Jacques_Stry | DSL at home off again :) | 05:30 |
Kilos | ya us 2 but only 2mm rain | 05:31 |
Kilos | eish | 05:31 |
Kilos | weve had 3 days of storms, inetpro had no power most of saterday | 05:31 |
Jacques_Stry | Good thing i put everything on my IPFire server - switching everything over to wireless was 30 sec | 05:32 |
Kilos | no dsl is better than no power at all | 05:32 |
Jacques_Stry | true | 05:32 |
Kilos | so he loafed all saterday and sunday, now its time to rev him | 05:33 |
Jacques_Stry | hehe he's gonna come online with an ai! again | 05:33 |
Kilos | rofl | 05:33 |
Kilos | either that or he just lurks then comes on and says some of us have work as well | 05:34 |
Jacques_Stry | jaja | 05:35 |
Kilos | hi barrydk | 05:44 |

Jacques_Stry | Morning Padroni | 06:16 |
Kilos | hi Padroni | 06:17 |
Kilos | hmm... | 06:17 |
Padroni | Hi Kilos | 06:17 |
Padroni | Hi Jacques_Stry | 06:17 |
Padroni | how are you ? | 06:17 |
Kilos | good ty and you | 06:17 |
Padroni | been at work 17 minutes, done a spammer and a phishing site | 06:18 |
Padroni | it must be Monday today... | 06:18 |
Jacques_Stry | Hehe, good thanks | 06:18 |
magespawn | good morning | 06:37 |
Jacques_Stry | Morning | 06:38 |
Padroni | hi magespawn | 06:39 |
Padroni | how are you? | 06:39 |
Kilos | ohi magespawn | 06:41 |
Jacques_Stry | 1 month to go 15.04 release | 06:46 |
Kilos | sigh | 06:48 |
magespawn | hi Padroni good and you/ | 06:52 |
magespawn | ? | 06:52 |
magespawn | i am looking at proxy servers, squid seems to be quite comprehensive, any thoughts people? | 06:59 |
Padroni | proxy for? | 07:03 |
Padroni | vpn purposes? | 07:03 |
Padroni | or caching? | 07:03 |
magespawn | caching and usage control | 07:04 |
inetpro | dankie Kilos | 07:08 |
inetpro | good mornings everyone | 07:08 |
Squirm | morning | 07:13 |
Kilos | hi Squirm | 07:13 |
Kilos | hi TinuvaMac | 07:20 |
Jacques_Stry | I would very much propose squid. Most firewall dist etc. use it | 07:38 |
Jacques_Stry | what is the environment you want it for? | 07:39 |
TinuvaMac | morning Kilos | 07:42 |
Padroni | We use Untangle for Firewall / VPN purposes | 07:43 |
Padroni | all I can say is it works. | 07:43 |
Padroni | as to how good vs Squid, I can't say | 07:43 |
Jacques_Stry | same here - haven't really tested untangle | 07:43 |
Jacques_Stry | but if you want bandwidth monitoring per user then go for untangle - squid not really meant for that | 07:45 |
Jacques_Stry | Problem is untangle is expensive | 07:47 |
magespawn | thanks Jacques_Stry, i think i will use squid for now, and also set up something like cacti | 07:48 |
magespawn | thanks Padroni | 07:52 |
magespawn | Jacques_Stry: the company has various internet connections, all running on the same capped account, i am looking to reduce, monitor and control the usage | 07:53 |
Jacques_Stry | A combination of squid and cacti should work then. Just gonna be quite the config :) | 07:56 |
Jacques_Stry | I see IPFire has a Cacti addon available - so then you have squid, webblocker etc. already configured | 08:04 |
Jacques_Stry | magespawn: http://wiki.ipfire.org/en/addons/cacti/start | 08:04 |
magellanic | look into ipcop maybe as well, it is an all-in-one distro for that type of thing | 08:07 |
Jacques_Stry | lol same thing about - ipfire is based on ipcop | 08:07 |
magellanic | ah :) | 08:08 |
magellanic | one thing I haven't seen in ipcop, is bandiwdth shaping tools, but maybe I haven't looked enough | 08:08 |
Jacques_Stry | ipfire you can but you have to do it via QOS rules | 08:09 |
