ahoneybunsomething is up with suspanding and locking01:07
ronnocRiddell: Your article is getting a lot of comments on The Hacker News :) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=923719904:39
valorieronnoc: disappointing that most of the comments are about anything but Kubuntu though04:53
ronnocvalorie: true but there are some good ones in there specifically about Kubuntu as well which is always nice to see :)05:10
valorieindeed, what was said was almost all good05:12
lordievaderGood morning.09:48
Riddellhi lordievader 09:54
Riddellronnoc: which is why it would be great if you made a kubuntu wire article with highlights from some of the comments :)09:54
lordievaderHey Riddell, how are you?09:55
Riddelllordievader: I'm pretty awesome09:57
RiddellI think once I've had breakfast I'll be very awesome09:57
Riddellthen I'll see if I can tackle these libreoffice icons09:58
lordievaderThat's good to hear :)09:59
Riddelllordievader: how's yourself? have you considered coming to akademy?10:02
lordievaderRiddell: Err, quite busy today. Doing some server upgrades.10:55
hjdHi all :) The Kubuntu installer for Vivid seems to show the slideshow at the end untranslated for some reason. The rest of the installer is localized when you pick a language, but it seems like it doesn't have any effect when you get to the slideshow. Fwiw, with an Ubuntu disc image, the slideshow is translated (see bug 1429475 for more info)11:42
ubottubug 1429475 in ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu (Ubuntu) "Kubuntu Vivid 1 Beta 15.04 installation: Slideshow is missing german translation" [Low,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/142947511:42
Riddellhjd: hmm interesting11:43
Riddellmaybe there are no translations with the new updates?11:44
Riddellbut there should be at least some, most of the text didn't change11:44
JiyuhenHi folks! Quick question, if I want to compress media files to save up hdd space and such, is rar or the linux tar.gz compression better?11:45
RiddellJiyuhen: user questions best in #kubuntu, but most media files are already as compressed as they can be as part of the codec11:48
JiyuhenRiddell: Thanks , I keep  that in mind :)11:49
BluesKajHiyas all12:10
JiyuhenBluesKaj: Hey Blues!12:15
BluesKajHi Jiyuhen12:25
JiyuhenBluesKaj:  How are things today?12:34
BluesKajjust fine thanks Jiyuhen, How about you ?12:34
JiyuhenBluesKaj: Good! Spend some time cleaning my "storage" drive and am now looking into Phyton12:35
JiyuhenPython12:35
BluesKajok , not very knowledgable about pytho except the python scripts I found on the TIVO sites for networking the device between pcs and it's hdd12:37
BluesKajpython that is12:37
BluesKajbrb12:42
Jiyuhenkk12:44
lordievaderJiyuhen: Whoo Python :D13:20
Jiyuhenlordievader: I like the syntax, unlike that of any C type language. Do you program in Phyton ?13:21
lordievaderJiyuhen: From my reaction ;), yes.13:22
Jiyuhenlordievader: lol! Sweet surprise! ;-) 13:22
lordievaderHehe, is it?13:23
Jiyuhenlordievader: And you are from the netherlands, right?13:23
JiyuhenBut cool, so when I get stuck, is it ok, to hit you up?13:23
Sho_If you're coding a KDE app in Python you can also always ask #kde-devel or contact KDE's programming mentoring team13:24
lordievaderJiyuhen: Yes, and sure ;)13:27
lordievaderPyQt ftw \o/13:27
JiyuhenSho_:  Awesome tip, I chop that down for when I am more proficent. ;-)13:28
Sho_Any level is fine, we all started somewhere~13:28
lordievaderTrue that13:28
Jiyuhenlordievader:  Thanks! :)13:28
Jiyuhenvery true indeed :)13:52
BluesKajAm I missing something here? Why can't systemsettings be luanched with root permissions as in previous versions? kdesudo systemsettings in the krunner was always available. What's the problem now ?14:06
Sho_Why would you need to, though?14:06
BluesKajbecause I need to reset the fonts to be large enough/readable on my TV/monitor in order to edit some conf files etc, and the default toolbar fonts for example are too small to read.14:08
Sho_It should work if you're actually inside a root session, I guess14:09
yofelBluesKaj: it's called systemsettings5 now14:09
BluesKajthanks yofel14:10
BluesKajtoo bad the fonts set as root don't apply globally , only applies to the font setting inside systemsettings /fonts  :P14:35
Sho_settings for root apply to root14:36
BluesKajSho_, if it's opened as root it should apply globally to any file opened as root, at least it did in plasma 414:37
KDDAin the favourite app menu, is there any way to make it the icons smaller or the area bigger, I want more favourites! 14:38
BluesKajSho_, I mean the settings changed as root in systemsettings514:40
Sho_BluesKaj: yeah, root's settings should apply to apps run as root ... unless the QPA plugin prefers the xprops of the running display these days14:40
BluesKajanother feature i miss and I'm sure others do too is the krunner dropdown that contained previous entries is missing14:42
BluesKajxprpops?14:43
BluesKajerr xprops?14:44
Sho_tech stuff14:47
Sho_re krunner history, that's because the UI was rewritten in Qt Quick and the Qt Quick line edit widget doesn't work with the KCompletion framework right now14:48
ovidiu-florinRiddell: ping15:08
Riddellhi ovidiu-florin 15:38
ovidiu-florinRiddell: hi15:38
BluesKajhey Riddell what or where's the ninja ppa?, can't seem to locate the 15.04 version 15:45
RiddellBluesKaj: what are you after?15:46
ovidiu-florinRiddell: I pinged you for the message I left for you on trello15:46
