[00:00] I've just installed lubuntu on a notebook but im having some troubles I'd love some help [00:01] hi, I'm trying to remove a package but the package manager recommends me to remove lubuntu-desktop - http://kpaste.net/bbc5 [00:02] freeroute that makes sense as it is part of lubuntu-desktop and as long as it isn't removing core components you should be fine [00:03] Linuxnoob: need to be more specific [00:03] freeroute: remove lubuntu-desktop first (just an index file) and then remove what you want [00:05] ok i installed evertying, but now the touchpad and the keyboard dont work [00:06] Linuxnoob: what version did you install? [00:06] im already in lubuntu, and using external devices i can work but not the actuall ones [00:06] trusty thar [00:07] 14.04 i believe [00:07] Linuxnoob: and were these devices working when you did the install? [00:07] yea with the original OS it worked fine [00:09] Linuxnoob: with the original OS? you mean the live installer? [00:09] its a toshiba AC 100 [00:10] it had android in it, so everything worked fine. now I installed lubuntu and it stopped [00:10] how did you install lubuntu, Linuxnoob ? [00:10] I had someone helping me. we used nvflash [00:10] and a usb stick [00:11] Linuxnoob: what image did you use? the lubuntu image? [00:11] u mean the bootimg? [00:12] Linuxnoob: i mean which lubuntu image did you use? alternate? desktop? where did you get the image? [00:14] the guy helping me told me to use this one [00:14] trusty-preinstalled-desktop-armhf+ac100.tar [00:14] we didnt use an iso cuz the ac100 cant boot from USB [00:14] and where did you acquire that? [00:16] dunno [00:18] i don't know of a armhf image we support, honestly [00:18] i mean if you look at the official releases, you won't find one [00:18] here's trusty: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/releases/14.04/release/ [00:19] it's possible that ubuntu proper offers an armhf image [00:19] you could install that and then install lubuntu-desktop if you wanted to have lubuntu [00:20] essentially armhf exists for one real reason: to support touch [00:20] and that's only there for a limited number of devices [00:22] Linuxnoob: i know there is support for armhf server images and i know that snappy offers images for e.g. raspberry pi 2, beagle bone, but i think that's where things end [00:23] Linuxnoob: with that all being said, i would run the check for additional drivers and see if you get lucky [00:24] im running sudo apt-get update but no luck [00:24] Linuxnoob: look in the menu. [00:25] ? [00:25] Linuxnoob: http://askubuntu.com/questions/197110/enable-drivers-on-lubuntu [00:31] i find two drivers in the aditional drivers tab [00:32] X.Org.X server and NVidia Binary xorg driver for tergra 2 etc [00:38] any thoughts on that? [01:34] hello, I've just installed lubuntu on a Toshiba AC100 but the keyboard and touchpad are not working. Can anyone help me? [02:02] lubuntunoob: are you using usa keyboard format? [02:02] no. i selected my native language [02:02] could that be the problem? [06:05] I've got a fairly clean fresh install of kubuntu. It will never give me a sudo dialog when trying to run commands that need escalated privlidges like installing updates. Also my NetworkManager widget is busted keeps saying "0.9.8 required found ". What's broken on my kubuntu 14.10 setup? [06:05] oji [06:09] proteusguy, this is #lubntu [06:09] damn sorry - wrong group. [16:23] hello [16:24] short: actual daily build of lubuntu 64bit is broken. When you start browser, whole system freeze for ever. You also cant swtich to for example tty2 and have to pull out the power of the computer and restart again. [17:39] short: actual daily build of lubuntu 64bit is broken. When you start browser, whole system freeze for ever. You also cant swtich to for example tty2 and have to pull out the power of the computer and restart again. [17:41] fqq I will check when I get home [17:41] I can't of can't really download the whole iso on jaack in the box wifi [17:43] ianorlinlaptop: awsome. Thanks :) [17:53] i really like lubuntu alot...wondering if there is a distro faster than lubuntu that keeps a windows xp appearance ? [17:57] are there any distros which run faster than lubuntu ? i heard of crunchbang but doesn't look very user friendly [17:57] I also tried peppermint but it seems identical to lubuntu and slightly slower too [18:04] with fast did you mean boot up or speed while using? [18:06] both boot up and speed in general [18:06] lubuntu is pretty fast, just curious to know if there is anything out there [18:07] i noticed that the distros faster than lubuntu are not necessarily user friendly [18:07] i am going to try bridge linux soon [18:08] http://www.tinycorelinux.net/ [18:09] #! is nice, but going away. It's just openbox, not LXDE. [18:09] http://www.tinycorelinux.net/6.x/x86/release/CorePlus-6.1.iso [18:09] cool [18:09] Unit193: he say xp-like. not LXDE [18:09] alot of ppl told me about puppy but i tried it and it really seems too dated [18:09] lxde like is fine too [18:09] yes, puppy is fully outdated [18:10] i also tried zorin, linux mint, [18:10] tinycore 6.1 is from 08.03.2015 [18:10] lubuntu so far is my fav but it does seem slightly dated but nothing like puppy [18:11] i was hoping peppermint would be faster but peppermint seems to have a better color scheme but not faster [18:12] i heard of LXQt, is that faster ? [18:12] you can also try manjaro with LXQT [18:13] LXQT is that, what lubuntu would use