magespawn | i am not too concerned about shaping, just need to monitor, to see who is using what, at the moment | 08:28 |
barrydk | magespawn: I use a clearos server for the same thing | 08:38 |
magespawn | thanks barrydk i'll take a look | 08:41 |
Padroni | clearos is pretty | 08:41 |
Padroni | I had that on one of my eeebox pc's once | 08:41 |
Padroni | oh wait | 08:41 |
Padroni | I am thinking of something else | 08:42 |
Padroni | oh wait - yes | 08:42 |
Padroni | it IS clearos, hehe | 08:42 |
Padroni | I like their site - it's pretty | 08:42 |
magespawn | barrydk: are you using the community or professional/ | 08:42 |
barrydk | community, | 08:43 |
Jacques_Stry | haven't used but yes their site is pretty *sparkles* :) | 08:43 |
magespawn | lol | 08:43 |
barrydk | It is verry stable | 08:44 |
Jacques_Stry | i'll load it up on a VM tonight and check it out | 08:44 |
barrydk | For a dum oak like me it is very user friendly to setup and it does what i want | 08:46 |
Padroni | jaaaaaak | 09:01 |
Padroni | kyk | 09:01 |
Padroni | jou | 09:01 |
Padroni | pvt | 09:01 |
Jacques_Stry | haha | 09:01 |
magespawn | thanks for the input, chat later all | 09:06 |
Kilos | wb Jacques_Stry | 10:19 |

Kilos | firewall or something | 11:35 |
Kilos | hi ThatGraemeGuy | 11:39 |
jacques_ | arnaudmez: Well I have never attempted this myself but if Evo fails you could try the ExQuilla addon for thunderbird. https://exquilla.zendesk.com/home | 11:40 |
ThatGraemeGuy | 'lo | 11:40 |
arnaudmez | thunderbird you said, i thought that blue bird was shooted months ago | 11:43 |

Kilos | like evolution | 11:44 |
arnaudmez | I know that bird carying mails bro | 11:44 |
arnaudmez | I prefer to walk on Evo | 11:44 |
Kilos | lol | 11:44 |
Kilos | me too | 11:44 |
arnaudmez | I think i've got an answer here, my mint uses Evo 3.10 and it looks like Evo-ews or Evo-mapi 3.10 doesn't fully support Exchange functions | 11:45 |
Kilos | aha | 11:45 |
jacques_ | Evo works well for me but that interface is just SIESA! to me | 11:47 |
inetpro | not only is the evo interface yuck it is even bloated as well... or was, when I used it last | 12:20 |
inetpro | the blue bird keeps flying despite a lack of development resources at Mozilla | 12:21 |
Kilos | sigh | 12:21 |
Kilos | evo is lekker | 12:21 |
Kilos | peeps say kde is bloated but that dont stop you using it | 12:22 |
inetpro | evo is a hog | 12:32 |
inetpro | kde performs top notch all the time | 12:32 |
Kilos | hee hee you havent tried it in a long time | 12:32 |

Kilos | dis als in jou hande nou | 17:33 |
Mopkop | I just got a very bright idea. I always get these Ideas when I'm supposed to be working. Why not build a site locally using Joomla or Wordpress, then wget the entire site to get the static html pages. And then just FTP the output to the server? This way you can make very fast sites using Wordpress or Joomla. | 18:05 |
Kilos | lol | 18:06 |
Mopkop | I just tried it with a Joomla site I built and it works perfectly :) | 18:06 |
Kilos | you already know the answer to that | 18:06 |
Mopkop | Kilos: No, I don't? | 18:07 |
Kilos | you are supposed to be doing a project | 18:07 |
Kilos | the answer is to build it with bzr and nikola | 18:07 |
Mopkop | O yes, back to crises intervention.... | 18:07 |
Mopkop | Yes I know for the Ubuntu sites. I just thought that this would be a good idea in general. | 18:08 |
Mopkop | Kilos: You have a website using wordpress, don't you? | 18:08 |
Kilos | it might be for another site but concentrate on your project | 18:08 |

