=== commandoline_ is now known as commandoline === commandoline is now known as Guest13074 [07:09] morning all [08:21] !lococouncil [08:21] The LoCo Council is coolbhavi, costales, jose, SergioMeneses, skellat, PabloRubianes, and nhaines - they are there to help, just ask! :) You can send them an email at loco-council@lists.ubuntu.com [08:26] Hi there, what happens if a local community is not satisfied with the performance of a loco team? [08:30] morning dholbach [08:30] hi CtrlC [08:30] good morning [08:30] hi Kilos [08:32] Kilos: Hi. [08:35] CtrlC just an idea, have you tried encouraging them to do better? [08:35] or helping them [08:37] always best to try avoid conflict first [08:37] Kilos: Yes but no changes. [08:37] where are you? [08:37] Yes. I'm not trying to conflict. Just asking to know what happens. [08:38] Kilos: let's not to mention anybody. Ok? [08:38] many peeps have been busy the last year or so and just dont seem to have time anymore [08:38] im just asking because im am trying to revive all the locos in africa [08:39] Kilos:I'm not in africa. Asia. [08:40] then hang here till one of the council members gets a break [08:40] Kilos: OK, Thanks.:) [08:53] I got disconnected. Anything for me? [08:53] not yet [08:53] ill keep an eye open here for you [09:01] Thanks.:) [09:02] np [10:32] Oh god! I don't know what's wrong with my network. [10:32] Asking again: [10:32] what happens if a local community is not satisfied with the performance of a loco team? [10:32] hehe [10:38] CtrlC you have to be very patient, some one will answer sooner or later and ill ping you [10:39] Kilos: Thank you. I'm just here. Going no where.:) [10:39] remember some are in other time zones [10:39] some havent woken up yet [10:42] Kilos: Never had any similar question here? [10:43] i have only been here a few months so still leaning myself [10:44] but just looking at the state of things in africa, everyone seems to have faded quiet a bit [10:44] only 8 of the 18 locos are still going [10:45] Kilos: What happend to the other 10? [10:46] happened * [10:46] im trying to find them one at a time, but the contact peeps dont even answer their emails [10:48] lol the first contact i made was with nairobilug and from there im slowly finding ubuntu users all over [10:49] What are you planning to do then? I mean after contacting/finding them? [10:54] i have made an irc channel to get them all together and nag them there [10:54] lol [10:55] #ubuntu-africa [10:55] but everyone is so busy its mostly a quick hello that keeps us in contact [10:57] oh and a wiki page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AfricanTeams [10:58] Nice. [12:06] Kilos: Now I get what do you mean by "be patient". [12:13] lol [12:16] CtrlC are your loco team ubuntu members? [12:17] i dont know if there is a reprimand clause in the system [12:18] we are all supposed to work together imo [12:19] those that dont want to should move over and make space for those that do [12:29] I don't know what do you mean by "are your loco team ubuntu members?" I guess that's not a complete sentence? [12:30] oh sorry, i mean official ubuntu members [12:30] Yes. [12:30] ah then the council can talk to them i think [12:31] most peeps are reasonable [12:33] Kilos: Maybe they should find a way to kinda monitor what this kind of members do. I know it's hard due to different languages. But not impossible. [12:34] becoming an ubuntu member is not easy in the forst place, so they must have been commited to the cause to start with. [12:34] the trick is in finding what changed [12:35] s/forst/first [12:35] Well all it needs is to other members choose you. And they always choose people like themselves. [12:35] no man [12:36] Yes! It's what I saw. [12:36] official ubuntu members get in by showing some contribution to ubuntu on the whole [12:36] you might just have personal hassles there [12:36] Kilos: So you mean it has nothing to do with other members? [12:37] to become an official ubuntu member you need to appear before the members committee [12:38] members arent voted in by friends locally [12:39] http://askubuntu.com/questions/16403/how-to-get-ubuntu-membership [12:41] Kilos: Look I see people in my local ubuntu member group that didn't contribute anything! They just sometimes show up in ubuntu forum. [12:41] It's how it works: [12:41] well lets hear what one of the council guys has to say about it [12:42] you will find favouritism in local groups yes , thats human nature [12:42] You make a page on wiki about yourself and then if other members vote for yes, you'll become one. [12:43] you can always in the meetime join other groups [12:44] in ubuntu-za we have guys in the UAE and the states and the UK as well [12:44] Yes, but maybe the council should somehow monitor them. You know to at least find out if they're not causing community members to leave the community. [12:44] and some from the rest of africa have joined us too [12:44] Kilos: Didn't know about that! [12:46] one must join where one feels welcome and can get help and help others that need help [12:46] Kilos: yes and not to make community members leave. :P :D [12:47] yes thats a bad attitude [12:49] if you need help with something to do with ubuntu and most linux pop in at #ubuntu-za and someone will help you [12:49] but also patience is needed , the guys are very busy too [12:54] Kilos: Thats so kind of you. [12:55] Tell me more about the members which are not in your country. Are they african or what?:/ [12:55] we welcome and help where we can [12:55] some are in tunisia [12:56] and egypt andcameroon and so on [12:56] Kilos: I mean maybe they're local but moved to other countries, [12:56] .* [12:56] Are they? [12:56] some have moved yes [12:56] others just joined [12:57] Nice. So whay they didn't join their local group? [12:58] some belond to many things [12:58] we even had some from russia visit for help [12:59] Oh! [12:59] how are we supposed to promote ubuntu if we just stick in our local community === czajkows1i is now known as czajkowski [13:27] CtrlC, just e-mail them at lococouncil@ubuntu.com It might be faster that way
