Telkom outside [09:24] re-tarring my driveway [09:24] where they dug trenches to lay new cable [09:25] had them replace most of the cable in my street last year [09:27] Good day to you all. Sorry to intrude upon your discussion. I am a local Ubuntu user and need some technical help. Is this the right channel to ask? [09:27] Yes. Go for it. [09:27] Thank you! [09:28] You have arrived. Speak your mind, son [09:28] I got an error message when I booted up my machine today. I should take 1 minute to type it out for you ... thanks [09:30] "The disk drive for /mnt/wwn-0x50004cf20ea1581f-part1 is not ready yet or not present. Continue to wait, or press S to skip mounting or M for manual recovery [09:30] I had an issue with my external USB drives yesterday, and played aroudn with a few suggestions I foudn on the web, and suspect that this has something to do with the problem [09:31] IWhat issue, and what suggestions? [09:31] Do you absolutely need the drive to be present at boot-up? If not, just skip it and fix it once you've booted. [09:32] The USB external drive would immediately and automatically remount everytime I clicked on "safely remove" [09:33] Ok, thanks Confluency, No I do not need the drive top be present. So I will be glad to fix it after I've booted. How do I fix it? [09:33] What did you do to try to fix the remounting problem? [09:34] Thats a question .... [09:35] One thing I did was change moutn settings in Disks ...... But I also ran some script (which I would have to try and retrieve now, I foudn it on some site) [09:35] sorry for my typos, I'll try to type more carefully ... [09:36] In future, I suggest that you carefully log stuff like this somewhere safe. Otherwise it will be very difficult for you or anyone else to figure out what you did aftwreards. [09:36] If you can't remember the day after, imagine trying to decipher this a year later. ;) [09:37] Thanks, that sounds intuitively right !! GRIN/Squirm .... I'll do that in future for sure [09:37] Please try to retrace your steps now and remember what you changed. There are several open bugs for drives automatically remounting. [09:38] Okay thanks, I'll do that, but it may take some time. [09:39] Check your browser history -- you may be able to find the site that way. Did you save the script somewhere? [09:40] Yes, I'll check browser history, and send the link thru when I find it. The changes I did in Disks, are more easy to remember though ... I opened "Disks", then did "Edit Mount Options" [09:41] I think Disks is a GUI interface to /etc/fstab. [09:41] Whatever script you ran may have changed those settings again. [09:45] Yes, Disks is a GUI [09:46] I know it's a GUI; I'm not sure exactly what it does under the hood. But it probably just edits /etc/fstab. [09:47] I am totally unfamiliar with /etc/fstab [09:47] so I'll take your word for it ... thanks [09:48] It's the configuration file which stores information about mounting various disks. It does look like Disks edits that file. https://www.liberiangeek.net/2014/01/daily-ubuntu-tips-mount-partitions-in-ubuntu-from-your-desktop-gui/ [09:48] A script is likely to have edited the file directly. [09:49] yes... [09:51] is there any script for changing disk mountings back to 'default'? === Webtricity is now known as Guest94488 [09:55] Confluency, is there anyway I can post a screen shot of the 'suggestion' from yesterday? [09:55] Or shall I type it out? [09:55] Its not long? [09:56] What format is it in now? [09:56] Here goes: this is what I first did: sudo apt-get install udisks [09:57] then: sudo udisks --unmount /dev/sb1 && udisks --detach /dev/sb1 [09:58] sorry thay should be: /dev/sbd1 [09:59] sorry: /dev/sdb1 !! [10:00] OK. Is that the "script"? [10:00] thats what I ran from terminal [10:01] Is that what you were talking about earlier when you said you ran a script? [10:01] Yes [10:01] I'll check and see I there was anything else [10:02] That shouldn't have changed anything permanently in your config; it's just a one-off command to unmount a drive. You do have udisks installed now; I'm trying to find out if that package also installs any kind of daemon. [10:03] I think that you will have a new service running now, but I don't know if that's going to change anything. [10:03] yes [10:03] You can probably just reverse your changes in Disks. [10:03] What version of Ubuntu do you have? [10:03] Okay Ill have a look there now [10:03] 14.04 [10:04] Have you been running Ubuntu long? Did you have the remounting problem in previous versions? === Akiva is now known as Webtricity [10:07] I had 14.04 32bit as dual boot with WinXP for long time. Just this week upgraded to 14.04 64bit, and installed virtualbox and then inside virtualboxinstalled WinXP guest. The hard drive problem only seemed to occur after I setup the Virtualbox and WinXP with gusetadditions so I could acces the drive in WinXP , [10:07] I had that same issue a while back. Was on 