BluesKajRiddell, I seem to be missing some libs/packages that link to systemsettings driver manager for example 15:48
BluesKajRiddell, or am I on the wrong track ?15:50
RiddellBluesKaj: ninjas doesn't contain anything currently and drive manager isn't put in ninjas15:51
BluesKajok Riddell thanks 15:52
ovidiu-florinlordievader: ping15:53
* BluesKaj wonders what is needed to make system settings work properly15:54
RiddellBluesKaj: do you have kubuntu-driver-manager installed?15:54
BluesKajRiddell, yes15:55
ronnocRiddell: Heh..fair 'nuff :) I can do that in the AM tomorrow.  And coordinate with mparillo for the time being  for publishing / proofing since I don't have access atm.15:55
ronnocmparillo: Speaking of...check this article out. WOuld be good to highligh the 2nd to last paragraph and post on the Wire - Good stuff. http://www.linds.net/archives/7415:56
Riddellronnoc: something like http://wire.kubuntu.org/?p=196 maybe15:57
Riddellronnoc: I can give you access once you have put together something good to publish15:57
ronnocOK15:57
ovidiu-florinyofel: ping16:01
mparilloronnoc: You have that one? One word of warning...if you use the Wire Interface to insert an image by uploading it first, the default URL of that image is the image itself. You can change it, of course.16:02
yofelovidiu-florin: hm?16:02
ovidiu-florinyofel: is this news http://www.kubuntu.org/kde-sc-4.5.5 ?16:02
yofelovidiu-florin: yes16:03
ovidiu-florinthen why isn't it under /news/ ?16:03
yofelsounds like a mistake16:03
ovidiu-florinyeah16:03
ovidiu-florinnow I have to write a redirect rule for that16:04
ovidiu-florin :(16:04
Riddellovidiu-florin: you have you manually set the url so it's easy to make that sort of mistake16:04
yofelsry ^^16:04
ovidiu-florinI know16:04
ovidiu-florinI just wanted to check16:04
ovidiu-florinWordpress does that automagicaly, and you can change it if you don't like the generated one16:05
ovidiu-florinit points to: http://kubwp.kubuntu.co.uk/news/kde-releases-4-5-5/16:05
ovidiu-florintake a look at my current task: https://notes.kde.org/p/Kubuntu-new-site-pages-not-found16:05
ovidiu-florinmake all those work16:06
ronnocRiddell: There are good comments on your article all over the place. I'll curate and condense some from several sites to make the article. 16:11
ronnocmparillo: Yea I can write both articles in the next day or so. What's your email so that I can send them to you (for now)? I'll send them as formatted HTML articles for now with picture attachments.16:13
Riddellronnoc: kubuntu-devel list will do16:15
ronnocGot it, will do :)16:16
Riddellronnoc, mparillo: oh and if either of you are in proofreader mode https://www.kde.org/announcements/plasma-5.2.2.php needs an eye over16:31
Riddellronnoc, mparillo: also I've a volunteer to make a video of 15.04 who is asking for CC licenced music and a list of items to highlight16:31
Riddellso any input on that welcome :)16:31
mparilloRiddell: One little nit. 16:44
mparilloLive Images16:44
mparilloThe easiest way to try it out is the with a live image booted off a USB disk. Images are available for development versions of Kubuntu Plasma 5.16:44
mparilloI think the link goes to the old place where you separated Plasma 5 images from 4. I would simply send them here: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/daily-live/16:46
Riddellwell spotted16:46
mparilloTY. Also the link from: Package download wiki page to: (the one I care about) https://community.kde.org/Plasma/Packages#Kubuntu Somebody has been gradually cleaning up that section. But, I think the bit about to move to Vivid beta. Full instructions to upgrade from 14.10. might be obsolete. And I have not tested the newer version of the devel-release-upgrade since Beta 1. I assume we will want to test it sometime next 16:51
mparilloweek?16:51
mparilloronnoc: You should be able to reach me at the first address here: https://launchpad.net/~marco-parillo (the second is only because bugs.kde.org publishes your e-mail, and I wanted a throw-away one).16:56
lordievaderovidiu-florin: pong16:58
ovidiu-florinhey16:59
ovidiu-florincare to play around with that script and list again?16:59
mparilloRiddell: http://welltemperedclavier.org/ Music and license does not get any better than this http://libregraphicsworld.org/blog/entry/records-and-sheet-music-of-well-tempered-clavier-to-go-free 17:00
lordievaderovidiu-florin: Not today.17:05
lordievaderBusy with other things.17:05
ovidiu-florinok17:05
soeeRiddell: what was the package name to get breeze style for gtk2 apps ?17:06
Riddellsoee: apt search orion17:08
soeeRiddell: orion ? is it some new one, im sure that few weeks ago it was sometgin else :)17:15
Riddelldunno if it's new, it's just the gtk theme I could find that had similar looking scrollbars to breeze17:17
ronnocRiddell: re: the announcements - The section under 'Live Images' looks to be fixed-width formatted whereas the rest of the article appears to be left-justified. The only other niggle is that perhaps having both the social media icons and names looks a bit cluttered. I would only use the icons to clean it up.17:20
ronnocOtherwise it looks good to me :)17:20
soeeRiddell: ah, im talking about package that adds  QtCurve to thems fro GTK2 in system settings17:23
soeegtk2-engines-qtcurve17:24
soeethis one i think17:25
=== ahoneycutt is now known as ahoneybun
Riddellronnoc: you could also look for comments on http://jriddell.org/2015/03/18/kubuntu-15-04-heating-up/ I especially like "seriously, this thing is a wok of art." :)17:50
