[06:14] ctrl+alt+t [06:14] and after that [06:15] yes i can use [06:15] sudo apt-get install synaptic [06:15] hey listen plzz [06:15] ok [06:16] i dont have internet in ubuntu laptop, but i have broadband connection in my HP windows 8 laptop [06:17] oh i see [06:17] so you have done no updates yet? [06:19] i just installed 14.04 version yesterday, and after that i saw that there is no wifi option available..so can i install the required drivers in windows laptop from net and after that can i transfer in ubuntu via pendrive? [06:19] This isn't the right place to ask support questions. #ubuntu is better for that. But just as a general rule, it's often good to have your laptop connected to the Internet via Ethernet while installing Ubuntu, because occasionally it can install additional wifi drivers that way. [06:19] ty nhaines [06:20] Right now, your best bet is to go to the dash, search for "Additional Drivers", and check there to see if there are wifi drivers available for your hardare. [06:20] hardware. [06:20] there it nothing shows [06:22] Then there may be no wireless drivers for your hardware. We'd need to know the exact chipset model to verify that. [06:22] You can search askubuntu.com for more information on your hardware, or ask in #ubuntu for further assistance. [06:22] !support [06:22] The official ubuntu support channel is #ubuntu. Also see http://ubuntu.com/support and http://ubuntuforums.org and http://askubuntu.com [06:23] so can i install the required drivers in windows laptop from net and after that can i transfer in ubuntu via pendrive? [06:23] No. You need Ubuntu drivers, and they are either activated automatically or available from the Additional Drivers window. [06:24] This is not the support channel [06:24] so what i should do now [06:24] Are you unable to join the support channel? [06:25] 23:22 < nhaines> You can search askubuntu.com for more information on your hardware, or ask in #ubuntu for further assistance. [06:25] ok [06:25] Guest67565: You should /join #ubuntu ..and ask there [06:25] how can i do that? [06:26] Type "/join #ubuntu" [06:26] where? [06:26] where youy're typing now [06:28] "/join #ubuntu" [06:29] You've got it. No quotes this time. [06:35] shame [06:35] sorry for trying support here nhaines [06:35] heh [06:35] It's okay. We all want to help. :) [06:36] hi genii i dont know why he does plug his broadband connection into the ubuntu lappy [06:36] The problem is that if users learn that they can come in here for support, well, it'll just grow and grow, and even though this channel isn't busy, it would be disruptive. :) [06:36] That's why since you already offered support, I tried to give him a couple of pointers before kicking him over to the actual support channel. :) [06:36] some of the locos in africa have given this channel as a support channel [06:37] thats why i asked where he was [06:37] Odd, that [06:37] Well tell them to stop it. :) [06:37] Anyone with any LoCo question at all is in the right place. [06:37] Wifi questions, not so much. ;) [06:37] they are the dead ones in still trying to find [06:38] i dont even get email replies from them [06:40] Well, with any luck new members will step in someday, if the old ones don't return. [06:41] i will find odd ubuntu users and revive them [06:41] many have just joined lugs [06:42] oh thats why i asked him where he was so i could point him to a better channel [06:42] sorry guys [06:43] No, that was the right thing to do. :) [06:43] Just have to show a little tough love to push them into the right channels even when they still try to get support here. :) [06:43] lol :) [06:44] But I've been doing paid tech support for like 19 years now so I'm a pro at that. ;) [06:45] hahaha [06:46] "your CD needs to be manually fed? Are you sure it's not a 5 and a quarterter floppy drive?" [06:46] \( I had this happen ) [06:49] lol [06:51] i battle to even learn to understand pcs, because i only started using them late in life and after being to the happy hunting grounds snd the za guys were very kind and patient with me and got me to where i am today [06:51] so i know what it feels like [07:24] Good morning, dpm. :) [07:24] hey nhaines, also nearly morning for you? :) [07:25] Yup, just crossed over into morning for me. :) [07:25] :-) [07:25] But I'm burning the midnight oil writing! [07:25] hahaha [07:30] whew midnights are hard [07:30] hi dpm [07:32] I vaguely feel like I want to create a snappy package that provides mpd. [07:32] hi Kilos [07:32] But I don't actually use mpd, I just really like it. [08:21] morning dholbach [08:21] hi Kilos [08:21] hi MooDoo too [08:21] hehe [08:21] :)