superfly | Mopkop: my guess is that you actually have a security setting that is True where mine is False, but I can't remember the name of that setting, so I can't go and disable it in my browser. Which is why it works for me | 19:17 |
Kilos | let me go see captine | 19:18 |
Kilos | you talking about the frredom day link? | 19:19 |
Kilos | freedom | 19:19 |
superfly | Mopkop: weird, that's not right. | 19:19 |
Mopkop | superfly: Yes, this line is missing: <script src="/assets/js/all-nocdn.js"></script> | 19:19 |
Mopkop | If I add it and the all-nocdn.js file it works. | 19:20 |
superfly | Mopkop: it's not just that. you have 3 files, where I have one | 19:20 |
superfly | Mopkop: what's the output of "cat themes/ubuntuafrica/bundles" ? | 19:21 |
Mopkop | Yes, I noticed that too. It is like that in the raw Nikola code, not just in the output. Which is why I thought bzr is not getting the right code. | 19:21 |
Mopkop | Let me see... | 19:21 |
Mopkop | assets/css/all-nocdn.css=bootstrap.css,bootstrap-theme.css,rst.css,code.css,colorbox.css,theme.css,custom.css | 19:22 |
Mopkop | assets/css/all.css=rst.css,code.css,colorbox.css,theme.css,custom.css | 19:22 |
Mopkop | assets/js/all-nocdn.js=jquery.min.js,bootstrap.min.js,jquery.colorbox-min.js,theme.js | 19:22 |
Mopkop | assets/js/all.js=jquery.colorbox-min.js,theme.js | 19:22 |
superfly | Mopkop: ai. no pastie! | 19:22 |
superfly | Mopkop: that's why we have paste bins | 19:22 |
Mopkop | Sorry... | 19:22 |
superfly | OK, that's right | 19:22 |
superfly | so it looks like your CDN setting is wrong | 19:22 |
Mopkop | Where do I change it? | 19:23 |
superfly | Mopkop: ahaaaa, I think I know what the problem is | 19:23 |
Mopkop | Yes? | 19:24 |
superfly | Mopkop: sudo apt-get install python-webassets | 19:24 |
captine | Kilos, i was referring to you resetting windows password link | 19:24 |
Mopkop | I tried to pip that last night, but let me try apt-get | 19:24 |
Kilos | oh captine i did it with 14.04 | 19:24 |
superfly | Mopkop: don't pip unless you *have* to | 19:24 |
Kilos | worked kiff | 19:24 |
Mopkop | python-webassets is already the newest version | 19:25 |
Mopkop | Let met try to reinstall | 19:25 |
Mopkop | Nope, still the same problem :( | 19:27 |
superfly | Mopkop: last line of defense, find the "USE_BUNDLES" setting in conf.py, uncomment it and set it to True (with a capital T) | 19:27 |
Mopkop | Ok... | 19:28 |
superfly | in my version of Nikola, it defaults to True | 19:28 |
superfly | it might have changed | 19:28 |
superfly | Mopkop: oh, do you have the Python 2 or 3 version of Nikola running? | 19:28 |
superfly | try installing python3-webassets | 19:29 |
Mopkop | superfly: not sure. I use that pyenv thing. | 19:29 |
Mopkop | Maaz nikola | 19:29 |
Maaz | http://bin.snyman.info/npcn4 | 19:29 |
captine | weird. Skype on Linux works at home, but didnt connect at work... thought skype got thru any firewall... lol. esp considering it works on Windows at the office. | 19:29 |
superfly | pyenv or virtualenv? | 19:29 |
inetpro | $ python --version | 19:29 |
inetpro | Python 2.7.6 | 19:29 |
captine | Kilos, and which Windows version? xp, 7, 8? | 19:29 |
Kilos | 7 | 19:30 |
Mopkop | pyenv | 19:30 |
Mopkop | Python 2.7.6 | 19:30 |
superfly | inetpro: negatory | 19:30 |
superfly | inetpro: Nikola comes in both 2 and 3 flavours, just running that command does not tell you which version of Python Nikola is using | 19:30 |
inetpro | superfly: I don't have Python 3 installed | 19:32 |
inetpro | just saying mine workd with Python 2.7.6 | 19:32 |
inetpro | works as well | 19:32 |
Mopkop | This is the code in base.tmpl | 19:34 |
