Padronihow are you?06:39
Kilosohi magespawn  06:41
Jacques_Stry1 month to go 15.04 release06:46
Kilossigh06:48
magespawnhi Padroni good and you/06:52
magespawn?06:52
magespawni am looking at proxy servers, squid seems to be quite comprehensive, any thoughts people?06:59
Padroniproxy for?07:03
Padronivpn purposes?07:03
Padronior caching?07:03
magespawncaching and usage control07:04
inetprodankie Kilos07:08
inetprogood mornings everyone07:08
Squirmmorning07:13
Kiloshi Squirm  07:13
Kiloshi TinuvaMac  07:20
Jacques_StryI would very much propose squid. Most firewall dist etc. use it07:38
Jacques_Strywhat is the environment you want it for?07:39
TinuvaMacmorning Kilos07:42
PadroniWe use Untangle for Firewall / VPN purposes07:43
Padroniall I can say is it works.07:43
Padroni as to how good vs Squid, I can't say07:43
Jacques_Strysame here - haven't really tested untangle07:43
Jacques_Strybut if you want bandwidth monitoring per user then go for untangle - squid not really meant for that07:45
Jacques_StryProblem is untangle is expensive07:47
magespawnthanks Jacques_Stry, i think i will use squid for now, and also set up something like cacti07:48
magespawnthanks Padroni 07:52
magespawnJacques_Stry: the company has various internet connections, all running on the same capped account, i am looking to reduce, monitor and control the usage07:53
Jacques_StryA combination of squid and cacti should work then. Just gonna be quite the config :)07:56
Jacques_StryI see IPFire has a Cacti addon available - so then you have squid, webblocker etc. already configured08:04
Jacques_Strymagespawn: http://wiki.ipfire.org/en/addons/cacti/start08:04
magellaniclook into ipcop maybe as well, it is an all-in-one distro for that type of thing08:07
Jacques_Strylol same thing about - ipfire is based on ipcop08:07
magellanicah :)08:08
magellanicone thing I haven't seen in ipcop, is bandiwdth shaping tools, but maybe I haven't looked enough08:08
Jacques_Stryipfire you can but you have to do it via QOS rules08:09
magespawni am not too concerned about shaping, just need to monitor, to see who is using what, at the moment08:28
barrydkmagespawn: I use a clearos server for the same thing08:38
magespawnthanks barrydk i'll take a look08:41
Padroniclearos is pretty08:41
PadroniI had that on one of my eeebox pc's once08:41
Padronioh wait08:41
PadroniI am thinking of something else08:42
Padronioh wait - yes08:42
Padroniit IS clearos, hehe08:42
PadroniI like their site - it's pretty08:42
magespawnbarrydk: are you using the community or professional/08:42
barrydkcommunity, 08:43
Jacques_Stryhaven't used but yes their site is pretty *sparkles* :)08:43
magespawnlol08:43
barrydkIt is verry stable 08:44
Jacques_Stryi'll load it up on a VM tonight and check it out08:44
barrydkFor a dum oak like me it is very user friendly to setup and it does what i want08:46

Kilosse net vir almal sorry got a site to build when project is done17:33
Kilosdis als in jou hande nou17:33
MopkopI just got a very bright idea. I always get these Ideas when I'm supposed to be working. Why not build a site locally using Joomla or Wordpress, then wget the entire site to get the static html pages. And then just FTP the output to the server? This way you can make very fast sites using Wordpress or Joomla.18:05
Kiloslol18:06
MopkopI just tried it with a Joomla site I built and it works perfectly :)18:06
Kilosyou already know the answer to that18:06
MopkopKilos: No, I don't?18:07
Kilosyou are supposed to be doing a project18:07

