craigbass76Someone slap me.  I installed kubuntu-desktop because I wanted a look at KDE (it's been years) and now that I'm back in xfce, I can't seem to make things look like they did (panel colors, icons) before I gave KDE a whirl.  Is there a way to reset things?01:24
craigbass76Am I using kde icons or something now by default?01:25
holsteincraigbass76: i would try purging what kubuntu-desktop installed, and just see what "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop" installs, or setsup01:25
holsteincraigbass76: i would also see what session im choosing at login..01:25
craigbass76holstein, I've tried xubuntu and xfce; they both look the same.  apt-get purge kubuntu-desktop ?01:25
holsteincraigbass76: you can try.. or autoremove.. sudo apt-get autoremove kubuntu-desktop01:26
craigbass76holstein, thanks -- it did the trick.  I think KDE took over and I was using its icons and skins (well sort of -- I couldn't seem to change my panel colors) instead of XFCE's.01:31
holsteincraigbass76: you can just install kde, and not use the kubuntu-desktop metapackage01:37
holsteini have better luck mixing those together..01:37

UllarahCameronE, I'm not sure what you mean about going walkabouts, is whiskermenu on a panel, and clicking on it yeilds no menu, is that correct?08:26
CameronEWalkabouts==missing==MIA==etc08:26
CameronEI had it bound to ctrl+esc and now I get the following message:08:26
CameronEFailed to execute child process "xfce4-popup-whiskermenu" (No such file or directory)08:26
CameronEObviously xfce4-popup-whiskermenu is the action I am trying to execute08:27
UllarahCameronE, try from terminal: /usr/bin/xfce4-popup-whiskermenu08:28
CameronEUllarah, just does nothing.08:28
CameronE..hang on08:28
UllarahCameronE, try re-installing xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin08:29
CameronElooks like I was half way through tshooting yesterday and forgot where I was up to... I have just installed xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin again (must have removed it yesterday)08:29
CameronElet me relog08:29
Ullarah:)08:29
CameronEOkay, Ullarah, had a bit of an unstable moment on logout... let's not talk about that!08:35
CameronERunning both shortcut and from the cli does nothing now08:36
Ullarah:/08:36
CameronExfce-wiskermenu-popup is in /usr/bin though08:36
CameronEWeird because I didn't even touch it :(08:37
UllarahThe only thing would be to remove it from the panel, purge the plugin, restart, and reinstall the plugin.08:37
CameronE.... okay you just fixed my problem...08:38
CameronEI had the wrong app menu in panel08:38
CameronEDid not realise that's how it worked.08:38
CameronEThanks :P08:38
UllarahAlways the simple things CameronE! ^_^08:40
CameronEDon't think you understand how good it is to have that menu back!08:40
UllarahI don't use whiskermenu, I use the standard menu with no icons :P08:41
CameronEI just like being able to quickly type what I want08:42
UllarahThat's where the application finder comes in handy.08:42
UllarahALT+R or SUPER+R or whatever your key is :P08:42

CameronESo I was using that (although didn't know the shortcut for it, as I hadn't gotten that desperate) and don't really like to have to 'double-enter' when I've located the desired app08:44
UllarahI normally know what I'm looking for so I type in the path :P08:44
UllarahI'm much more of a CLI person.08:45
CameronEahh, yeah, this is a work machine so most of my tasks are done through a browser08:46

CameronEAlthough, looking at the source may have been my work's firewall breaking it :P08:49
UllarahWell if you are ever feeling bored, just leave the website open CameronE :P08:54
CameronEHaha yeah there's a few good videos on there.. is it playing a certain playlist?08:56
UllarahCameronE, I update it every now and then with weird and wonderful videos.09:02
UllarahIt's not running a playlist or anything, just simply grabs the video from youtube and plays it.09:02

