[08:06] cfhowlett: i have done it on Debian and the Nvidia drivers don't work nicely :P [08:07] cfhowlett: (segfault when trying to run Quake II) [08:07] hTmlDP, boot a live session, run the additional drivers utility. [08:07] cfhowlett: will i be able to detect my home partition during the install? [08:07] hTmlDP, probably [08:08] cfhowlett: is it much heavier than debian+xfce4? [08:08] hTmlDP, I don't do Debian. [08:09] cfhowlett: ok [08:09] hTmlDP, but if you're concerned, consider lubuntu [08:09] cfhowlett: nah, i prefer xfce [08:26] I´m interested in how long it takes that new xfce translation get to the xubuntu repos [08:32] nobody? [14:58] xubuntu00w, is the login screen also affected? [14:58] yes it is [15:00] xubuntu00w, I suggest that you ask in #ubuntu [15:00] most likely some hardware/driver issue [15:01] which is not xubuntu specific [15:01] i'll give it a shot [15:01] thanks [15:01] good luck :) === OrioaZzZ is now known as Orioa [17:13] Orioa, hello, please don't use awaynicks === Orioa is now known as OrioaZzZ [19:05] firefox using 332% of cpu in html5 youtube videos, crazy [19:13] me too [21:29] hello, is it possible to install xubuntu (encrypted) on usb? [21:30] xusben, yes, it's possible [21:35] ObrienDave, any "how to" link? [21:37] easy, use unetbootin to install to USB or since you want encrypted, burn ISO to DVD and use that to install to USB [21:37] by booting live system from DVD [21:39] i see, so to have full encrypted the usb i must install xubuntu from live cd [21:39] that is the easiest way i know of. there are probably others [21:41] i used the unetbootin to install xubuntu on usb but with the iso on my hard disk [21:41] and didn't give me the chance to enrypte the usb [21:41] nope, burn ISO to DVD, boot DVD, install encrypted to USB [21:42] yes, i got it [21:42] thanks [21:42] yw [21:42] hey all [21:43] I'm having some issues with install Ubuntu [21:45] okaaaaay [21:46] I have a 1TB HDD refusing to install Ubuntu or XUbuntu on it [21:46] in what way "refusing"? [21:46] I gives me Buffer I/O error on device [21:46] internal or external drive? [21:47] Internal [21:47] probably a HDD controller issue [21:47] That is a the very start, the install keeps going unitl [21:48] see if you can turn off "write caching" on the drive [21:49] the boot loader fails to install: DbDriver: 'config': could not write ..../config.dat-new: Read-only file system [21:49] buffer I/O error - the drive is dead. [21:49] are you writing the boot loader to the proper drive partition? [21:49] I did some e2fsck checks and it came back with wrongly counted blocks and asked to fix [21:50] It has physical errors, which lead to buffer I/O errors which cannot by fixed. [21:50] time for a new drive [21:50] Correct. :) [21:50] That's what I thought, so the drive is dead... [21:50] ;( [21:50] Well that's a bitch.