MopkopNikola v7.3.119:07
Kiloshttp://www.howtogeek.com/howto/14369/change-or-reset-windows-password-from-a-ubuntu-live-cd/19:07
Kiloshaha19:07
superflyMopkop: and you ran "nikola build" and then "nikola serve" ?19:07
Mopkopsuperfly: Yes.19:08
superflyMopkop: works for me. try deleting your "cache" and "output" directories19:09
MopkopIf I go to the live site and copy-paste the JavaScript in the footer into the footer in my local site and create the corresponding script in the assets folder. It works perfectly.19:09
inetprocaptine: yes, DFD has been ongoing for a few years already 19:09
MopkopLet met try that...19:09
superflyMopkop: also, did you do a "bzr up" in trunk?19:09
inetprocaptine: but I forgot about it to be honest19:09
Mopkopis it the same as bzr update? then yes.19:10
superflyyeah, just shorthand19:11
MopkopNope, still the same problem :(19:11
captineinetpro, cool.  I sent to our IT team... held back on comments about open standards.... big microsoft lovers... :)19:11
inetprocaptine: remember to mention it in our meeting tomorrow19:13
superflyMopkop: open up the dev console, refresh, and tell me if you see any errors19:13

MopkopAnd all the buttons there are selected, CSS JS Net and so on.19:17
MopkopThis is the source: http://bin.snyman.info/cjcwr19:17
captineKilos, that link uses 9.10.  you think it is still applicable for newer Windows versions?19:17
superflyMopkop: my guess is that you actually have a security setting that is True where mine is False, but I can't remember the name of that setting, so I can't go and disable it in my browser. Which is why it works for me19:17
Kiloslet me go see captine  19:18
Kilosyou talking about the frredom day link?19:19
Kilosfreedom19:19
superflyMopkop: weird, that's not right.19:19
Mopkopsuperfly: Yes, this line is missing: <script src="/assets/js/all-nocdn.js"></script>19:19
MopkopIf I add it and the all-nocdn.js file it works.19:20
superflyMopkop: it's not just that. you have 3 files, where I have one19:20
superflyMopkop: what's the output of "cat themes/ubuntuafrica/bundles" ?19:21
MopkopYes, I noticed that too. It is like that in the raw Nikola code, not just in the output. Which is why I thought bzr is not getting the right code.19:21
MopkopLet me see...19:21
Mopkopassets/css/all-nocdn.css=bootstrap.css,bootstrap-theme.css,rst.css,code.css,colorbox.css,theme.css,custom.css19:22
Mopkopassets/css/all.css=rst.css,code.css,colorbox.css,theme.css,custom.css19:22

Mopkopassets/js/all.js=jquery.colorbox-min.js,theme.js19:22

MopkopOk...19:28
superflyin my version of Nikola, it defaults to True19:28
superflyit might have changed19:28
superflyMopkop: oh, do you have the Python 2 or 3 version of Nikola running?19:28
superflytry installing python3-webassets19:29