12.04. It happened only with a specific seagate external and was unable to find a fix unfortunately [10:08] My hard drive is a Transcend USB 3.0 [10:11] I gotta run. Laters, folks. [10:12] Hmm. I'm afraid I don't know very much about this kind of setup, which is what is likely to be the root cause of your problem. [10:12] I just noticed, my other USB external drive is mounted, but is not showing in the 'launcher' [10:13] Well, thanks for your willingness to have tried help me ... [10:14] Possibly someone else will know more about this specific issue. If you don't find help in this channel, you can also try the mailing list, or another LUG. Whereabouts in ZA are you? [10:14] I am in Pietermaritzburg, KZN [10:16] Sorry, I'm such a Newbie, which 'mailing list'? [10:16] I don't think there's an existing Linux User Group in KZN. You can try the ubuntu-za mailing list, though: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-za [10:16] Okay, thanks ..! [10:16] You can also try #ubuntu on this server -- that's the global Ubuntu help channel. [10:16] Which has > 1000 users. [10:16] Thanks confluence, appreciate it muchly [10:17] It scrolls pretty quickly, so try to summarise your problem into a coherent block of text. ;) [10:17] Thanks for your advice. I'll give your suggestions a go :-) [11:38] 'lo [11:59] guys, anyone have an opinion on docker? [12:03] looks interesting, heard good things [12:03] been meaning to try it [12:12] looks like a good product, but the architecture looks questionable [12:12] also, why docker and not openvz? [12:12] so many difficult choices [12:15] no idea, haven't compared them, what are you looking to do with it? [12:17] container based virtualisation, but everyone is all docker hyped, and i am just sitting here like, WTF man [12:18] seems like it has a bigger community [12:19] yeah, it does [12:19] but you know how popular != better [12:21] yes [12:23] yes. you want to pick a project that's well maintained/supported though, IMO [12:25] the technical bit behind docker just makes me afraid. when something is architected badly, its always going to be bad when it scales [12:28] I haven't look too much into it, what about it concerns you? [12:29] I'm interested in it mostly because google's container engine use it. [12:29] that offering is all about scale [12:30] https://cloud.google.com/container-engine/ [12:32] welcome oom [12:32] :D [12:32] ty power came again back [12:33] oh are they load shedding again [12:33] next time is in two weeks time then this area is done [12:34] na they are putting all the overhead cables to houses underground [12:34] 3ofcoins.net/2014/12/06/of-containers-docers-rockets-and-deamons [12:34] kindda sums up the bad [12:34] afternoon all [12:35] hi all [12:35] I just realized something [12:35] ohi superfly [12:35] what [12:35] also coreos.com/blog/rocket/ [12:35] my next batch of homebrewed beer will be ready on Saturday [12:35] lol [12:35] * Padroni plans on spending most of Saturday testing the new batch [12:35] belly grumbling already [12:36] you leave my belly out of this [12:36] lol [12:36] we talked abou this, Kilos [12:36] i understand docker is just a config file for a container, and openvz is the container, so shipping is quick. [12:36] "Never trust a skinny chef." [12:36] same principle for brewers [12:36] wait till your knees [ack up from carrying the belly weight all the time [12:36] pack [12:36] I weigh less than 100Kg [12:36] I think they will be fine [12:36] lol [12:37] lol [12:37] but with chef, ansible, puppet and saltstack,, the push configs into actual containers, i still dont understand why the *nix zealots havent abolished it [12:39] i mean, the criticism when there is a new gnome release gos on for months, but no comment on the fact that the docker architecture just cant scale to the end goal [12:40] rocket's points are interesting I thought [12:41] looks like they are about security though, not scaling? what do you mean when you say can't scale to the end goal [12:54] how do I automatically "identify with the services" each time I open IRC/xchat? [12:54] hi kulelu88 2days in a row. wow [12:55] ja oom. hoegaanit? [12:55] kulelu88: In the network list, edit the network and add a password [12:55] in your client you edit freenode and where you choose channels enter yor passwords below [12:55] No wait, I'm wrong - lol [12:55] You want to modify the connect commands [12:55] 2 places to enter password [12:55] oh ja. it's done in the network/server for each server [12:55] I'm thinking my znc login [12:56] hi Trixar_za [12:56] Hi Kilos [12:56] goed dankie kulelu88 en jy? [12:56] im good [12:57] I prefer HexChat these days though - it's more organized in some ways [12:57] inetpro superfly hello [12:57] And he leaves - lol [12:58] lol [12:58] trying it out [12:58] wb kulelu88 [12:58] didnt work kulelu88 [12:59] I am identified as kulelu88 [12:59] oh you havent been cloaked yet? [13:00] I