Mopkop | http://bin.snyman.info/gczsk | 19:34 |
smile | bye :) | 19:35 |
smile | good night! :D | 19:35 |
Kilos | night smile | 19:35 |
Mopkop | Night Night smile! | 19:35 |
Kilos | sleep tight | 19:35 |
superfly | Mopkop: that's right | 19:38 |
Kilos | superfly how come i saw your klipper thing and didnt have to go to the link? | 19:39 |
superfly | Kilos: because you don't remember clicking on the link | 19:39 |
Mopkop | Hmm, then it must be a compile error in Nikola | 19:39 |
Kilos | oh | 19:39 |
Mopkop | Let' see... | 19:40 |
inetpro | Mopkop, superfly: I know what it is | 19:41 |
Mopkop | Yes? | 19:41 |
superfly | inetpro: wat is dit? | 19:41 |
inetpro | I updated my pyenv and plugins/pyenv-virtualenv/ | 19:41 |
inetpro | now also getting the same problem | 19:42 |
Mopkop | Ah. | 19:42 |
inetpro | did a 'git pull' on each of them | 19:42 |
inetpro | not sure which one breaks it | 19:42 |
superfly | nou ja, you want to use some dudes untested piece of code | 19:43 |
Kilos | lol | 19:43 |
superfly | You see why I say, "just stick with virtualenv"? | 19:43 |
inetpro | Kilos: where's the sjambok? | 19:44 |
inetpro | and where's stickyboy? | 19:44 |
Kilos | hahaha | 19:45 |
Kilos | he has gone to the states for 2 weeks i think | 19:45 |
Mopkop | So I just pip virtualenv? | 19:45 |
superfly | no, sudo apt-get install virtualenv | 19:45 |
Kilos | remind me to rev him when he gets back | 19:45 |
superfly | then "virtualenv --system-site-packages ~/virtualenv" | 19:46 |
superfly | then "~/virtualenv/bin/pip install nikola" | 19:46 |
Mopkop | E: Unable to locate package virtualenv | 19:46 |
Mopkop | Do I need a ppa? | 19:46 |
superfly | no, sudo apt-get install python-virtualenv | 19:46 |
superfly | my mistake, sorry, trying to do 3 things at once here | 19:46 |
Mopkop | Oh, I already have it. Lol | 19:47 |
Jacques_StrY | night all | 19:50 |
Mopkop | Night Jacques_StrY! | 19:50 |
Mopkop | So how do I use virtualenv? | 19:51 |
superfly | [21:46:16] <superfly> then "virtualenv --system-site-packages ~/virtualenv" | 19:51 |
superfly | [21:46:30] <superfly> then "~/virtualenv/bin/pip install nikola" | 19:51 |
Mopkop | and then nikola will work? So I don't need to activate anyting? | 19:52 |
Mopkop | But now I get Nikola version 6.2.1 | 19:52 |
superfly | ~/virtualenv/bin/pip install --upgrade nikola | 19:53 |
Mopkop | Upgrading.... | 19:55 |
inetpro | hmm... | 19:59 |
* inetpro deleted ~/.pyenv/versions/Nikola/ and started a fresh pyenv virtualenv Nikola | 20:00 | |
inetpro | I see the image now | 20:00 |
inetpro | so I'm not convinced any more... maybe I just missed something else | 20:01 |
inetpro | following my instructions at https://trello.com/c/hRfmh5Kd works fine | 20:02 |
Mopkop | Now I get a bunch of errors when I build :( | 20:02 |
inetpro | but superfly I hear what you say about trusting other people's code | 20:02 |
Mopkop | inetpro: I tried following it to the letter, but I get errors when I try to pip install webassets | 20:03 |
inetpro | Mopkop: what errors? | 20:03 |
inetpro | pastebin it | 20:04 |
inetpro | I might have left out another dependancy | 20:04 |
Mopkop | O wait sudo.... | 20:04 |
Mopkop | :( | 20:05 |
inetpro | uh? | 20:05 |
Mopkop | A lot of these: warning: no previously-included files matching 'out.css' found under directory 'examples' | 20:06 |
superfly | Mopkop: no! don't sudo pip! | 20:06 |
Mopkop | Oops... | 20:06 |
superfly | sudo pip forces pip to install external packages into your system python, where your package manager has no idea what's going on | 20:07 |