in future [18:13] it is not really faster but more differnt but the lxqt-runner is quite ncie [18:13] what is the fastest LXQT distro as of now ?? manjaor or ?? [18:13] but still not that stable and lots of changing parts taht can break [18:13] https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=21291.0 [18:13] there is also isduction with lxqt [18:14] jay__: You're only going to get "faster" by going with only a window manager, no DE. Also, pretty much only by building up, you're not going to find something pre-built with all the bells, going really fast. You are trying to compare software created in 2015 to that of 2002. [18:14] which I might trust more than manjaro as it is an actual lxqt dev working on it [18:14] i see [18:14] ianorlinlaptop: he told "xp like experiance". i think then he also wants to have the chance of broken system and unstability :p [18:15] i mean the layout similar to win 95, 98, xp [18:15] lxde seems to have that [18:15] I am fairly new to linux but learning each day [18:15] you mean you want a taskbar and menu? [18:15] right at the bottom like win 98 [18:15] thats all i care for [18:16] i dislike the mac and android layout [18:16] you can have that with neraly everything [18:16] oh ok [18:16] kde, gnome, fluxbox, icewm, lxde, lxqt, ... [18:16] fast, small, stable system: debian minimal installation cd [18:16] so with all the distros you have tried. Which distro is much faster than lubuntu, fairly new and user friendly [18:17] i am looking for much faster than lubuntu [18:17] not slightly faster [18:17] put an ssd into your computer [18:17] um but if it is perpiphal ata it will be hard to find an ssd [18:17] ssd ? [18:18] but if it has a sata interface will work much better [18:18] what is that like a usb flash drive but a harddrive [18:18] ianorlinlaptop: he have to tell what he is using [18:18] ssd are faster reading hard drives ? [18:18] they spin faster than the standard HD ..........the ssd ? [18:18] about 15 times faster. yes [18:18] there is nothing spinning [18:18] jay__, yes they use flash memory but they have better wear levleing than usb ones and have a better contorler [18:19] i use ssd since 5 years. strange for me to explain 5 years later what an ssd is :D [18:19] I have found it makes a huge differnce even on this core 2 duo laptop that I took out the 5400 rpm drive and then it flies [18:20] take an samsung 840 pro or samsung 850 pro. you would love them [18:20] do they make ssd external [18:20] so i have to replace my hard drive for an ssd hard drive to move like the speed of light then .......lol [18:20] jay__: did you have usb 3.0? [18:20] yea i have 3.0 port available [18:21] Samsung T1 [18:21] um then you probably have sata internally as well [18:21] I personally have found crucial mx100 really nice but have not had many other ssds [18:21] only external ssd thats worth it. Of course not as good and comfortable like a nice 850 pro [18:22] ianorlinlaptop: i had aroud 60 different ones [18:22] im not a big fan of korean products [18:22] i prefer japan and china products, samsung is like hyundai [18:22] jay__: then build a company by yourself and make an own one [18:23] we cant have enough markets :) [18:24] does japan have an OS system ? [18:24] a country? [18:24] is there an OS system like linux in Japan [18:24] Free os is something the people on this world have. not a country [18:25] heard of BTRON [18:25] ? [18:25] if you like it, then use it. it does not matter where its from as long as you have the full source of all [18:26] after windows 7 i stopped with windows [18:26] i keep windows 7 to run publisher, illustrator [18:27] why was so much invested into windows and not linux [18:27] i would think if as much was given to linux, linux would be superior to windows .........or maybe not idk [18:28] but anyways i will look into that ssd and tiny linux os and manjaro lxqt [18:28] thanks [18:29] replace illustrator with Inkscape and publisher with scribus [18:53] what up to date web browser runs fastest with lubuntu ? [18:53] i tried konqueror but it seems very buggy [18:54] firefox is alright but was looking for something faster, I tried flashpeak slimjet browser and that worked pretty well so far [19:22] midori [19:24] So very out of date in the repos, sadly. There's xombrero and qupzilla. [19:26] I heard qupzilla is good but haven't tried it [19:26] I haven't either. :P [19:26] I have I like it but there are some places it doesn't work right [19:27] and you get weird messages about unsupported versions of safari [19:32] Yes, that would be odd [20:16] i installed playonlinux which installed wine, and it stuck a wine entry in my main application menu [20:17] not under a category, such as Internet. i can't find a way to modify that menu to get it out of there. looked into something called alacarte but it isn't working [21:19] need help with lubuntu new install, im a Newbie [21:20] tmontet18, what version and on what hardware? [21:20] not sure the version, i installed on an older toshiba satellite laptop [21:23] the issue i am having is after the install lubuntu boots up and my screen displays 2 images of the desktop [21:24] 2 images meaning the desktop twice? [21:24] or two desktops you can switch between [21:25] yes, the screen shows the 2 desktop images side by side [21:25] cannot switch between the 2 [21:25] right click on the desktop [21:26] i have no cursor [21:26] um that is a problem [21:26] more than the desktop [21:27] any suggestions?