was cloaked previously, but I am letting that username expire [13:00] then just cloak this one [13:00] Can we get cloaked with our own domains? [13:00] ask staff at #freenode [13:01] oom I have to wait a while before they will cloak me [13:01] wb DarkSurferZA [13:01] why? [13:01] i think that their rules [13:01] if your old nick was cloaked you can just group this one to it and it will be cloaked [13:02] that is interesting [13:06] kulelu88 there are commands to do it with [13:07] Hehehe [13:07] I just learned the power of write and wall [13:32] i dont think you can spawn up 1000 containers on a single machine using an architecture where everything runs off of a single process - as root [13:33] the security implications sound a bit ouch if one gets woops [13:53] fair enough. container engine does this across many hosts though [14:18] Was he referring to docker containers? @ magellanic [14:25] yep [14:28] magellanic: can I pick your brain about dockerfiles? [14:29] I don't have much experience with it, but go ahead [14:30] magellanic: say I create an Ubuntu + Py container that just has the basics going (python + setup tools + pip) [14:30] now I want to create a specific dockerfile for django. Do I write a dockerfile and spin it on top of the Python image to create a Django image? [14:33] first off, I'd search the current list of public images for django [14:35] magellanic: good idea [14:35] and second as you describe sounds right, build on top of the image you have, if that's appropriate [14:38] see "creating your own images" over at https://docs.docker.com/userguide/dockerimages/ [14:38] thanks [14:58] hi nlsthzn [14:59] uncle Kilos , alo :) [15:00] *sigh* - http://yro.slashdot.org/story/15/03/10/2250207/south-african-government-issues-plans-to-censor-internet [15:03] time to protest? :p [15:03] lol [15:06] take to the streets :) [15:06] as long as they dont censor irc it wont affect me [15:10] forget internet. you saw how they robbed that tv presenter on live tv!!! [15:10] lol [15:16] sharpen those toyi-toyi skills.. [15:21] Maaz tell ThatGraemeGuy Nice move adding the /spawn in so peeps can see it immediately. and your reactor switch rocks [15:21] Kilos: Okay, I'll tell ThatGraemeGuy on freenode [15:28] what is the ZA minetest server uncle Kilos ? [15:28] * nlsthzn is installing it to see what you guys have been up too [15:28] mt.donaldson.za.net [15:29] and we have a minetest channel #minetest-za [15:30] nlsthzn tell me if you spawn in the new hut please [15:31] hmmm [15:31] is it typically slow? [15:31] keeps saying item definitions [15:31] first time in takes a while [15:31] after that its better [15:32] ah ok and I am a bit away from ZA land too :p [15:32] also when you open it you untick lots of things that slow it down [15:32] let me see how to get there [15:33] in settings i only have smooth lighting ticked [15:34] * nlsthzn is sure his PC can handle what ever minetest can throw at it [15:34] except if it is coded like crap [15:34] no man it be lekker [15:34] but then I simply remove it and be on my way ;) [15:34] unticking that stuff speeds up login [15:34] mods might be, but generally the server and client is pretty well coded [15:35] I would untick the shader stuff though. Slows down stuff and is really not needed [15:35] And don't use the Linux distro's version. Use the one on launchpad :P [15:36] the ppa [15:37] ah so I have an outdated client [15:37] I have Enable Particles, 3D Clouds and Fancy Trees enabled [15:37] because it still hasn't logged in >.< [15:37] ya [15:37] :/ [15:37] Yeah 0.4.11 is the latest [15:37] stand by [15:37] And it runs pretty fast [15:37] takes under 1min to login [15:38] Faster than 0.4.10 atleast :P [15:38] upgrading now [15:39] remove that one and get the latest nlsthzn [15:39] oh ok [15:39] ;) [15:39] apt-get dist-upgrade [15:40] My server is @ rock.gigirc.com [15:40] I need to change the spawn point. Hmmm [15:40] * nlsthzn is busy logging in again [15:40] https://launchpad.net/~minetestdevs/+archive/ubuntu/daily-builds/+build/7047883 [15:41] https://launchpad.net/~minetestdevs/+archive/ubuntu/stable [15:41] is it working? [15:41] and I am in [15:41] a little hut [15:41] yay [15:42] yay [15:42] near me [15:43] *ugh* I never liked minecraft that much [15:43] lol [15:43] It's not minecraft [15:43] some thing [15:43] Well, not how mine is anyway. I never liked the whole craft part. The build part was more fun [15:44] So mine is a creative server [15:45] hi Mopkop [15:45] put all the bells and whistles on [15:45] wanna see if my PC dies [15:45] Hello all! [15:45] It will run generally well. It's the shader stuff that will slow it down to a drag [15:46] Especially if you have HD texture packs loaded [15:46] still 60fps [15:46] Amazon should really get a Kindle reader for linux. [15:48] Right - reasonable spawn point added [15:48] so are there mobs in the game? [15:48] will I die at night/ [15:48] ? [15:49] no mobs [15:49] peaceful game [15:49] Not sure about theirs, but mine has mobs. I removed the hostile ones though because they kept destroying stuff [15:49] looks good... perhaps I will join in the fun and games one day :) [15:50] go see graemes place [15:50] from the hut you choose a teleport to graeme [15:51] What your server address again@ Kilos [15:52] mt.donaldson.za.net [15:52] ... Shadow of Mordor coming to Linux... download size - just a little less than 48GB [15:52] >.