superfly | sudo pip is bad | 20:07 |
superfly | you need to use the pip from inside your virtualenv | 20:07 |
Mopkop | Ah, maybe that's how I broke it in the first place.... | 20:07 |
superfly | and in this case you don't even need to do that | 20:07 |
inetpro | ai! | 20:07 |
superfly | because you already installed webassets via your package manager | 20:07 |
superfly | ~/virtualenv/bin/pip | 20:08 |
superfly | no sudo | 20:08 |
Mopkop | Requirement already up-to-date | 20:10 |
Mopkop | Does virtualenv also have an activate command like pyenv? | 20:10 |
superfly | pyenv is just a (bad) wrapper around virtualenv | 20:15 |
Mopkop | But I don't get how to run nikola from virtualenv? | 20:16 |
superfly | ~/virtualenv/bin/nikola | 20:18 |
Mopkop | ah, was looking at that... | 20:19 |
Mopkop | How do you set an alias again? | 20:19 |
superfly | Python? ~/virtualenv/bin/python | 20:19 |
superfly | ln -s <source> <target> | 20:19 |
Mopkop | Yay it works now! | 20:20 |
Mopkop | Thank you superfly and inetpro. I know you are very busy. | 20:21 |
Mopkop | Ok good night all. And thank you for all the help! | 20:28 |
kulelu88 | you don't need virtualenv anymore with docker | 20:32 |
inetpro | kulelu88: maybe you need to help us with docker a bit | 20:34 |
inetpro | but not now | 20:34 |
superfly | kulelu88: with something small like nikola for building a site, docker is overkill | 20:37 |
kulelu88 | no problem inetpro . I am working on a docker-workflow. I am so far setup with ubuntu + python. Next I'm building basic onion layers like django, flask, etc. | 20:38 |
kulelu88 | superfly: true, but Docker keeps the base system clean. Having many extra libs on your base install is unnecessary | 20:38 |
inetpro | superfly: but docker is supposed to simplify things | 20:38 |
superfly | inetpro: when you're running servers, sure | 20:39 |
superfly | kulelu88: two packages is hardly "many extra" | 20:39 |
kulelu88 | superfly: are there any ubuntu-level libs required? | 20:40 |
superfly | kulelu88: for nikola? only python-virtualenv and python-webassets - the rest goes into the virtualenv | 20:41 |
kulelu88 | so nothing below? Like a C package, etc. | 20:41 |
superfly | no | 20:41 |
superfly | at least, not as far as I know. | 20:42 |
kulelu88 | yeah then docker isn't necessary | 20:42 |
kulelu88 | although still useful if many of you are using Nikola for the same site | 20:42 |
superfly | yeah, I don't do the "C-extensions in your virtualenv" thing | 20:42 |
inetpro | ideally this pyenv thingamajig should be packaged and easier to use for newbies | 20:42 |
kulelu88 | superfly: I don't think virtualenv allows for that | 20:43 |
superfly | inetpro: from my perspective, pyenv only makes things more complicated | 20:43 |
kulelu88 | it only isolates py stuff | 20:43 |
superfly | kulelu88: it does, as long as you have the build tools available | 20:43 |
superfly | kulelu88: apparently you can pip install mod_wsgi | 20:44 |
superfly | kulelu88: it just puts it all in your virtualenv instead of in your system | 20:44 |
superfly | anyway, bed time for me | 20:44 |
superfly | got all my AngularJS tests passing | 20:45 |
inetpro | superfly: true, it does more than what we really need | 20:45 |
superfly | \o/ | 20:45 |
kulelu88 | wow, I didn't know this | 20:45 |
kulelu88 | tc superfly | 20:45 |
superfly | night all! have fun storming the castle! | 20:46 |
inetpro | yep, sleep is needed | 20:46 |
inetpro | good night superfly | 20:46 |
Kilos | sjoe i fell asleep | 21:26 |
Kilos | night all sleep tight | 21:26 |