msev_regarding the mail watch plugin -> i'm getting a 401 error (unauthorized), even tho the password and username is correct? anyone else experiencing this?10:34
UllarahAnybody know why the Application Finder is using old launchers? Is there a cache I have to clear or something?11:56
UllarahHover over it, and it says "exec ./start.sh" but it should actually be "exec ./starthere.sh", but if I right click and go edit, it actually says "exec ./starthere.sh"11:56
UllarahNevermind, fixed it by just recreating the .desktop file :/12:07
knobGood morning everyone.12:14
knobQuestion:  In Unity, I had a "workflow" for grabbing screenshots.   Now with Xubuntu... I think I have a setting wrong or something.           Here is what I used to do:12:15
knobI would PrintScreen... then select the "Copy to the clipboard".     I would then head over to GIMP, and paste the image.              Yet now, when I paste in GIMP, I get an error message stating    "There is no image data in the clipboard to paste."12:16
knobIs this something to do with a setting... or should I go about it a different way?12:16
zokpknob, open screenshooter, choose Save to clipboard12:18
knobzokp, I hit the PrintScreen key, and a window pops up  (Titled "Screenshot").     From there, I have four radio buttons under "Action".        The first one is Save, and the second one states  "Copy to the clipboard."12:19
knobI select the second one, then head over to gimp, and get the error message.12:19
knobIs that what you are refering to?12:20
zokpyes :/12:21
knobOk... double checking all my steps...   maybe I am hitting something wrong.12:21
knobWow no.12:25
knobI did it with the mouse, instead of the keyboard... and same error.12:25
knobI don't get it.12:25
knobI hit the PrintScreen key... screenshot window comes up.       I select "Copy to clipboard".             Then when I go paste into GIMP... nothing12:26
krytarikknob: You need to click OK after selecting it.12:26
knobkrytarik, tried that too.12:26
krytarikWell, works here.12:26
knob1st, it was with the radio button for Copy to clipboard, then hit Enter.12:27
knob2nd, radio button at Copy to clipboards.... then clicked with the mouse "OK".12:27
knobYet GIMP is still erroring out12:27
knobTried pasting into Writer, and no image comes up.12:27
knobI must be either doing something wrong, on have a wrong setting somewhere12:27
elfymmm - see the same12:36
elfybut in Gimp if Paste As New Image it works12:37
elfyas does (from screenshot) Open With Gimp - though that might be in vivid screenshot not sure12:38
elfydoesn't paste in LO Writer here either12:39
knobYes... I select "Open with Gimp"... it opens up gimp just fine, and off it goes12:44
knobWhich I wouldn't have a problem... yet the radio button for "open with gimp" is not selectable with the keyboard,... you have to use the mouse cursor12:44
knobNot sure what ... what is going on.  What did I change... or break12:44
Pici /3612:48
elfythat's a good break Pici - I can never manager more than 1 :p12:49
Pici;)12:49
elfyI can select open with, then tab to choices then up/down to choose gimp12:54
elfybut that's beside the point - seems to be a bug somewhere anyway12:54
elfyas you CAN open with or Paste As New image - just not paste :)12:55
knobWell the "Paste As New Image" inside GIMP does not work for me.   I use its shortcut, Shift + Ctrl + V            ... and then GIMP thinks about it for like 15-20 seconds, and returns the "Empty clipboard" error message12:58
knobI am googling some stuff now... see if I can come up with... somethign12:58
knobI don't know if I should install a package to see if it fixes it.   Something like clipman or parcelite13:12
knobInteresting... if I check unider "Accessories", I have two entries for Screenshot13:13
knobAlright... have some odd progress13:23
knobUnder Accessories, I have two entries for "Screenshot".     The first open screenshot "type1"... and the second "type2".   They are both screenshot capture programs... yet slightly different both.13:24
knobAfter opening each manually, and grabbing a screenshot with each...      copy to clipboard... they both paste into GIMP perfectly.13:24
knobSo, apparently, when I use the PRintScreen key in the keyboard, something goes amiss.13:24
knobNot sure if I should un-install one of those entries... what do you think?13:25
knobOk... where could I find these two screenshot installed programs?    I just used Ubuntu Software Center... and under Installed, it is not present.13:26
knobGoing to see how I can find them via command line13:26
cfhowlettknob, more likely you have a double entry13:26
brainvvashthe 2nd one is probably gnome-screenshot13:28
knobI ran  dpkg --get-selections | grep screen13:28
knobyes!13:28
knobI have  gnome-screenshot                and underneath I have  xfce4-screenshooter13:28
knobShould I remove... gnome-screenshot?13:32
knobI would reckon xfce4-screenshooter works better?13:32
cfhowlettknob, xfce4 = xubuntu so ... default app13:33
knobAight!13:39
knobDoing that now!13:39
knobHmm... just removed gnome-screenshot, and still getting the error about the empty clipboard.14:49
knob=\14:49
brainvvashyou have to start gimp before taking the screenshot and saving it to the clipboard14:51
knobyup... that's the way I did it14:51
knobStarted gimp...14:51
brainvvashworks here14:51
knobhead over to a different workspace... keyboard PrintScreen.....   select copy to clipboards14:51
knob*clipboard14:51
knobthen head over to gimp,   ctrl+shift+v   ... nothing14:51
knoberror stating the clipboard is empty14:51
brainvvashshift?14:51
knobshift+ctrl+v   pastes as a new image in gimp14:52
knobThis is odd...14:54
brainvvashindeed, something happens to the clipboard content14:54
knobYes... not sure what... what I have wrong.   I just reinstalled gnome-screenshot... and removed   xfce-screenshooter.14:55
knobDoesn't make sense... yet, trying to see what happens14:56
knobOk... that didn't even work14:56
brainvvashdon't switch the workspace14:56
knobSame result... just tried it.14:56
knobLet me re-install xfce4-screenshooter...14:57
knoband remove   gnome-screenshot14:57
brainvvashthat won't help14:57
knobYeah nope... still the clipboard seems to be empty.14:57
brainvvashI assume a clipboard manager could help in this case14:58
brainvvashto preserve the clipboard content/context when switching workspaces14:58
knobI did read some suggestions online about that.   I think clipman  and...14:58
knobparcelite14:58
knobAny recommendations on your end?14:58
knobrecommendations/preferences14:59
brainvvashno, you'll have to test them14:59
knobok... going first with clipman14:59
knobIt is interesting that she thinks about the data.     If I grab a screenshot, and try to paste it... she thinks for 15-30 seconds... then throws the error.           If I try to paste two lines of text, she throws the error super fast.15:00
brainvvashthe data seems to be there, but it cannot be recognized properly, because the meta data is missing/broken15:02