< [15:53] i just go there for a few minutes everyday [15:53] but the game looks AMAZING [15:53] Oh dear, I added myself without a password [15:53] lol [15:54] minetest eats 100m an hour data [15:54] we dont bother with passwords Trixar_za [15:54] only peaceful peeps there [15:54] Depends on what you have added and what you do [15:55] Set it to public announce and you'll see why that might be a bad idea [15:55] :P [15:55] go see by ThatGraemeGuy s place he has the most funny stuffs [15:55] nono we dont want bad peeps there [15:56] i get lost in his place [15:56] Check out my server too. It spawns you in the most interesting place at the moment [15:56] link? [15:56] Just don't destroy the stuff protecting the lava stuff or it will leak out. Even if the glass has visible gaps in it [15:56] rock.gigirc.com [15:57] Hmmm [15:57] lots of 404 errors [15:58] When last did you guys update the mods and server? [16:00] last week i think [16:01] why you getting errors [16:01] something wrong by you [16:01] mt.donaldson.za.net [16:02] your place looks good with all the lava stuffs [16:02] No, it's fetch errors. So it's your side :P [16:02] fetch what? [16:03] i go in fine and neelsie is there atm i think [16:04] Mostly I've just been experimenting with the water and lava containment ability of glass panels [16:05] You can leave gaps people can walk through because technically it's a complete 'block' that's there even if it doesn't look or act like it [16:05] Curl fetch [16:05] It's how the server sends the client the mod and block data [16:05] i dunno about that stuff man [16:05] i work the hard way [16:06] Could just be my lag though... [16:06] i have nearly no lag there [16:06] you on adsl? [16:07] * nlsthzn was there [16:07] No, 3G - maybe I shoudl switch to my phone [16:07] * nlsthzn isn't there now :p [16:07] lol [16:08] broadband or stay away is my motto when it comes to gamign [16:08] graeme will tell you to get a decent connection [16:08] But you might notice that I kind of optimize my server so while it might be slightly slow with the initial media download (takes a few minutes), it runs pretty slightly and I can play it even on EDGE :P [16:08] ya 3g is too expensive [16:09] ya i saw it was lekker [16:09] graeme probably needs to decide what mods are useful and which are not :P [16:09] didnt take a minute to login i think [16:10] Hmmm [16:11] go look at graems place and see all the stuff he has [16:12] and quarries all over and automated planters and harvesters i think [16:12] and teleport tubes for ores from quarry [16:17] wb Mopkop [16:18] Maaz seen inetpro [16:18] Kilos: inetpro was last seen 7 hours, 4 minutes and 40 seconds ago in #ubuntu-za on freenode [2015-03-11 02:13:20 PDT], and has been offline on freenode since 2015-03-11 08:36:49 PDT [16:18] ai! [16:18] what did he break now [16:18] Graeme probably needs to minimize his stuff [16:18] his media download is huge [16:18] No wonder you use 100MB an hour :P [16:18] lol [16:19] (Since the initial download is already a large chunk of that) [16:19] he has stuff underground too [16:19] Also I had to go offline and quickly buy airtime because of stupid 8ta [16:19] ai! 8ta rocks here [16:19] i got 4g [16:19] I lost about R11 because 8ta now stops using paid data at around 8MB and apparently R3 of free airtime [16:20] On the 2GB+1GB promo now [16:20] wow mine uses all data and doesnt touch airtime [16:21] Let's try this again [16:21] On a 7.2Mb/s 3G modem :P [16:21] ya me too [16:21] Now the modem only needed 4MB? [16:22] Probably already cached the previous data - lol [16:22] ya must be [16:22] first time logins always take a while [16:23] you got wolves running around at your place [16:31] Yeah, I see you have sheep and mice too [16:32] lol them we eat [16:32] Get chicken instead [16:32] heal you quick if you lose hearts [16:32] Mine's creative, so you can just get yourself fried chicken and heal like that [16:32] :P [16:32] lol [16:33] thats cheating [16:33] The admin armor used to heal you too, but somehow I broke that [16:33] Also why a reactor? [16:33] power [16:33] we got 3 [16:33] I thought it was fake [16:33] But it wasn't [16:33] lol [16:34] one of mine is turned off [16:34] you need power to run all the mv machines we have [16:34] Did you notice my sneak jump elevator? [16:34] no [16:34] was too busy ducking wolves [16:35] what game is that? [16:35] minetest [16:36] multiplayer online? [16:36] ya [16:36] lol - the