Kilosoh19:39
MopkopLet' see...19:40
inetproMopkop, superfly: I know what it is19:41
MopkopYes?19:41
superflyinetpro: wat is dit?19:41
inetproI updated my pyenv and plugins/pyenv-virtualenv/19:41
inetpronow also getting the same problem19:42
MopkopAh.19:42
inetprodid a 'git pull' on each of them19:42
inetpronot sure which one breaks it19:42
superflynou ja, you want to use some dudes untested piece of code19:43
Kiloslol19:43
superflyYou see why I say, "just stick with  virtualenv"?19:43
inetproKilos: where's the sjambok?19:44
inetproand where's stickyboy?19:44
Kiloshahaha 19:45
Kiloshe has gone to the states for 2 weeks i think19:45
MopkopSo I just pip virtualenv?19:45
superflyno, sudo apt-get install virtualenv19:45
Kilosremind me to rev him when he gets back19:45
superflythen "virtualenv --system-site-packages ~/virtualenv"19:46
superflythen "~/virtualenv/bin/pip install nikola"19:46
MopkopE: Unable to locate package virtualenv19:46
MopkopDo I need a ppa?19:46
superflyno, sudo apt-get install python-virtualenv19:46
superflymy mistake, sorry, trying to do 3 things at once here19:46
MopkopOh, I already have it. Lol19:47
Jacques_StrYnight all19:50
MopkopNight Jacques_StrY!19:50
MopkopSo how do I use virtualenv?19:51
superfly[21:46:16] <superfly> then "virtualenv --system-site-packages ~/virtualenv"19:51
superfly[21:46:30] <superfly> then "~/virtualenv/bin/pip install nikola"19:51
Mopkopand then nikola will work? So I don't need to activate anyting?19:52
MopkopBut now I get Nikola version 6.2.119:52
superfly~/virtualenv/bin/pip install --upgrade nikola19:53
MopkopUpgrading....19:55
inetprohmm...19:59
* inetpro deleted ~/.pyenv/versions/Nikola/ and started a fresh pyenv virtualenv Nikola20:00
inetproI see the image now20:00
inetproso I'm not convinced any more... maybe I just missed something else20:01
inetprofollowing my instructions at https://trello.com/c/hRfmh5Kd works fine20:02
MopkopNow I get a bunch of errors when I build :(20:02
inetprobut superfly I hear what you say about trusting other people's code20:02
Mopkopinetpro: I tried following it to the letter, but I get errors when I try to pip install webassets20:03
inetproMopkop: what errors?20:03
inetpropastebin it20:04
inetproI might have left out another dependancy 20:04
MopkopO wait sudo....20:04
Mopkop:(20:05
inetprouh?20:05
MopkopA lot of these: warning: no previously-included files matching 'out.css' found under directory 'examples'20:06
superflyMopkop: no! don't sudo pip!20:06
MopkopOops...20:06
superflysudo pip forces pip to install external packages into your system python, where your package manager has no idea what's going on20:07
superflysudo pip is bad20:07
superflyyou need to use the pip from inside your virtualenv20:07
MopkopAh, maybe that's how I broke it in the first place....20:07
superflyand in this case you don't even need to do that20:07
inetproai!20:07
superflybecause you already installed webassets via your package manager20:07
superfly~/virtualenv/bin/pip20:08
superflyno sudo20:08
MopkopRequirement already up-to-date20:10
MopkopDoes virtualenv also have an activate command like pyenv?20:10
superflypyenv is just a (bad) wrapper around virtualenv20:15
MopkopBut I don't get how to run nikola from virtualenv?20:16
superfly~/virtualenv/bin/nikola20:18
Mopkopah, was looking at that...20:19
MopkopHow do you set an alias again?20:19
superflyPython? ~/virtualenv/bin/python20:19
superflyln -s <source> <target>20:19
MopkopYay it works now!20:20
MopkopThank you superfly and inetpro. I know  you are very busy.20:21
MopkopOk good night all. And thank you for all the help!20:28
kulelu88you don't need virtualenv anymore with docker20:32
inetprokulelu88: maybe you need to help us with docker a bit 20:34
inetprobut not now20:34
superflykulelu88: with something small like nikola for building a site, docker is overkill20:37
kulelu88no problem inetpro . I am working on a docker-workflow. I am so far setup with ubuntu + python. Next I'm building basic onion layers like django, flask, etc.20:38
kulelu88superfly: true, but Docker keeps the base system clean. Having many extra libs on your base install is unnecessary 20:38
inetprosuperfly: but docker is supposed to simplify things20:38
superflyinetpro: when you're running servers, sure20:39
superflykulelu88: two packages is hardly "many extra"20:39
kulelu88superfly: are there any ubuntu-level libs required?20:40
superflykulelu88: for nikola? only python-virtualenv and python-webassets - the rest goes into the virtualenv20:41
kulelu88so nothing below? Like a C package, etc.20:41
superflyno20:41
superflyat least, not as far as I know.20:42
kulelu88yeah then docker isn't necessary20:42
kulelu88although still useful if many of you are using Nikola for the same site20:42
superflyyeah, I don't do the "C-extensions in your virtualenv" thing20:42
inetproideally this pyenv thingamajig should be packaged and easier to use for newbies20:42
kulelu88superfly: I don't think virtualenv allows for that20:43
superflyinetpro: from my perspective, pyenv only makes things more complicated20:43
kulelu88it only isolates py stuff20:43
superflykulelu88: it does, as long as you have the build tools available20:43
superflykulelu88: apparently you can pip install mod_wsgi20:44
superflykulelu88: it just puts it all in your virtualenv instead of in your system20:44
superflyanyway, bed time for me20:44
superflygot all my AngularJS tests passing20:45
inetprosuperfly: true, it does more than what we really need20:45
superfly\o/20:45
kulelu88wow, I didn't know this20:45
kulelu88tc superfly 20:45
superflynight all! have fun storming the castle!20:46
inetproyep, sleep is needed20:46
inetprogood night superfly20:46
Kilossjoe i fell asleep21:26
Kilosnight all sleep tight21:26