kopplehello, how do you fix this? When using Photoshop some tools require the ALT key to be pressed and there's no other way to use is otherwise. My Xubuntu drags the windows when I use that key so I will not be able to use those tools (such as the clone tool)22:07
knomekopple, change the modifier key to something else on xubuntu22:16
Ullarahknome, Use 'window modifier tweaks' in settings.22:16
UllarahThen click the accessibility tab.22:16
knomekopple, ^ that22:16
UllarahChange they 'key used to grab' option.22:16
UllarahSorry, I tagged you knome by accident :P22:16
knomenp22:16
kopplethanks, I'm trying.. I should understand how keyboard settings and shortcuts are dealt with in Xubuntu22:17
koppleunfortunately my Xubuntu is not in English but as far as I could try translating the window I'm on now is "settings editor" and it looks like a Windows registry or something like that22:18
Ullarahkopple, what language?22:18
koppleI suppose that's not what you meant since I can't spot an accessibility line22:18
koppleItalian22:18
Ullarahkopple, do you know where your settings are?22:19
koppleyes I do, may it be in the Input devices?22:19
UllarahThere should be an option there called 'window modifier tweaks' or in italian 'tweaks finestra di modifica' possibly.22:20

Ullarahkopple, I normally change it to 'SUPER'22:22
kopple"meta" means apple/windows icon key?22:22
UllarahUse super.22:22
UllarahMeta is the 'menu' key on your keyboard, the one on the right hand side of the windows key.22:23
UllarahSuper is the windows key :)22:23
koppleI don't have super, I only have "hyper" XD is it the same as super?22:23

UllarahNo worries, happy to help.22:27
kopplemaybe you can help me with this thing too22:27
UllarahI'll give it a go! :P22:28
koppleI'm using three monitors at once and I find Xubuntu great for multiple monitors. Just one thing, do you think I can instruct the DE to place desktop icons always on the same monitor? Sometims I just don't need to switch them all on22:28
koppleI thought ... maybe if one of the three of them was set to "primary" within the editor settings?22:29
kopplemay I break something?22:30
UllarahHmm.22:32
UllarahNot sure if that's possible.22:32
kopplewell it's a minor issue indeed..22:32
UllarahI mean, it /is/ possible, but you'd have to look at the source code for the DE :P22:33
koppleabove me, totally XD22:33
kopplebut thanks22:33
kopplenow I can work with Photoshop the way I'm used to, mostly.. at least  now every tool works22:34