wolves don't kill you unless you attack them [16:36] lol [16:36] Actually, you can turn them into wardogs by giving them meat [16:36] sjoe [16:36] what server are you guys on? [16:37] mt.donaldson.za.net [16:37] so I DL minetest and join that server? [16:37] you install the app [16:38] https://launchpad.net/~minetestdevs/+archive/ubuntu/stable [16:38] Same with the spiders [16:39] Catch a bee and feed it to the spider and it becomes a warspider - it tries to follow you around, but the AI is pretty dumb [16:39] no man i cant keep watching fore goggas all over [16:39] did a local fellow build that game? [16:39] a group of us [16:39] we played for some months till we were broke [16:39] I see minetest in ubuntu software centre [16:40] thats old [16:40] what version are you guys using? [16:40] i use https://launchpad.net/~minetestdevs/+archive/ubuntu/daily-builds/+build/7047883 [16:40] 4.10 or 4.11 [16:41] does anybody use a nokia symbian phone? [16:41] Minetest 0.4.11 [16:41] software centre runs on 0.4.9 [16:42] ya too old i think [16:42] Evening [16:42] hi Squirm [16:43] You should check out luke's castle @ Kilos [16:43] He built it in the sky :P [16:43] I shall be joining soon [16:43] tonight in fact [16:43] lol we have something in the sky as well [16:43] forget what [16:43] Trixar_za: don't break my house [16:44] Your house? [16:44] we havent added a teleport thing to him yet [16:44] on minetest [16:44] Where's your house? :P [16:44] lol [16:44] I have no idea [16:45] Well [16:45] west of mine [16:45] Follow the sun rise [16:45] from the main area [16:45] If it's near the old spawn area... [16:47] hi Tonberry_ [16:47] hi [16:48] can somebody http://pastee.org the instructions for how to join the minetest server? [16:48] have you installed the game kulelu88 [16:49] I shall do so later. I am on-shift now [16:49] once installed it easy [16:49] well be here [16:49] but we should chat minetest on #minetest-za [16:50] the pro will ai! us again [16:50] its the same folks here and there :-/ [16:50] Hmmm - still don't see it Squirm [16:50] lol [16:50] ya but it doesnt spam our community channel [16:54] Pro can ai me all he wants [16:54] Squirm: Is it the rainbow one? [16:54] no man hes battling [16:54] No [16:54] 1sec [16:56] How do I find out where I am [16:56] Can't bring up that little bar thing [16:57] with t you mean [16:57] F5? [16:58] Thanks Trixar_za [16:58] 93.3 [16:58] 24.5 [16:58] 188.6 [16:58] As they appear, left to right [16:59] you should see each others nicks in white if you look around [16:59] i go eat [17:00] Oh, you probably mean on Graeme's server [17:00] :P [17:00] Yes? [17:01] Because at mine there's just a stone tower thingy [17:01] /teleport is fun [17:01] lol [17:01] What server do you have? [17:06] It's a minetest server based on the latest github build [17:06] You should rather ask what mods I have :P [17:11] Side note - I want reactors now [17:17] Oh hey Squirm, it's working [17:20] I just had to use a hoe *snicker* [17:24] lol [17:25] major job that Trixar_za [17:25] oh you just create them [17:25] Creative server yeah - I just will it and it's there - lol [17:25] making the uranium sticks is a major job [17:26] all those things that refine the uranium took weeks to build [17:29] are you in our game now? [17:29] Trixar_za ^ [17:30] you must go see flys ship as well [17:31] No Kilos [17:31] Also yours is a little heavy - lol [17:31] you should just look man, even iff slowly [17:31] will give you ideas for your [17:31] s [17:32] go from the travel hub to all the places on it [17:34] btw Trixar_za, moving to linode [17:34] Gives me what I want and it's cheaper [17:34] Ok [17:35] Just don't use the Japanese one :P [17:35] Will let you know how things go this week [17:35] It's hosted in London [17:35] Ok - cool [17:35] Supposedly best latency to SA [17:35] Kilos: Where is this ship thing [17:35] dam [17:36] and graemes pyramid [17:39] teleporting is the answer for long distances [17:42] The Pyramid is easy to make though [17:42] look inside [17:42] and under [17:42] Under? [17:43] in the centre is a water thing you go into and then go down [17:46] How do you even get into the pyramid [17:46] haha that was a tunnel somewhere on on of the sides [17:46] didnt the hub take you inside [17:47] No, it drops you outside [17:47] ai! [17:47] ill login when kulelu88 gets there [17:48] Oh, the tunnel was blocked with sand [17:48] Somebody probably thought it was funny [17:49] ai! [17:50] There's nothing in the middle thing [17:51] wait im coming [18:01] wb inetpro [18:01] what broke [18:02] ai! [18:02] thanks Kilos, did I miss anything? [18:02] na [18:02] we missed you [18:02] See, he went ai anyway [18:02] lol [18:03] ai! means hes having probs or someone broke something he has to fix [18:04] or the logs are too much to read [18:04] Well as far as he knows I'm completely innocent [18:04] ya me too [18:04] Although I have to say, your minetest is very heavy - that's why it uses so much data [18:05] but he is very nosy so will check im sure [18:05] Mine uses like 1/3 of the data for the same time period [18:05] ya it killed us data wise [18:05] but dont forget ours is large hey [18:05] the deep is a mine 5ks down [18:08] It's something more. The server hits you harder. The client uses more resources [18:08] oh [18:08] can that be sorted? [18:09] if we could cut data use then lots of thew old team will play again [18:10] Maybe - but it looks like you guys started with an older base and just kept adding to it to keep compatibility with the old map [18:10] oh ya [18:10] Trixar_za: maybe it was Padroni [18:10] :-) [18:11] was an old map that was edited to get new ores closer to home [18:11] Padroni? [18:13] I'd probably start by updating the server and mods and figure out which mods aren't needed anymore and can be removed without breaking compatibility with current content. Even updated mods can have errors. [18:13] A lot of the mobs that was needed for the older servers is now included with the main server too [18:14] mods* [18:14] oh [18:14] thats big work [18:16] Also - GROW MY WHEATY DARLINGS [18:16] :P [18:17] huh? [18:17] I planted wheat [18:17] lol [18:18] I also made a little sky walking trick [18:19] haha [18:19] If used correctly you can actually get down without getting hurt [18:20] ya i flew once in that creative mode [18:20] The last one is tricky because you have to aim to land on the picket fence [18:20] Nah, it's designed to work without fly. It's glass skylight blocks [18:21] then it was some function graeme gave me for a bit [18:21] was nice for cutting tops off tall trees [18:23] we built that whole world starting with picks and shovels [18:23] started like cavemen' [18:24] Yeah [18:24] WorldEdit makes it much easier [18:25] Well, WorldEdit and fly :P [18:25] WorldEdit actually has a weird effect where it doesn't activate physics for blocks unless you build as close as one block away from it [18:26] so you can technically have air filled spots underwater [18:26] or have sand 'float' at enterences or gaps [18:27] sjoe [18:27] Although for lava or water the physics resets at reboot too and for a few other stuff [18:27] so physics catch up quickly then [18:29] * Kilos waits for #minetest-za [18:29] and ai! [18:30] Kilos: when last did you go to trello? [18:30] inetpro what is broken [18:30] this morning [18:30] why you not doing thing there? [18:30] i did [18:30] i archived something [18:30] hehe [18:31] uh [18:31] i had power off today as well [18:31] excuses, excuses [18:31] lol [18:31] where are the other two? [18:32] what did you guys break [18:32] nah, think it was a line issue [18:32] its gonna break more often if they censor the internet [18:32] musta happened just when I turned my back to go home [18:32] ah [18:33] Kilos: inetpro was last seen 7 hours, 4 minutes and 40 seconds ago in #ubuntu-za on freenode [2015-03-11 02:13:20 PDT], and has been offline on freenode since 2015-03-11 08:36:49 PDT [18:34] i dunno when pdt is [18:34] 17:36] [18:34] date -d '2015-03-11 08:36:49 PDT' [18:34] Wed Mar 11 17:36:49 SAST 2015 [18:34] thats when you died [18:35] was actually before that [18:35] that's when inetpro timed out [18:35] thats when you left my channel [18:35] ya him [18:35] he is you [18:35] the real time was more like 17:32 [18:36] ah [18:36] so you even ping timeout in slow motion [18:39] hi Dirtydeedsman [18:40] lol that nick doesnt promote trust very easliy [18:42] ha ha ha got it from an Old Swazzeneeger moovie called The Eraser [18:43] Not sure actually if it was swazzeeeeennnngerererrrr or Van Dame [18:44] lol [18:45] another one that needs a cloaked ip [18:47] are there any programmers here? want to learn a language [18:47] ya there are [18:47] learn python [18:47] got basic python coding and matlab but thinking either java or C whats better or easier? [18:48] asl nuvolari about java , he is our java man [18:48] s/asl/ask [18:48] and ask inetpro or superfly what else to do [18:49] Squirm: Digital Ocean is cheaper than Linode [18:49] what what what? [18:49] kulelu88: Will have a look into it [18:49] even tumbleweed or highvoltage can advise you [18:49] and Squirm is the redhat man [18:50] I found 1 cheaper than DO also. Although last time I got burned with another company and I complained repeatedly to their card processor till they got struck off [18:50] Kilos: not really anymore [18:50] oh my [18:50] eeuww dont use words such as Java here [18:50] lol [18:50] nuvolari likes it and is good at it [18:51] Got audited by RedHat because we have a slightly illegal modification of Red hat enterprise running anf they didnt like that [18:51] kulelu88: only difference, is with DO you get 6Gb more DIsk space [18:52] lol Dirtydeedsman [18:52] Squirm: Ferris Beuller's Day Off - Nice choice :P [18:52] Trixar_za: Yeah [18:52] and it's for the girlfriend - But I'll definitely watch it again [18:52] I hear the captonians are building their own power stations now and in 2020, if Helen still doesn't step down, they are going to annex and become the republic of the cape [18:53] lol [18:53] Speaking of which, better delete. Took a while to do [18:53] Hmm [18:53] wait [18:53] I lie [18:53] after tonight [18:53] Looking at Cape Town isnt it like its own country already? [18:53] Check out War Games from the same era [18:54] Dirtydeedsman: They try and be [18:54] kulelu88: I saw that [18:54] I couldn't live amongst so many hipsters [18:54] and that winter [18:54] lol [18:54] lived there for a week, hated it [18:54] The hipsters I can deal with [18:54] otherwise, if they had feb weather year-round, i'd be there! [18:54] I will soon experience my first winter [18:55] I've lived here for almost 5 months now, been good [18:55] But haven't had a winter [18:55] rains all winter [18:55] was in a horrible place called Claremont and no one sleeps [18:55] I moved from a freezing cold winter, to a wet winter [18:55] Dirtydeedsman: That's kind of were I want to move to :P [18:55] Squirm: If it's for the girlfriend, get The Breakfast Club - for some reason girls love it [18:55] Well, not *too* Claremont, but closer [18:56] Trixar_za: will have a look into it [18:56] It's a good movie, but I didn't expect the reaction I got from a 25 year old - lol [18:56] Trixar_za: Escape from Monkey Island? Really? [18:56] at this age? [18:56] Yes [18:56] between claremont and observatory? [18:56] I have 1, 2 and 3 [18:57] I just need escape to complete it [18:57] Kennilworth [18:57] Or... Somewhere like Harfield village [18:57] there is a mall there.....good ribs at the spur [18:57] what is this term "girlfriend" you speak of? that is some foreign alien language on IRC [18:57] But first, I want to see if I can't make it a little smaller [18:57] kulelu88: she lives 2000km away, so... pretty much [18:58] iso2bin and ecm might be useful :P [18:58] as long as you didn't meet her on IRC and she is a "she" [18:58] kulelu88: both true [18:58] well [18:58] Met her irl and she's a she [18:59] I can promise you that..... [18:59] even Trixar_za has met her :P [18:59] Yeah - when they were on holiday here [18:59] let me download minetest and become a digital engineer [19:00] Still have to meet ThatGraemeGuy [19:00] and superfly [19:00] what do you guys think of this web censorship by the FPB? [19:00] Squirm: Are you 24/25 years old (iirc) ? [19:00] Squirm: heh. and we live around the corner from each other [19:01] superfly: yeah... well... used to [19:01] Squirm: you moved? [19:01] 1.5 weeks ago unfortunatly [19:01] Ah. Where to? [19:01] Not too far up [19:01] Plumstead [19:02] is there cheap rentals + +10MB internet anywhere in the cape? superfly Squirm [19:02] Little room with a separate entrance and an en-suite [19:02] Squirm: ah, OK [19:02] and free net and water and electricity [19:02] and super cheap [19:02] nice! [19:02] kulelu88: rentals? [19:02] and not in the crazy ass house that I used to stay in [19:03] rental rate? Squirm [19:03] Own flat, or shared? [19:04] superfly: apartment, outbuilding [19:04] uh [19:04] kulelu88: gotcha. dunno. checked gumtree? [19:04] you can get a bachelor flat for R3500, if you're lucky [19:04] yeah, everything is expensive [19:04] well that isn't [19:04] I found one [19:04] but then I have this [19:05] but generally that's R3500 excl electricity [19:05] and with no net [19:05] R3500 will get you a shared house, maybe R4000 somewhere decent enough to have net [19:05] apartments go for R4500, excl water and electricity and obviously net [19:05] relatively speaking , it is kind of cheap [19:06] R4500 might be a little cheap [19:06] kulelu88: http://www.gumtree.co.za/s-houses-flats-for-rent/southern-suburbs/v1c9078l3100008p1 [19:07] Tell me how the winter is and I can try in september Squirm :D [19:07] kulelu88: will do. Where are you based now? [19:07] lol cold and wet [19:08] PTA/JHB [19:08] at all costs, I want to avoid winter [19:09] oom did you surf in june back at the coast? :P [19:09] in durban ya [19:09] Kilos: I'm in Durbs this weekend LD [19:09] :D [19:09] in the cape i cant touch the water in summer [19:10] Kilos: I swam [19:10] once.. [19:10] Then I gave up [19:10] I have a pool at this house I can use now though [19:10] lol that water is same as fridge water squirm [19:10] they say you need a wetsuit for the cold water [19:10] kulelu88: not in summer [19:10] yes even in summer in the cape [19:10] but it's a little more pleasant with a wetsuit [19:10] in durbs you dont need one ever [19:10] I was fine without one [19:11] But Cape Town summer sea is about the same, maybe a little colder than Durban winter sea === Zarw is now known as Wraz [19:11] some people say that a lot of capetonians are relocating to Balito. [19:11] Squirm you must have some dolphin blood then [19:11] ug [19:11] Ask nuvolari about ballito :D [19:11] it's full of development [19:12] people swarming in for the last 5/6 years [19:12] Estate after estate [19:12] it's kind of like the lekker KZN weather without the filth that Durban has [19:12] Yeah [19:12] True [19:12] but then I guess I'd live like Salt Rock [19:12] Or Umdloti [19:12] Let me rather try there :D [19:12] maybe not as far as Zinkwazi though [19:13] kulelu88 its even warmer further north [19:13] I've been to Richard's Bay once, many years ago [19:13] It was over 40 :/ [19:13] the swimming pool water was too hot [19:14] lol yqa [19:14] around 28-33 is fine. [19:14] and the harbour ocean was shark and chrocodile infested :/ [19:14] crocodile? Is that possible? [19:14] I'm craving something sweet [19:14] * Squirm makes a mission to the shops [19:14] kulelu88: yep [19:14] many crocs on the north coast [19:14] I didn't know crocodiles could swim in ocean water [19:15] I think it depends on the croc [19:15] Like certain fresh-water sharks [19:15] st lucia has crocs and hippos between the fishermen [19:15] Bull shark I think [19:15] St. Lucia is infested with everything [19:15] lol [19:15] and Sharks on their coastline [19:15] :/ [19:15] You don't swim there [19:15] i worked there for 6 months [19:15] ok *out* [19:16] * Squirm shosp [19:16] mosquitos carry you around at night [19:16] and have caught zambezi sharks about 1.5k from the estuary mouth [19:17] shark is actually very lekker to eat [19:17] :D [19:17] no bones [19:18] Neo31: are you new? [19:18] Neo31 is from tunisia [19:19] aah [19:19] cool [19:19] i scrounged him for my africa channel [19:19] #ubuntu-africa [19:23] seems like IT peeps work more and longer hours than normal peeps [19:23] Especially when they break stuff. [19:23] lol [19:24] I burnt the severs jsut before christmas, then worked all chistmas holidays once to fix it before people got back and noticed, and are not able to do their work :P [19:24] Now I work on the trains ;0 [19:25] Choo Chooo [19:25] my holiday starts tomorrow [19:25] lol [19:25] enjoy [19:25] no more trains for two weeks. [19:26] literal trains? [19:27] Yes. [19:28] engineer? [19:28] 6 / 7 18.8meter cars, yes, Engineer. [19:29] gotta love the engineers [19:29] Making you late for work for over 150 years. [19:30] lol [19:31] Hey [19:32] lol Wraz [19:32] !¡! H £ L L Ò {§{* SQUIRM *}§} H £ L L Ò !¡! [19:32] Whoops [19:32] hi [19:32] wow [19:32] Wraz: Where abouts are you based then? [19:32] lol [19:33] how did you do that? [19:33] London [19:33] looks like something from mIRC [19:33] Wraz: nice [19:33] Where abouts? [19:45] gotta take Germany into account and the USA [19:46] oh ya [19:46] I used tons of sites and updated my cv on all of them every day, I think I got my job off Monster. com recoomended to me by my boet who also got a good job off there. [19:47] Yeah time zones around the world, they are wierd. [19:47] sounds like me in SA. unhirable :D [19:47] ya we had to meet at our midnight for ubuntu membership [19:47] kulelu88 are you on our mailing list [19:48] nope. Are you guys using the LUG mailing lists? [19:48] there was a job today and last week and hetzner take interns or whatever they call it [19:48] no man our list [19:48] I tried them. mustnt apply there. they just post jobs cause they have to and recruit internally [19:48] look in our site [19:49] ubuntu-za@lists.ubuntu.com [19:49] Problem with taking those jobs is they are a trap, and you loose time and money, most jobs have 3 - 6 months minimum term... and if you take it on low pay, just to have a job to pay the bills. you get stuck in a rut and come out in 6 months with even more outdated skills. [19:49] Meh, I stop preaching ^^ [19:50] “Selfie sticks” have now been banned at a French palace and a British museum, joining a growing list of global tourist attractions to take such measures [19:50] lol Wraz, sometimes [19:50] * Squirm shrugs [19:50] I reckon it's time to get into bed with popcorn and something to watch [19:50] I didn't know what selfie stick was until recently [19:50] kulelu88: good [19:50] i still dont [19:50] kulelu88: the only thing they're good for, is taking pictures above crowds [19:51] at anything other than yourself [19:51] ah [19:51] kulelu88 https://ubuntu-za.org/ [19:51] Kilos: http://www.getdatgadget.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/640x480xLooq-Extended-Selfie-Arm-with-Auto-Shutter.jpg.pagespeed.ic.d8Xntqul47.jpg [19:51] there is a link in there to our mailing list [19:52] Although, to be fair, I think this is epic [19:52] https://blog.chinavasion.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Selfie-Stick.jpg [19:52] hahaha [19:53] todays one in our list was for a senior Linux administrator [19:54] dunno how old you must be for that [19:54] Lol [19:54] or what qualifications they want [20:00] hey guys ill see ya all tomorrow [20:00] night all. sleep tight [20:01] inetpro fixit [20:03] I'm off [20:03] cheers [20:14] Night Squirm
